- This piano lovingly named "Lucy" is Donald Fagen's 1973 Fender Suitcase 88. We fully restored this piano from top to bottom, action, electronics & Voicing and continue to service these instruments keeping them tip top :)
Scott Coulter of Dirk Quinn band & Get Happy on Deacon blues:

This has gotta be the best feeling ever. Not only are you playing a Rhodes, but Donald Fagen’s very own Rhodes he recorded some of the most legendary songs of all time on. How lucky are you, I’d KILL to be in your position right now.
Love that sound! Nothing today can copy that sound! Used to have a Rhodes, smaller one and miss it! Was my first elec. piano and saw me delve into SD, Crusaders, Joe Sample and Bob James. Only drawback was its weight!
In my opinion-the hot rod of pianos. A mechanical masterpeice of an instrument, from dreamy to nasty.
Very similar to the perfect woman!!!!
That Rhodes sounds like magic!
Tasty cover , whenever I feel like crap your version of Deacon Blues makes all my stess disappear , hard to explain like magic keyboard . Luv the Rhodes and wish you well this New Year Thanks , Retrolinear Audio
+super63strat Thanks! Scott Coulter's feel is superb.
We hope to have him do a few more demo's in the future :)
Thanks for the kind words!
Beautifully played! Absolutely gorgeous sound.
I actually got chills listening to this. Your musical and technical skills are a gift from God.
So . . . let me get this straight: God hands out gifts? You mean that I don't have to practice or do anything stupid like that-I can just wait for God to hand me out the gift to play like this guy? Well, where the fuck do I sign up? Why am I wasting my time talking to you, anyway? Surely God has some signup line somewhere. If I slip the due at the head of the line a 20, will he send me up faster than everyone else? How does this got thing work, anyway? All I have to do is PRAY? Well, goddamnit, let's go! No, wait . . .

what comes from inside......God makes u stir it w/ creativity
I love the old Fender Rhodes… I wish I had a Suitcase 88… Tasty cover indeed… Cant wait to see more… ☮🔥
we hauled a Stage 73 around along with a B-3 and 122 for several years on the road. The 73 was heavy enough as it was...lol.
I love Lucy! That's the sound most of us are after with are Vst's and digital pianos. The Rhodes solo in Steely Dan's live version of black cow is a great example of how it sound with the band.
The Black cow Rhodes is a early '71 Raymac tined Rhodes played by Victor Feldman.
Hence why I said "Live" version.
The sweet sounds of Rhodes. Beautiful
Kick-ass restoration AND playing!
It's nice to hear a fresh approach to this rich tune with just the Fender-Rhodes.
Deacon Blues was a great choice!
Beautiful, masterful playing.
This is just the stuff of the legend.
GORGEOUS sound ... Mighty work!
Absolutely amazing!!!
Absolutely beautiful. Lucy and your playing.
I have sat in concerts and watched Donald lead the band from behind so many times with this classic instrument. Using melody, perfect timing and voice to support whoever else was being featured in a given song.
Someday people will see Lucy in the Smithsonian.
But for now, pull out all the stops and see Donald play live.
The tastiest piano track of this on the planet.....nice!
Excelente Músico y reparador de Rhodes. "Lucy is very good"
Wow !! Sooooooooooo Addictive .... really relaxing and enjoyable
I reaped the benefit of your hard work, at a couple of shows in 2013. Thanks for keeping the boys sounding great!
This blows my mind, awesome
great sound! great playing!
Beautiful. Thanks.
even with just $35 Sony earbuds and Boom audio on my laptop, this Rhodes sounds amazing. Great playing, btw. Thanks for posting.
: )
For you Michael Gifford. My all time favorite song, Steely Dan's Deacon Blues, with Retro Linear rebuilt Don Fagen's suitcase Fender Rhodes playing the piano part of Deacon Blues. You'll dig it man.
I dont know much about instruments but every-time I hear the sound from a Rhoads I think about how many songs Donald Fagan wrote using the Rhoads.
The sound is so lush and full, You guys did a great job!
Outstanding!!
super nice playing, couldn't help singing the lyrics to this song and my kids were giving me the look of death. lol. i play guitar but always wanted to play piano and keys
It only takes one day to start playing keys, whereas it takes an entire lifetime to *never* play the keys ;-)
Sweet instrument and beautiful rendition. Congrats!
I saw the other video that explains what you did to refurbish this instrument. Very interesting. GREAT version of the song!
Very entertaining vid , sounds awesome !
Awesome
I love this!
Exactly at 4:20 shit gets real!
Wow!!!
My first rig, Paid big bucks in the seventies - A wonderful instrument. Hard to keep tuned but what a sound... Got my logic electric just the way I like it now... Great job... plus great job on the keys... Got a signed AJA album from Fagen (red pressing) a prized possession
wonderful performance! I think it is good camera angle because I can see the rhodes’ whole figure.
Love this!
Thank you for the kind words!!!
Space Travel right there!
SOUNDS LIKE OLD TIMES....REAL NICE ..I GAVE IT A LIKE...
When did Donald start using this one, and on what albums did they use the famous "E" Rhodes on? Do you know? Excellent video, by the way.
sounds so good. spooky good. i want a real rhodes now. but i don't want to move it. Does retrolinear sell roadies too?
Eargasm.
