Vagrant - Oooo no idea. I play the Mobile version that released this year globally. It’s still pretty popular and even the PC version is constantly updated. Similar to runescape
Haha broo, the shot you made about "has dofus changed for better or worse" there was also my comment on it! 💀💀💀 (my name is dragonfable). I was like 18?? That I made that comment. I had the same experience of the love from this game cuz I played FF tactics and many fans had that too with the same experience I would say back than as a community and having fun cuz as kid you had no worries, it was an amazing experience that you was forced to play as a team. That thing is really unique and important to be as a kid unlike ur basic rpg games where you just can blitz through the monsters In 2.0 to be honest, it was for the better cuz back then it was *TOO hard* to grind outside the beginning town of ankama. Astrub was hell with the krakrots that RIP-off ur ap and it was just hell overall Before 2.0 it was just pure nostalgia and people being mad... but truth it was just fking hard to surpass going on a real adventure in the first place and that comes from someone who played it in those old school days. In between later period of 2.0 is was very stable with many people can make kamas on profession and doing kolo. I remember having a great argument in the forum of pvp vs pvm players. Hahaha both sides jealous on how hard or easy it is to get money while both were pretty balanced but that's always debatable haha. But after the profession rework? Lol everything was ruined like.. uugh would be too much long to explain. Anway I come back this year and I still see it can be very hard for an new player to blend in, you are forced to give real money to achieve stable gears, weapons ect. Which they would upgrade the graphics and overall experience for the economy but oh well it's still slowly improving when I saw the market so oh well.. I can remember that there was a commercial on tv (in the netherlands which was supuuuper unique to see cuz anime was still such a niche yet loved, ooh mann great time I rushed right to my pc to make an account 😭) I'm still up to date what ankama is doing and they still trying to publish season 4 of the wakfu movie anime cuz they can declined by netflix of low believes that it wouldnt catch much money but they still trying anyhow to accomplish it Dofus/wakfu is truly one of the best written fantasy story of the fantasy genre & french is such a big "weeb" country that supports and love anime in general. We have even now the famous manga/anime named radiant which also come from anakama studio Now they are making an new game named waven which is an mix between wakfu & krossmaga. There is already an alpha/beta in french and for english translated will come hopefully this year. Now that dofus merched with steam, now surprisingly more players has come so that's a very good thing. It's now pretty stable Dofus is really one that has an special place on my heart and invested many hours in my childhood. Great times
This game was my life when I was a kid. Horrible childhood, but this was my escape. I'll never forget how the people I've met there made me feel like I found my place in the world. It may sound sad but it was some of the most enjoyable moments of my life.
God I totally get you. All my friends were from here. Now I okay and I get an instant wave of nostalgia and sadness. I almost burst into tears because nothing will ever be like it was
@@VagrantVideos I don't get why the Eliatrope Dofus are treated like mere items in the Show. The Leaders will still all hatch, right? Wakfu's early days with crazy political and economical drama was absolutely awesome. I remember sitting in town hall meetings discussing how we would grow our economy and who would do what, no matter what level you were. It felt like you were part of a growing, living world. Then Ankama scrapped ALL of that over night. So fucking weird.
Same, I played in beta. Had a friend and we won an election in amakna from nowhere. Played it a little bit more after release, had one of the biggest guilds on Remington. Wakfu just got worse, and the politics part of the game had so much potential. I also remember the whole auction to get a havenworld (like a private plot of land for your guild) and we unexpectedly got the backing of a sponsor, who was sponsoring our enemy guild. Just fun machinations.
not on a Heroic server, we're not :P but yea. I was looking at the opening montage and feeling nostalgia as if it's a physical place where I spent my middle school years.
I'm a dual citizen who grew up in France, really interesting to see the point of view of someone outside of France about this game. It was a huge part of my childhood and I tend to jump back on every now and then with some friends to keep in touch being in a foreign country now, and also to go down memory lane ha.. really enjoyed your video, hope you find some joy playing this again.
they are still riddled with people asking you to pay up if you want to do basically any high level dung, so not much difference from the multi server as there is no "community feeling" left and this is coming from a player who started since 2005 till 2021 and have done everything there is to do in this game and in different servers.
@@AKRXI they are riddled with ppl proposing a service, you can totally do it without them by playing the game with friends. Being boosted isn't the normal way to play
I’ve actively played Dofus for over 10 years, and am still active to this day xP Population is an issue on most servers, but there are still some that are very crowded at all times, like the mono-account server ilyzaelle
@@VagrantVideos Mono Account means just that, You can only play with 1 account, 1 character at a time. So they actually fixed the multi accounts issue and are forcing players to play together on that server
so much nostalgia, nothing like racing rambo for the first 200, then the guilds... miss you blank & revolution. great times of my childhood that I so heavily wish could be what it once was.
All of the areas are not locked. you have a handful of zones you can utilize as a free player and you can hit cap as a free player as well. (200) however the difference between a free player and a subbed player is the subbed player has a vastly larger area to explore and level in as well as a faster leveling experience.
The free zone its pretty expanded nowadays. Incarnam and Astrub now have a LOT of missions. Astrub now includes more monsters, the gobballs, the beach, and a few new others, you ca basically play like 60 levels of it without being limited. pretty much a month or so of gameplay, you can even get a dofus out of it. THEN if you really want more content you just drop 5 bucks to get a whole month of 20 times more map and dungeons. Its pretty awesome, they honestly have built up the game pretty good now, and is more welcoming for new players, now they just need a good marketing campaign.

It's simple: They fail hard at Marketing Decisions. Even now, after the giant Kickstarter that funded more than a Season at once, they still barely do things in English. They apparently don't know the world is more then just their own, french-speaking Nation... How dumb... Also, Dofus is not available on Steam. Wakfu is, even for Free (with many DLC''s) but the funny thing is: ITS NOT PLAYABLE! If you don't have an Ankama Account youre screwed, and making one is moreo r less impossible. I tried and failed.
I played Dofus between 2008 and probably 2014. What was so special about it to me was the several nationality-based servers. I'm from the Netherlands, we get used to English games, but a fully Dutch online game was very rare. It really was my favorite game to play back then. However, it fell down after things got so advanced. The game went from beginner-friendly, like Incarnam being the starter area only accessible for lvl 1 to about 20/30, to almost only caring about its lvl 200 players. I loved to play pvp headhunters from lvl 50 to 100, but that was removed after some up-date. Soon after I realized how dull it felt to train or even grind against monsters, especially after lvl 100. After lvl 100 you rarely switch sets and will only learn a new move at 200. It was the Dutch community that kept me playing, but after the servers fused that disappeared too. After years I reached lvl 200 as well, but it felt empty. Quests are mostly text bubbles to read if you want to, I've never done a profession and in the present pvp (kolo) people just yell at each other when making wrong decisions (which I've done plenty). But mostly the combat mode went from being easy to understand and still pretty easy to master to frustrating to play. You have like 50 modes now and some characters can get up to 20 action points per turn but have still only 30 seconds to think and play. I hate to admit that I'm not smart enough to play it anymore or feel the need to learn. Dofus is my #1 nostalgia game now. Back then I had to learn about it. To figure out strategies, to even get why some elements would be better to train, to understand what good gear was. It taught me to sell and buy within the entire economy, to predict people, to figure out new tactics and playstyles for underused characters. I'm so thankful for what it was and I don't like what it has become. To me Dofus is practically dead. Is still have 3 accounts with some pretty good cash and stuff on it, but also a lvl 200 hacked account and don't feel any urge to reclaim the lost goods. It was a fine experience that sadly had to come to an end.
honestly all the nostalgia of wanting to play again got to me, went back, not liking the new interface system or anything close to the old good friend for that matter, dofus touch resembles it a lot more.
