I bet recording engineers love the Rhodes:) I found a Rhodes speaker cab two years ago, empty, but w/ pedal. When I was a teen in 80' found an old red case organ, approx 3 1/2 octaves, but it had reeds w/ pick-ups. I recall gray & white revers keys sim. to my Farfisa, but it wasn't a Farfisa, unless they made reed combos. I am a Wurlitzer organ collector (have 5, oldest a 46'series 31 w/ 310 tone cab). Just found out my 310 tone cab was Don Leslie's first production rotary design-uploaded demo:)
Is that the Peterson? I have a stage 73 ('76).. no amount of eq could make my piano sound like that... You have that one toned and setup so nicely! I'm jealous!
I go from the harp into a Hughes&Kettner "Crunch Master", then to the Small Stone and back into the Peterson pre. The Crunch Master is the perfect tool for vintage keys. Absolutely fantastic :)
It looks like it's coming straight off the amp. My '71 Suitcase didn't have any line outs or an effects loop so the only way was to use the headphone out. We are having this remedied!
Out of curiosity, how are you running the Phaser on this? Are you using the out put on directly from the harp like this: Rhodes Harp > Phaser > Preamp? Or do you have some other setup? Thanks, great playing and great tone! I have a 71 as well, but my Rhodes has seen more of the world...and it shows. :)
thanks for the post.. i have a suitcase as well and have been trying to figure out how to record it in stereo without micing it.. it sounds amazing through headphones coming form the stereo headphone jack.. did you come out of that as well, or is it out of the pre amp outputs? yours sounds great man, nice playing too.. i'm using a different phaser pedal and it really loses its volume and low end when its on..yours seemed like a smoothe transition.. any info would be appreciated!
Is this a self-restoration, or did you have somebody else do it? Because this Rhodes, as well as the stage in your other video are absolutely beautiful, cosmetic and tone-wise.
@@life-is-inspiring3953 They all sound good, but I like the 70's version with the orange logo best. But for Rhodes you should go for the Nano version because the impedance matches much better ;)
@@kaufmann6988 Thanks for your info ! BTW have you ever tried any other preamp ? I've just ordered The RetroFlyer ( from Avion Studio ) which is more affordable and hopefully will do the job.
What kind of piano playing is this? My min instrument is the guitar, but I'm learning some keys and love the sound of the fender rhodes. Where should I head to learn some of the basic techniques of this kind of stuff? Because it is definitely different than classical piano.
+Phil Kopsaftis I'm kinda like you right now, been playing guitar for a good 5 years now I think, but god DAMN, lately I've been completely in love with the Fender Rhodes sound. The stuff they play on Rhodes is very heavily influenced by jazzy stuff, I think. In pop music, Rhodes mainly is mainly regular poppy chords as heard in 70s pop rock or more soul/jazz inflicted, as heard in genres like quiet storm, classic soul/R&B and ballads. That's my take on it, at least... Your comment was 4 months ago, did you do anything with your aspirations?
+UrAnus1231 Got a keyboard with a pretty decent Rhodes sound and have been using the hell out of it. m.soundcloud.com/philkmusic/gabria mostly demos for a few games I'm working on, but I use the Rhodes sound on just about everything in some way.
+Phil Kopsaftis Hahaha respect man, that sounds like something I'd do. The track sounds pretty good, what keyboard do you have? I've been drooling over the Nord Electro series, but heaven knows stuff like that's too expensive for me. You could almost buy a real Rhodes for that kind of money.
The Small Stone I have (1977 Version II) seems to suck the tone right out of my Wurlitzer. I haven't tried it on the Rhodes yet because the electronics are in the shop!
can you please explain how you have your effects hooked up? I have an old rhodes as well without the input jack on the front. Are you just running an rca from the rhodes to a 1/4" to the effects? then back out to the pre-amp rca? nice playing thanks dustin
Hi. Yes, the effects are connected directly from the RCA on the harp and back again to the pre-amp in the piano. Not all effects are "compatible" with the impedance of the RCA output. The SmallStone phaser is not, so i have added a tube pre-amp right after the phaser, which evens out this problem. You could also install a Vintage Vibe pre-amp in the piano. It has many features that are missing in the old ones: www.vintagevibe.com/collections/best-sellers/products/stereo-vibe-fender-rhodes-pre-amp?variant=899474675
Hey Kaufmann... OK.
Hey kaufmann6988, Didn't you used to have another video of you playing the Rhodes (in addition to this one; I think you walked into the room and showed your mic setup before starting to play)? I used to listen to it as mood music all the time but when the PC that I had it bookmarked on crashed, I lost the link...Love your playing; PLEASE re-post the other one if you still have it.
Just picked up the same 1971 Fender rhodes sutecase 5 days ago. Love it!!!
Wow great. Make a video and send me the link 😀
I got the same Rhodes. Such an amazing instrument i wouldn't trade it for the world.
Those early 70's true Fender/Rhodes! They had worked out the 60's issues and not yet compromised in the construction. So, so sweet.
The tone is to die for. Perfect!
Thx :)
The Rhodes is such a heavenly sounding instrument.
Absolutely agreed
I just got my first Rhodes. I love it. A suitcase without the speaker enclosure. Still sounds beautiful.
my father played them we had 2! I love tis more now!,My Daddy lives with me and retired, I want him to have a Fender Rhodes Again!
Beautiful and peaceful. You should make a relaxation/chill album about 100 hours long.
Thank you :)
Beautiful playing!
I love the sound of Small Stone with a Rhodes.
the pre on that Rhodes is perfect
:)
Wow, the stereo through my headphones is amazing !
It sounds so beautiful, especially with the phaser.
What a beautiful sounding instrument. Nothing comes close.
Great sounding Rhodes, and you have a wonderful touch.
that sound is friggin awesome.... I dont even play and I want one now!
rhodes + smallstone = it only remains BEAUTY
El fender rhodes tiene un sonido exquisito, un sonido celestial. Cheers from cartagena colombia (south america)
Beautiful sound bro. My personal 2 favorites too auto-pan and phaser
Damn could listen to this all day! Once you hit that phaser it was goosebump city!!!!
Great sound and great playing!!!