Lol! For what seems like the last 5 or 7 years, I will randomly get these bouts every 1-2 years, where I'm curious to check it out & see if it's better, but no, it never is. P2P & building features atop features make it kinda unrecognizeable/ unhomey to me now. And after a week or so of playing, I realize it'll never be the same and leave Dofus. Retro is nice and calm for the most part, but I really like my spell shortcuts & that's not in Retro.
Dofus is a true gem, my favorite MMO ever - so much so that it left me with a gaming itch for more games like it that I just can't scratch because they don't exist. It's a shame to see it losing popularity outside of France. They actually try pretty hard to keep it alive with the temporis servers (temporary servers that experiment with new mechanics and then are deleted after a few months, similar to Path of Exile's leagues). Logging into the game servers after they release a new Temporis is nearly impossible due to huge queues and overcrowded servers. Though one of the reasons I'm not too excited about playing dofus nowadays is that there aren't that many English-speaking players, and many French kick you from the party when you don't speak their language @___@ It wouldn't say they should specifically target the US market, but rather try to attract the international community in general, which usually speaks English. Dofus has a lot of potential and definitely caters to a very loyal niche of players. It was a HUGE hit here in Brazil back in the early 2000's, we even had our own servers.
Just those who played dofus at the very beginning, where there was not even a client to play with, using a browser having a hard time trying to update adobe flash know whats this map 0:31 represents. There was not even monsters man! It brings me great memories
I'm here from the show Wakfu, and lemme tell you how bad I want to be in France right now. Where there are more people who know about this franchise. It's so wonderful and there is so much detail a depth into the lore. I wish I could be more open to the material it makes. But sadly you really can't find much of it here in the US. I cant wait till I can fly over so I could maybe learn more about the fantastic world of Dofus and Wakfu.
I'm a French guy, and i use to play a lot on Dofus in the past. All I can say is that ankama is developing a 3.0 version of the game on Unity and on the Dofus forum, one of the directors of ankama say that Dofus is enough alive so they can develop huge project like 3.0
I know i'm late but to clarify, there will be 2 versions : a Unity port which will keep the game as is, just some performance and slight visual upgrades, and a complete different project which is dofus 3.0, they have launched a teaser for it a while back but it looked very animalcrossing-like so people hated it, now they are fully focusing on the Unity port project set to launch in 2023, the 3.0 project however is on hold
Never played Dofus but even now I’m still getting ads for it. Also currently watching through several of your videos and so far they’re all really well put together.
Its the company thay doesnt pay that much atencion to other regions that are not france. Content creators are mostly french, some latin and nobody in america steams or uploads to youtube. I still think dofus is a great game but thay need to help other content creator that arent french.
Unfortunatly ankama does not support the french streamers and youtubers a lot either. I think you should try to play on ilyzaelle if you have only one character or check the website statofus to find the server which is the most active if you play as a team. You can play also on a french server, there is no big difference as most of french people know a few english words so you can play with them
I had a plan to do a dungeon series kinda like the wow guides but I could never find enough people to assist me with it. (id have to do the dungeons essentially by myself as well as gear and level all the characters id use too) all in all if the game was more mmo friendly than multi account friendly it might have been better off
I believe playing on the french-speaking servers actually helped improve my French for school, for a while there (I'm in Canada). I enjoyed all of it, even when I wasn't on english-speaking servers. And I can remember the days when 10 non-team players would pile in on every fight against any chafer (bc we didn't want to leave Incarnam & be locked out) and you'd learn everyone's diff attacks. That was incredibly & certainly felt like a community.
Ankamas biggest fail in my eyes was the transition from 1.29 to 2.0 i remember that they got rid of aggro quests which was the biggest enjoyment of most players of dofus back then. Every player had at least 1 or 2 pvp characters and invested much just to have this individual strong feeling. I had for example one of the very first water cra on my server lvl 90 grade 7 not even scrolled because it was very expensive. I remember the time you got your wings on and you were never rly safe from beeing atk. This was the best time imo and we lost that with 2.0. The game began to focus more and more on pvm and they even got rid of the close combat function. On 1.29 you could atk with your weapon as often as you had ap.
@@VagrantVideos yes you can however you have restrictions. Daggers for example can only be used 2 times so if you had 9ap in 1.29 you could atk 3 times in 2.0 only 2 times now imagine atk only once with your hammer or sword... it was disapointing for me
As a Dofus English streamer I really really appreciate this video and everything you’ve said is absolutely true ❤️ I will say though I don’t think it’s DEAD I just think the population sunk.
Even in Latin America and spain was so popular. Am from Colombia, and Colombia was the biggest comunity in spanish, also, in the the 2010´s was the most played game in this country :) . Great childhood
Recently met someone that lived in France for a number of years during his childhood, turns out we both played Dofus! I was astonished that someone else had heard of it due to no one else ever hearing of it!
Dofus is a very good game. You just need somebody to play with. I used to play this game 24/7 with my classmates - the good old times. Now, I think, it's even better. Making progress is not as slow as it used to be. I still have my account and play the game from time to time.
I’ve always wanted to play the game with someone but it is hard to find someone in RL that would want to play. I got a ton of my friends in Krosmaster though.
As a long time player, it absolutely got better with time, for sure. God is progression in retro slow. And yeah playing with friends is better, it's an mmo after all
good job vagrant. videos well edited, you’re well spoken about everything and your personal anecdotes + facts make vids a lot more relatable and interesting than just plain facts. at least dofus could make an older version of itself. waiting for nexon to catch up with MS...
@@VagrantVideos No issue man. As for recommendations for the next vid, if you don't mind, Gaia Online? It was thriving back in 2007. I know its still up and running now but man...it's o l d. i'd love to hear ur input. its more of a forum/anime-avatar maker/hangout rather than game but its got a ton of history.
What I would give to go back to the release of Solar.. the best days of my life. Starting fresh with everyone on the serving and competing to be the #1 in your class. Incomparable
Server* Similar, but the strategy aspect was so much better.. worlds were active and the game was really intriguing. Discovering the world one area after another and grinding to craft/buy new sets
I just pick up the game too. I am lvl 159 cra on the single account server. The single account server is much much more fun and better because you can't multi account so you have to team up with other players.
@@marksaetern6017 The problem with mono is EVERYONE is rushing to endgame and not even wanting to just evnjoy any of the game between end game and the start. :(
Hey! French lad here I've seen your video as an ad and it reminded me of some good times! so let's go in my opinions stuff I've played dofus since I was 7/8 ish when 2.0 came out I played because of some friends inviting me to try out this game and I absolutely loved it I became a huuge fan bought dvd's drew the characters and simply loved it, I've played since i was 14 and it was a great experience for me I think one of the main problems was the accessibility to the whole game for me ( as an 8 year old you don't have lots of money to spend on a video game) this game was really really popular here and I stil encounter people who played it. I think that a big problem was the use of bots an awfull lot of bots roaming, getting loot then getting out plus as I said before the subscriptions and economy is really really meh at once it almost was pay to win since you could just buy ogrins and get kamas(ingame money) with this then buy any item you wanted. So yeah I won't go on a rant on how I wanted to publish a magazine on dofus when I was a kid but I simply loved it I'm redownloading it at this instant and I'm writing this as it's downloading dofus retro. welp it finished gotta go play my childhood game again guys! (This was a really nice video btw). (edit I lost my account now I'm sad:/. ) edit 2 I FOUND IT this boi is happy edit 3 all servers are full I need to subscribe to get inside THIS THING was why I quitted the 1st one
I’ve been playing this game for 7 years now.. never get bored of it, I did play it more often in a PC, then Dofus Touch.. I agree that most of this new server, new version is seperating the community and thus making the economy of the game differ from one another.. I really wish they would combine Dofus touch and Dofus PC all together cause most of items, quest done and character that I’ve made back in the days are all in the PC.. but something about the journey in Dofus makes it so special and worth going back to.. even if it means starting all over again.. now I’ve been seeing more player in Dofus Touch. I’ve been adapting all the tricks in Dofus PC to Dofus Touch ni since it was very similar.. I also get my cousin and friends to play along.. since it’s accessible using a fone, I’m sure more and more people will play Dofus Touch in the mere future
I think 2.0 was the beginning of the downward spiral for the game for sure. As someone who used to play the game a lot I feel like I could write a book on all the problems that the game had which led to the fall in players. Botting, kamas merchants, the insane grind on high character and profesison levels etc. Personally what did me in was that a lot of the quests and content in Dofus in general MUST be done in groups because the fights are too difficult to solo, even many quests have absurd requirements to complete like having 5 other people who are on the exact same quest be in the exact same location to stand on tiles or something. As the game population dwindled, finding groups to complete said content became more and more difficult so many dedicated players resorted to playing multiple characters simultaneously not out of desire but just out of neccesity. I have memories of spending literal WEEKS to find a group who was willing and able to complete a certain quest/dungeon/objective, it was just too much. It's a shame because I think Dofus always had one of the better MMORPG communities out there.
The game is so popular in french communities that one of the most respected youtuber and player, Volcasaurus, is making his videos in french, and it isn't his main langage. I don't even know where he is from, I have seen german MP on his streams, but he mostly speaks french, some old vids are in english.
I'll absolutely never understand why there wasn't a dungeon finder that spanned throughout all servers sorta like WoW, it would have kept me n my friend's playing since we were only a group of two and the game gets really hard later on
I played it a lot with my friends back in the day, but recently I've been looking to play the game again. The problem now is that the game itself need people to help each other out, dungeons and certain missions require 2-4 or sometimes even 8 players. And I don't have anyone irl or online that plays the game anymore, so I end up paying kamas to players in the community chat just so they would come and help me finish it. It's super tiring.
Yo. I've been looking for a game for years that also had advertisements on tv and you seem like the right person to go to. The game was an online mmo browser game like dofus when it first started. The premise of the game was this; the world was at peace and the people of the lands traveled from place to place using these networks of streams of what I believe what magic. They covered the world like crossroads and if you wanted to go travel beyond your place, you had to take these crossroads. One day the crossroads suddenly became infested with monsters and they were no longer safe to use for travel. All of this was related to two items going missing; one was a book and I can't remember what the other one was. Maybe a staff or sword. Anyway, you had to get these 2 vital items in order to "beat" the game and restore order to the crossroads. Five things I remember really well about the game was the fact that in mere days of the game launching, 2 players had already beat it with astonishing speed. They even got a mention on the game's website. The second thing was the tv advertisement. It went omething like this. A boy was kicking a ball arounf and hit it too hard and it ended up in the crossroad. He went in after it not knowing that they had become infected with monsters at this point. The monsters than began to close in on him but luckily, there was an old man who quickly rushed in and brought both themselves back before anything could happen. The third was the fighting mechanics of the game. You had to craft blueprints that contained spells that your character would unleash on the monsters as you travelled through the crossroads. It was turn based and it only proceeded when you chose a spell to cast. Monsters had weaknesses and strengths against the spelltypes, so you needed to craft/buy many different blueprints. The monsters were different depending on what part of the world you were in. The monsters would all attack in a single wave like attack, each hitting you and your spells hutting all of them until one of you died. The monsters were on either side beyong your screen, so you could press the corresponding arrows to look left or right and seebwhat monsters you were facing and know the best spell to use. The fourth was offerings you could make to gods. When you first started the game, you were fiven the option to choose a pet. They were a turtle, a fox, an owl and a cat. They would each give you unique stats boosts. In an specific part of the world, there was a place of offering for these godlike beings that represented the different pets in the game and whichever god got the most offering the previous day from the player base, would grant an additonal stat boost to its respective pet. The fifth was instead of using the crossroads, you could pay for afatser trip using a hotair balloon that would take you to other stations in the eorld. I talk about it like it's multiplayer but it really didn't have much multiplayer functions. You could see and chat to other players on the map but you couldn't party up with them and fight monsters. You went in solo and hoped that whoever tagged along didn't die along the way. Quite a lot to consume but I'd appreciate any feedback rven if it's a no.
Sounds like a different number of games, Zomg!, hell even Adventure Quest. The pet thing though hmm, that’s a stand out. Honestly that sounds like a really old mmorpg that was anime ish called Fairy online
Congratulations. The algoritham has been played into your favor. This video is merely the publicity that morphs the game into an active game. You gain following from a game you revive. Truly an interesting take on youtube success.
I still get nostalgic when I played this game about 10+ year ago. I have tried it several times later but it's serious time killer. I have managed to get to 100 level max back then in 2015. Later I couldn't find areas where to farm easily (I died often) and I got no more quests so I was lost. Most of the players are French so I dont understand a single word on chat in on international. When I first time played Dofus, it was on Rushu. Even non-sub areas were filled with people. Everyone used to camp Crackrock, when they spawned everyone rushed to get that fight (they were probably named different back then). Also what keeps me from no playing again is monthly paying subscription like in WoW. I dont want to spend that much money just for playing.