the sound of the Late Great Richard Tee
God Bless you Richard,
Check out Stuff's track "My Sweetness" for Tee's great phased rhodes sound
Truly amazing instrument and nice playing. Thanks for sharing!
listen with headphones on. This Is why many people chose the suitcase over the stage.
Sounds great! They made some good stuff in my childhood
Fender Rhodes piano.. I love it.
I get teary just by listening the sounds.
It sounds heavenly.
Very nice to see and hear the real thing
I will find one at a reasonable price yet!! I love this piano!
Beautiful!
Gorgeous tone.
Great playing, very dynamic...hauntingly beautiful tones!! Nothing like the real thing.
@panulli4 Thank you ! No mikes. I am using the stereo line out. The only effect, besides the Small Stone Phaser, is a little bit of reverb.
Beautiful
very nice!!!
Una joya viviente,,,precioso ,,,,, sweet sound sweet.....Wonderfull
awsome, but the "pan" make me crazy
Kevin Hirschfeld Heck yeah man!
Yes!
I was upset when this video ended...

kaufmann6988 hi what did you use for reverb?
That sounds great.
your playing is fantastic. teach me your ways!!
feel like im having a wonderful dream
Make some more videos of you playing the Rhodes... Thank you.
Its clear that you pull back with all those screaming beasts in the house and surround yourself with something pleasing... :D
heck yeah this is the best sound
I must say, that phaser does a pretty good emulation of the Dyno-My-Piano Tri Stereo Chorus unit.
Super 🎶
Ripping it! Nice work.

Dreamy and Punchy.

Just look at the man's Moog tattoo! Hah nice! kaufmann6988

fantastic
Can you tell me what your signal path is here? Sounds great.
Yeah. Rhodes harp - Hughes&Kettner Crunch Master pre-amp - Smallstone Phaser - Rhodes pre-amp and then Suitcase output to Cubase with reverb 😀
Thank you 😀
@@kaufmann6988 Hi, I've seen different versions of Smallstone Phaser; which one would you recommend? BTW great sound !

Stereo tremolo makes me nauseous, but other than that, I can't get enough of the rhodes sound!
Good tone!!

YES

you can get them modded so they don't
nice sound. how are you getting that top end distortion? sounds good