At least it’s only 5 bucks a month, that is cheap as heck when compared to other games on the market but I seriously can’t blame you. As an English speaker myself I could NEVER find anyone in game, you always have to go online to seek English players and then link up
@@VagrantVideos Back then I used to meet even people from my country which was rare. Maybe not that rare but once I even made a friend ingame with a guy from same city in the Czech republic. Also it is one of the games I used to play with my brother. He played Dofus with other friends. Dungeons were fun in group of people I knew. Nowadays those 5 bucks wouldn't be a problem I guess but I still resent such idea to pay monthly for games. It makes me to play them everyday just because I dont want to waste that playtime.
Miss dofus. The subscription, small as it is, is what keeps me from playing it again. Wouldnt mind throwing a few bucks here and there for some cosmetics but a constant flow of money that easily turns into hundreds is just not something I want to do.
I absolutely LOVED this game! Used to play all the time. I distinctly remember trying to chat to other players and having to use google translate to get what they were saying (barely anyone spoke english haha). Honestly, only stopped playing because I was on a free account, and after a while reached a point where I couldn't really move forward without paying. Didn't have money for a paid account. Still, great memories 😀
Can I just say I LOVE comments like this? You and my community are the reason I make videos man. Thanks for watching and I really appreciate the comment, I hope if you became a subscriber I entertained you in some way!
There was a time where the latin and hispanic community of Dofus was huge. Around 2012-2016 there was a lot of RUclips content being made (in spanish of course) and that made the spanish speaking part of the game feel much more united. I remember those days with joy. Some great youtubers of that time were Elvinsito, Pabluku, Melocotona, El Rincón De Cejotas, Skade, Tactick Victor, etc. Check them out some of their videos are still up. Nowadays the hispanic community is not even close to what it used to be back in the day, but there is still some movement and people play the game. Greetings from Argentina. :)
Dofus was and still is a great game. The people you meet on there were amazing. Most people I met were so friendly, I started my own channel trying to climb my way to the top.
The biggest problem I ever had with them was that the tried too many avenues at once. If they just stuck with Dofus and Dofus 2.0 then I'm sure it would have been an extreme hit. But they tried to branch out too much in my opinion and in the end shot themselves in the foot. The game was fantastic back in the day and now the game is just a shadow of it's former self.
I don't think it's dead, it's just not very internationally friendly. If I knew french I'd get back into it for sure, since I absolutely love the art direction. From the comments though, I might give it a shot since apparently the mono-acc servers are still alive, hell yeah buddyyyyyy
I played it back in 2005-2009 on and off - and then came back it must've been when it was with the trial island and the whole 2.0 thing going on :) As you mentioned it's mainly fun played with friends, since i always had a big impression of the language blockade, mainly french people playing not very friendly nor interactive. But hey loved the game, the music and the whole feeling to it - came here to check if any english speaking people played it- glad i found your video quality coverage!
Great video, thank you! No Dofus is definitely not dead, it's alive, and it's very exciting in term of gameplay, Ankama introduced variants which double the spells, you have to pick one spell or its variant so you can adapt or even have a more personal gameplay, vert few games offer that experience. The thing is, especially since the last 4 years, the game got major updates for very high level contents, it's way easier to get lv 200 now and so the leveling experience is a bit harsher because most of people will level up with leeching instead of making friends and grouping up to fight like before. So you can level up quickly, but you won't be able to have the ig money to buy your high level stuff...
@@VagrantVideos Yeah there's a real business with multi-accounts teams, with farm guilds offering power leveling (which A LOT of people abuse as the real content is HL), just like WoW it must still be very exciting to discover for a newbie, but without friends or a solid guild, it might become discouraging... I'm playing on dual-account but my guild is mostly single-acc, so the mutual help is very present
Im from dominican republic, and played from the 1.29 to the 2.3 i think. The game is not dead, but its dying. Back in my days there was 7 servers for the hispanic community, but after a few years, due to the lack of playersz they had to fuse all of them into only 2 servers, wich are Atcham and Rubilax. Currently, sadly, the population is still decreasing and they are considering in make just 1 server for the hispanic community.
The Single-Account server of Ilyzaelle is really active! It has the English and French community mixed, and there is so many people to play with, in any lvl!
The mono-acc server is actually alive, the market is healthy, the community is alive too, try to do the cania bandit quest there and see the competition xD
Hello Vagrant - I see this video is about 8 months old, so I'm not sure if you're still replying to all comments or not, but I thought I'd reach out just in case. Your video on Dofus and it's history was fantastic! SO well done! As someone who has played this game almost from the beginning and rode the wild ride you described so well in your video - great job! One thing you pointed out in your video, which is very true, is that most content creators are French. I actually started an English Dofus channel right about 9 months ago... I'm not huge by any means, but I think I've brought a lot of guides and tutorials into the English community that has been greatly needed. If you wouldn't mind giving a few of them a quick look and possibly let me know of any ideas you have for me improving the content for English players, I would be so grateful. I truly want to create awesome content for English players, so your feedback would be priceless. Thank you for your time - have an awesome day!
@@VagrantVideos Thanks so much - I really appreciate that. Watching some of your videos, it's clear you have reviewed a lot of games and probably have come across things you see that work & maybe don't work. I'm open to suggestions, if you happen to notice any. Thanks again for replying and your time. Have an awesome weekend. :-)
Removing PVP was the biggest mistake they made. All the Bonta vs Brak lore gone to smitherins with Frigost. From one day to the other, the focus was PvE multi account for dungeons and koliseum. All solo players got killed with that patch. I used to mine with my alt while looking for militia requests, had a sac leveled only from PvP from 60 to 140, rank 10... Scrolled and 1 exo ring for ap (lv57 or so ring). PvP was so fun and rewarding, specially hunting down targets inside bonta territory.
I LOVED this game back in the day. Remember begging my parents to subscribe! Never played wakfu when it came out, but was thinking of returning to this if it still had a community.
I'm german. I've been playing dofus since I was a baby,or rather watched,I've only been playing active it for 2 years now. My mom played it since 2005,I was born 2 years after that,my first character was an eniripsa (I was obsessed with fairies and stuff ) I was only allowed to be in Incarnam at first and wasn't alowed to text (I was around 8/9) my charcter hit level 100 2 years ago. I made my own account shortly after that, I pay with my pocket money and have 5 characters. all around level 50-60. I don't think ill ever stop playing. Until I have all 12 classes up to level 200
@@VagrantVideos thanks for the heart man, and I will,it's currently 1 am in germany and guess what I'm doing?!!?!?!? playing dofus. I have nothing better to do lol
@@VagrantVideos We decided to go back to it this summer. I logged to the game after watching your video (First time in 3 years). Now each class as twice as many spells (You have to select one of 2), it seem to only cost one point (until 100) to boost force (earth) by one on the Xelor (Apparently it's 1 for one until 100 no matter the class and element) and your spells lv with your character level... very confusing... it will be a challenge to relearn my two characters lol.
Yes Wakfu anime is really great and also the Dofus movie. In my country Wakfu, Krosmaga and even Waven are more popular than Dofus because the translation are being done or will be done for them, but nobody will take care of Dofus:( . Personally I started to play Dofus only two months ago and have not get bored, I think one reason is that I choose Eliotrope as my class, which is a pretty tactical and challenging class to play. You are absolutely right about the French part. I would say I love French but cannot really understand it, and when I am trying to find some guide or watch some fighting videos on RUclips or Twitch, most of them are in French… I hope they can pay more attention to International stuff. I'm playing on an international server but a so-called "dead" one, Echo. The only other regular server I can connect is Ily, which has more population but most are French. And without knowing why the connection to Ily has never been stable to me. I enjoyed playing on Echo so far, but still… please pay more attention in International part of your games Ankama XDD
For me it is dead. There are some major things that happened for me that lead to this. One was a security mistake where they had you take contact to get back youre acount. There me and my little brother lost or big account. This made my little brother quit and me play on further on a lowwer account i had. Second was that they became more and more beginner unfriendly. I was playing to earn money and to train jobs. But then they gave all low lvl enemy (like piwi and boar) so mush more health and movement. It made my farming take so mush more time and i couldnt even defeat them eneymore with some. Then what happened whas that they made it able to upgrade items. It was not that bad but one thing that happened because of this was that you could never put on youre wings. Poeple with max account made fresh ones and put upgraded stuff on them. Then they as a lvl 21 attacked me, a lvl 48 and killed me. And the fun part was that they couldn not lose points because they were "to low". Then they made the game more healthy and made it so my summon spam osa couldn not work in groeps because if an other osa did a summun all others had the same spell on CD. Wich was fine because i get the point but still it made my 12 summon build useless with friends. And i was free to play so i had put a lot of kamash and time in it. One thing this lead to was that i could not play with my osa friends again because we could not spam animore and made so i had to play more solo, something that Dofus wanned to avoid? And then it happened that they took away the 21 spells and made it 40 or so. This made it that the game i ones LOVED to play was no more. My best moment was to spam my summons, farms low lvl piwi to sell feathers or use them myself to lvl my profecion. Best memery i have is getting attacked by someone with winges and getting a knight on my side that alone killed my opponent. And the moment i fought 3 vs 3 and it was me vs a Iop. We were running around a building and i was spamming and he killed them. Then i summoned my aly back and kept running. He destroyed that aly and i respawned him. It took a long time but we won. ^^
Played this game for 10 years on and off and have about 7 different accounts at 200 it’s a big part of my life and I’ll never forget about it but I don’t think this game will survive very long at this point
Vagrant first account actually took 6 years on and off but after that other accounts took a year at most now that I have a full team of 200s it takes about a month to get a character to 199 and another month for 200
It's simple: They fail hard at Marketing Decisions.
As a player for ten years, I can say that Dofus is the right game for me and my tastes. I may sometimes want to, or need to (for quests), play with others, but I generally multi-account on my own. You are correct that Ankama spreads themselves way too thin, probably an issue more connected with French government sponsorship and credits than with profiting from each venture (like Uwe Boll does in Germany). This means that Dofus, until it totally collapses, will never achieve its true potential. Indeed, Dofus has such broad appeal that it could truly be a profitable franchise. For years, I have been inserting info for the game on sites like Wikipedia, hoping that potential players might stumble into it. However, the lackadaisical nature of Ankama's marketing and customer service departments means that my time is generally wasted. Indeed, they seem more concerned with security than with profits, as Kazakhstan has been blocked from the Dofus webpage since 2021, due to their ultra high Cloudflare security setting, which means that I have not been able to pay in real money for almost two years. Their system even blocks basic VPNs! Considering that, due to the chess-like nature of the game, a large part of their player base is Russian speakers, Ankama needs to find a logical balance to security.🤦
Dofus is far from dead for me. Like you, I was drawn to the game by a love of Final Fantasy Tactics and other turn-based tactical RPGs. I started playing in 2005 when the first international server (Rushu) was opened, and moved to Shika a couple of years later. Life happened, though, and in 2010 I fell out of the Dofus habit. In 2020, with the 'rona decimating my work and confining me at home with nothing to do, I came back to Dofus 2.0. I really wasn't expecting Dofus to even still be around, but it surprised me with how active the community was despite the age of the game. I started my old guild back up on Echo, the multiaccount international server, and we now have over 100 members and are associated with an alliance of other guilds as well. There are plenty of people still playing Dofus, many if not most of whom came back to it in the midst of the pandemic like me. If you want to give it another shot, let me know and we will help you out!
Retro may be the worst version for a new player. It's just veterans with multi-accounts with little to no regard towards begginers. The mono server is the best dofus experience right now, thanks to it's very high population and being a relatively new server. Multi-account servers are just devoid of any engaging interaction between the players.
2 facts that prove the game has a chance: 1: In early 2020 they let the game free for 2 weeks because of the hard quarantine on france, and the servers just blow, they had to open more servers and a temporis server. 2: A temporis server is a server that only is live for 3 months where you start from zero and grind for achievements to get cosmetic rewards, every time they realese a temporis they have to realese 10 servers because everybody goes to play, since in most temporis you can drop sets and basically only have to play the good part of the game. Now they are doing dofus 3 on a new engine, if they make the game free and less grind i belive they can get 20 times more players, no joke.
Wakfu is a sequel to Dofus, The lore for Wakfu is 1000 years after dofus, classes are much more powerful (Fecas now have the omnitrix and Osamodas are pokemon masters now for example) and there are some that seem to have gone extinct in the war against Ogrest (R.I.P Steamers)
@@VagrantVideos From what i heard, they died out in the war against Ogrest, and their machines tried to rebuild them as a robot, which are the Steamers on Wakfu. I heard this from some french guy so i don't know if this is canon, but this would certainly explain why they are not in Wakfu.
@@MissMultiConsole It's actually a really good MMORPG but you might need a friend to play with as most user are french speaker only if you're american you might play with mostly french canadian tho so most of them speak english as well
@@Jcomprendrien I am British I have played a little of the game before I managed to get to level 30ish and stopped when I hit the pay wall in fear that I wouldn't have anyone to go through the dungeons and stuff with I was on the echo server didn't really see that many people about when I played. Its definitely one of the more unique mmorpgs I have played and I actually enjoyed the writing for the quests they can be funny.
Started playing 14 years ago.First and only character, eniripsa.Got level 200 and making money for years to buy best set and finaly try pvp.Was excited about that. Then hard times come.I tried to sell all my kamas cause I need real life money.Got scammed. One of the worst moments in my gaming history.Still trying to find alternative game with same combat and maging system. It just doesnt exist. Then realize its time to move on.Still best game ever with best pvp,pve,profession.. everything.Growing is difficult when u have good childhood.
Like many other french dudes, played the shit out of this game in school (2006 to about 2010) and then got back to it during the corona. Still playing it when i have nothing better to do. The game has many obvious problems (ankama games like to program with their feet on the keyboard instead of their hands) and there's very little effort from ankama to grow the community outside of france, but it's very far from dead. If you have friends to play with, go for multiaccount servers (Ilyzaelle/Jahash) they have rly high population. Warning: like every other mmo, the trade chat and hub areas are 99.9% gold sellers.
I think that Ankama's problem is same as with Jagex. If your game is not instant hit you kill it with fire and bury deep under. Remaster is done pretty well! They have tuned music and that god awful Pandala tune is now listenable. Hopefully they make mono account retro server with group search since it came too late in to the game. Most people already started multiaccounting (and sharing) so community was already changing in to solo experience with mmo elements.
I'm a person on the fritz from playing the game. Literally, I'm literally debating with myself whether or not it is a good time investment. ALL of which wouldn't be much of a debate if I hadn't watched the TV series on Netflix... that being Wakfu. Dofus I found out about after watching the Wakfu series and I want to watch Dofus as well; it hasn't come too Netflix yet. I've been thinking, 'should I start with Wakfu,' which is the series I'm familiar with or Dofus the series that happened 300 year prior too Wakfu? That and the game looks dated... is it worth the time investment? Will I have fun or a hard time? Do I love the series enough too ignore all that which counts as a negative for me? Debating never ceases and every now and then I watch a review video on either "Dofus" or "Wakfu" to tip the scales too one side or the other on playing. This video was more of a "Nah," but tipped back in "Favor" with the phone application. On the fritz till the next review from someone.
@@VagrantVideos Yes it does, even a movie. Whether it is in english or not I haven't a clue... but from what I hear, fans of the Wakfu series are BIG fans of the Dofus series.
Just started a play through ty for this truly. And no I don't think it is dead I play on egg which is dwindling player base wise but I feel that in an instant update it'll bump up again, again ty, share your name if you ever wanna group.
@@VagrantVideos no autocorrect echo it's on current lol, sorry for the misunderstanding and if possible we could use discord instead of in game chat to communicate, up to you ig.
Feca is a very good class, easy to play and strong in pvm Osamodas would be the most safe pvm class, you can just sit back and let your summons kill stuff for you
7:45 Hey for REAL. I meant to jump into this game, since I remembered touching super briefly one of them years ago (don't know which!) and whenever I tried to get back in, I could never figure out which it was I just ended spending a ton of time researching what was the difference between the two anyways and never really got my answer. Just that Dofus was first and Wakfu second, but they DO look the same to me. Hell, this video itself kind of implies that they seem very similar but really aren't, and I still can't say I know the difference. lol
I fucking loved this game back when I was playing it as kid. I remember map above Astrub gate be always full of players. When I tried the game again few years ago, nearly nobody was there... shame. :/
I think the biggest problem with Dofus is Ankama just thinks about money. Whatever they say when you download the game, it’s not free at all. When I was child, I always wanted to go to Amakna, Pandawa, etc.. but I didn’t have money, I was just a kid.. now, the magic is gone, i don’t want to spend money playing a “free game”, all my friends who were playing don’t play anymore and I can’t imagine being “prisoned” a mensal subscription MMORPG game.. sadly.
The game feels anything but dead on Illy there’s queues to get into the game because so many people are coming back to it. Ankara also announced a cheaper server switch so players that can’t get into illy will probably populate other servers.
It also had commercials in The Netherlands. That's how i know it. I'm happy an other guy in my village still plays it like me. So we see eachother regular just to play dofus xd
odd, i get ads for this game all the time here on youtube which is weird because i'm usually not the mmo rpg guy(granted ive never really played the genre so that could very well change)
I remember being on the servers with my guildmates and friends the night they took the 1.29 servers down. So many of the friends I mad left the game at that moment and I've not been able to talk to 95% of them since. After that I just slowly lost interest myself and gave the game up. I've tried to pick it up here and there over the years since, both Dofus and Wakfu, and I just can't. The community is basically non-existent. At least on the servers I was on it was. I haven't touched either of them since like 2018 or 2019 now.
If you will pick up the game again I suggest you to start playing in Izyalle, over populated server(like there are too many people here, never found a single 1 star mob in 5 months,it's crazy) The only downside is that 70% of the people there speak french, but you can easly find an english guild if you write in the recruitment chat.
Dude you need to watch Wakfu it's really I mean really good it takes like 3 day to finish it if you have enough time like in summer and it's on Netflix could you tell me your reaction wonder if it was like mine and I found it randomly rouming on Netflix my favorite characters is dally, quillby, and eva
If they could prevent players from forming groups with themselves I think it could be really successful It has elements like players interacting with the environment to change the whole world (though this might have been more of a wakfu thing) And if they fix the problem with multiple accounts there would be a better community and I love the PVP aspects of the game too need to push it more
the success of dofus ans the fall for ankama ,they refuse to sell stocks to investisors like the other companies so the dont have much ressources to manage ,moderate, marketing 80% of players are french speaking and after the boss tell us we dont have enough ressources to develop the game,so we have much bugs which make our experience sucks
no its tot who shared this and im analyst in finance so i have some acces to some informations but my commentary is based to the boss anthony roux revelations shared on invtdrviews and his blop too ..
If you want to check out Dofus go here: www.dofus.com/en
What game should I cover next!?
Roter Blitz - DCUO holy smokes that’s a lot of games! Always appreciate your comments and you watching the video dude.
Ragnarok Online
Alchemxst Xavier I think Ragnorak Online is off for 2 months for a massive update, correct me if I’m wrong.
I had the same experience of the love from this game cuz I played FF tactics and many fans had that too with the same experience
I would say back than as a community and having fun cuz as kid you had no worries, it was an amazing experience that you was forced to play as a team. That thing is really unique and important to be as a kid unlike ur basic rpg games where you just can blitz through the monsters
In 2.0 to be honest, it was for the better cuz back then it was *TOO hard* to grind outside the beginning town of ankama. Astrub was hell with the krakrots that RIP-off ur ap and it was just hell overall
Before 2.0 it was just pure nostalgia and people being mad... but truth it was just fking hard to surpass going on a real adventure in the first place and that comes from someone who played it in those old school days.
Anway
I come back this year and I still see it can be very hard for an new player to blend in, you are forced to give real money to achieve stable gears, weapons ect. Which they would upgrade the graphics and overall experience for the economy but oh well it's still slowly improving when I saw the market so oh well..
I can remember that there was a commercial on tv (in the netherlands which was supuuuper unique to see cuz anime was still such a niche yet loved, ooh mann great time I rushed right to my pc to make an account 😭)
I'm still up to date what ankama is doing and they still trying to publish season 4 of the wakfu movie anime cuz they can declined by netflix of low believes that it wouldnt catch much money but they still trying anyhow to accomplish it
Dofus/wakfu is truly one of the best written fantasy story of the fantasy genre & french is such a big "weeb" country that supports and love anime in general. We have even now the famous manga/anime named radiant which also come from anakama studio
Now they are making an new game named waven which is an mix between wakfu & krossmaga. There is already an alpha/beta in french and for english translated will come hopefully this year.
Now that dofus merched with steam, now surprisingly more players has come so that's a very good thing. It's now pretty stable
Dofus is really one that has an special place on my heart and invested many hours in my childhood. Great times
This game was my life when I was a kid. Horrible childhood, but this was my escape. I'll never forget how the people I've met there made me feel like I found my place in the world. It may sound sad but it was some of the most enjoyable moments of my life.
Games can do that, they were definitely my escape
God I totally get you. All my friends were from here. Now I okay and I get an instant wave of nostalgia and sadness. I almost burst into tears because nothing will ever be like it was
I think it hurt us on the long run. I escaped from my life to dofus but if I did more stuff instead of playing this, i would be better in life
Master system's sonic was mine but dofus was definitely my future escape ever.

Wait...WHAT???
@Dark cigare Exactly. RIP
Noone but only Dofus players will understand what I mean. I might never have met you but all dofus players are my friends.
🤗
not on a Heroic server, we're not :P but yea.
I was looking at the opening montage and feeling nostalgia as if it's a physical place where I spent my middle school years.
Dofus, I miss this game.

Thanks I really appreciate that, France seems to have it lucky when it comes to this game with so many players
I love this game it's apart of my childhood the music always makes me feel relaxed
It’s such an amazing niche game I was glad to find it again
Oh these musics dude, such good memories
Guillaume Manderscheid I have big nostalgia for the beginning area theme
The game is very much alive, honestly. The mono-servers (single account servers like Illyzaelle and Jahash) are incredibly popular.
Mono servers sound like the way to go
they are still riddled with people asking you to pay up if you want to do basically any high level dung, so not much difference from the multi server as there is no "community feeling" left and this is coming from a player who started since 2005 till 2021 and have done everything there is to do in this game and in different servers.
@@AKRXI they are riddled with ppl proposing a service, you can totally do it without them by playing the game with friends. Being boosted isn't the normal way to play
I’ve actively played Dofus for over 10 years, and am still active to this day xP
Population is an issue on most servers, but there are still some that are very crowded at all times, like the mono-account server ilyzaelle
Is that for retro? I’m kinda looking for some tips for retro :)
Vagrant no :’v
@@VagrantVideos Mono Account means just that, You can only play with 1 account, 1 character at a time. So they actually fixed the multi accounts issue and are forcing players to play together on that server
Vlad Burlacu ya but do they have mono servers for retro?
I Wana cry it feels barren
so much nostalgia, nothing like racing rambo for the first 200, then the guilds... miss you blank & revolution. great times of my childhood that I so heavily wish could be what it once was.
“Part of the world being locked” bruh all of the zones are locked 😂
Lol I guess I should have stated you can then leave the area you get stuck in lol

DOFUS touch seemed so barren though in terms of population. I love old school DOFUS personally
Though one of the reasons I'm not too excited about playing dofus nowadays is that there aren't that many English-speaking players, and many French kick you from the party when you don't speak their language @___@
It wouldn't say they should specifically target the US market, but rather try to attract the international community in general, which usually speaks English. Dofus has a lot of potential and definitely caters to a very loyal niche of players. It was a HUGE hit here in Brazil back in the early 2000's, we even had our own servers.
Im surprised there arent any other turn based mmos
@@NeostormXLMAX they are extremely unpopular
This deserves more views
Most I can say is share it with your friends haha.
Just those who played dofus at the very beginning, where there was not even a client to play with, using a browser having a hard time trying to update adobe flash know whats this map 0:31 represents. There was not even monsters man! It brings me great memories
Wow sounds like you played beta or something lol
Dofus is super good and unique, together with Osrs and Tibia they make up the trifecta of the best MMOs in my opinion. Most other MMOs are WoW-like.
There hasn’t been a tactical mmorpg since this game as far as I know.
France is a great place for this game l wish it took off more here in the US
I'm a French guy, and i use to play a lot on Dofus in the past. All I can say is that ankama is developing a 3.0 version of the game on Unity and on the Dofus forum, one of the directors of ankama say that Dofus is enough alive so they can develop huge project like 3.0
Holy smokes is it going to be 3D??
@@VagrantVideos no just another huge visual update
Like 2.0
Ohmygahd
I know i'm late but to clarify, there will be 2 versions : a Unity port which will keep the game as is, just some performance and slight visual upgrades, and a complete different project which is dofus 3.0, they have launched a teaser for it a while back but it looked very animalcrossing-like so people hated it, now they are fully focusing on the Unity port project set to launch in 2023, the 3.0 project however is on hold
Never played Dofus but even now I’m still getting ads for it.
Also currently watching through several of your videos and so far they’re all really well put together.
Thank you! I got a new one dropping today!
Its the company thay doesnt pay that much atencion to other regions that are not france.
Content creators are mostly french, some latin and nobody in america steams or uploads to youtube.
I still think dofus is a great game but thay need to help other content creator that arent french.
It’s such a shame! The game is so huge over there, spread some of that love here.
Unfortunatly ankama does not support the french streamers and youtubers a lot either. I think you should try to play on ilyzaelle if you have only one character or check the website statofus to find the server which is the most active if you play as a team. You can play also on a french server, there is no big difference as most of french people know a few english words so you can play with them
Haha it's the same for even the french. Ankama does not listen to their players.
You can’t attack with melee weapons anymore? Interesting. Ya I like retro more but I’m just a filthy millennial that’s why lol
Hey thanks for watching! Ya a lot of these older games can’t seem to get that huge hype behind it anymore except WOW
It’s big in France 🇫🇷 for some reason
The company that makes it, Ankama, is pretty much the French Blizzard. The game will never die in France.
Dofus is a French game, so it's kind of obvious lol.
Agreed for both
As a long time player, it absolutely got better with time, for sure.
Thanks for watching! Definitely appreciate the comment. Ya I love that DOFUS made the Retro server, I’m boggled that’s Maplestory has not done so yet.
Damn sounds like World of Warcraft

Similar, but the strategy aspect was so much better.. worlds were active and the game was really intriguing. Discovering the world one area after another and grinding to craft/buy new sets
i remember when that happened dude...crazy lol...ii played on rushu
I just pick up the game too. I am lvl 159 cra on the single account server. The single account server is much much more fun and better because you can't multi account so you have to team up with other players.
Do they have that for retro??
@@VagrantVideos no unfortunately not. I tried retro but there a lot of quality of life differences.

Hey!
French lad here I've seen your video as an ad and it reminded me of some good times!
so let's go in my opinions stuff
I've played dofus since I was 7/8 ish when 2.0 came out I played because of some friends inviting me to try out this game and I absolutely loved it I became a huuge fan bought dvd's drew the characters and simply loved it, I've played since i was 14 and it was a great experience for me I think one of the main problems was the accessibility to the whole game for me ( as an 8 year old you don't have lots of money to spend on a video game) this game was really really popular here and I stil encounter people who played it.
(edit I lost my account now I'm sad:/. )
edit 2 I FOUND IT this boi is happy
edit 3 all servers are full I need to subscribe to get inside THIS THING was why I quitted the 1st one
Haha thanks for the long comment!! Ya I actually dove into DOFUS Retro as well! Playing on Bilby since that’s supposed to be the US English server lol
Lots of MMORPGs are moving to mobile, maybe this is the resurgence in America it needed
Vagrant I agree, the economy and number of player grows monthly
Wow I never even know the intricacies of how bad it got when the population got low.
Dofus was very popular in middle school in France. All of my friends played it and we talked about it all day! This was a nice trip down memory lane
Shoot I wish I had friends in middle school that played this!
@@VagrantVideos you would have loved growing up in France around that time then :)
Pierre Martin ya instead I grew up in America lol . Another life maybe.
The game is so popular in french communities that one of the most respected youtuber and player, Volcasaurus, is making his videos in french, and it isn't his main langage. I don't even know where he is from, I have seen german MP on his streams, but he mostly speaks french, some old vids are in english.
It’s the WOW of France.
I'll absolutely never understand why there wasn't a dungeon finder that spanned throughout all servers sorta like WoW, it would have kept me n my friend's playing since we were only a group of two and the game gets really hard later on
Lucky you I never got any of my friends on Dofus
I played it a lot with my friends back in the day, but recently I've been looking to play the game again. The problem now is that the game itself need people to help each other out, dungeons and certain missions require 2-4 or sometimes even 8 players. And I don't have anyone irl or online that plays the game anymore, so I end up paying kamas to players in the community chat just so they would come and help me finish it. It's super tiring.
Ya I wish my friends would wanna play half the stuff I play... oh well
Let's play (Y)
@@VagrantVideos unfortunately that isn't it.

Congratulations. The algoritham has been played into your favor. This video is merely the publicity that morphs the game into an active game. You gain following from a game you revive. Truly an interesting take on youtube success.
Uhh I’d struggle to say the algorithm worked in my favor lol
I guess that’s a valid point, the free version they have is just not a whole lot at all
The free version is till level 60 easily playable.
And u can just buy the Subscription with ingame money.
For "hundreds" of dollars you get several years of sub, what are you talking about ?
I absolutely LOVED this game! Used to play all the time. I distinctly remember trying to chat to other players and having to use google translate to get what they were saying (barely anyone spoke english haha). Honestly, only stopped playing because I was on a free account, and after a while reached a point where I couldn't really move forward without paying. Didn't have money for a paid account. Still, great memories 😀
Same here as a kid even though premium is only 5 bucks!
What is dead may never die also can I just say that for how few subscribers you have the quality of your channel is fairly good
Can I just say I LOVE comments like this?
Why did it stop in 2016? Did they all just quit?
@@VagrantVideos most of them quitted for personal reasons, and the comunity began to shrink. I think so.
Yeah, kinda seems like now Ankama is worried about their toy lines and have too many games
@@VagrantVideos I understand a business is there to make money, but can't help but feel like they lost their way with their flagship product "Dofus".
I just hopped back on dofus after 7 years and damm i love this game so much! Best mmo i ever played back in the days and now
Dofus 1.29 soundtrack hits just right
I don't think it's dead, it's just not very internationally friendly. If I knew french I'd get back into it for sure, since I absolutely love the art direction.
From the comments though, I might give it a shot since apparently the mono-acc servers are still alive, hell yeah buddyyyyyy
Haha well have fun man
I played it back in 2005-2009 on and off - and then came back it must've been when it was with the trial island and the whole 2.0 thing going on :) As you mentioned it's mainly fun played with friends, since i always had a big impression of the language blockade, mainly french people playing not very friendly nor interactive. But hey loved the game, the music and the whole feeling to it - came here to check if any english speaking people played it- glad i found your video quality coverage!
Thanks for watching I really appreciate the comment! Ya I always wish I could get some friends to play it but oh well
Yeah, not a lot of my friends have that nostalgic relationship to it - so it's kinda hard to sell them on the idea :)
Snorromir ya I’ve had that problem since day 1 of my mmo gaming, I’m always playing an awesome game my buds never wanna join lol
Also gotta play on non multi account servers because that also ruins the experience!
Oh wow that’s no fun :( my friend in Mexico 🇲🇽 said he used to play all the time as a kid so it’s a shame to see it declining
The Single-Account server of Ilyzaelle is really active! It has the English and French community mixed, and there is so many people to play with, in any lvl!
Oh nice! Is that retro or modern?

I can take a look or two my man, just remember I’m not a huge creator either by any means...so not sure what my ideas would hold for you 🙁
@@VagrantVideos Thanks so much - I really appreciate that.
It does! Just definitely not a big one for the USA
Get them all up

Ya kinda seems like this game literally I’m stuck in obscurity
@@VagrantVideos We decided to go back to it this summer. I logged to the game after watching your video (First time in 3 years). Now each class as twice as many spells (You have to select one of 2), it seem to only cost one point (until 100) to boost force (earth) by one on the Xelor (Apparently it's 1 for one until 100 no matter the class and element) and your spells lv with your character level... very confusing... it will be a challenge to relearn my two characters lol.
I played Wakfu for a year! Loved this series
They also have Waven coming out...Jesus so many different spins on Dofus lol
I made a Sram recently cuz I freaking love assassins. The game is such a hit it’s a shame the rest of the world doesn’t really care for it
Which level are u in Echo and if u want 2 i can Help you im rn a level 125 sram
Damn so many memories. I’m not that versed in DOFUS myself
In France and Morocco everyone have Played this game at least once
Played this game for 10 years on and off and have about 7 different accounts at 200 it’s a big part of my life and I’ll never forget about it but I don’t think this game will survive very long at this point
Oof, how long does it take to get to 200?
Vagrant first account actually took 6 years on and off but after that other accounts took a year at most now that I have a full team of 200s it takes about a month to get a character to 199 and another month for 200
It's simple: They fail hard at Marketing Decisions.
Oh wow did not know that about Wakfu, thought I saw it on steam?
@@VagrantVideos What exactly now?
My comment had multiple things. What di you not know of it?
What I’m saying is that at the time that I made the video I thought I saw Dofus on steam. The issues with Wakfu is interesting as well lol
I need to cover Wakfu at some point and see how that game is doing
Another amazing review! :) Keep it up and I hope your channel grows!!!
Lol thank you sir. I appreciate you taking a look at the content. I’m hoping to collab with bigger tubers at some point, that would be my dream.
@@VagrantVideos sounds like a smart move to bring exposure to your channel. 👌
Dima Kramarenko id love to be on Nerdslayer’s podcast or do a vid with prom or something one day: we will see lol
Retro may be the worst version for a new player. It's just veterans with multi-accounts with little to no regard towards begginers. The mono server is the best dofus experience right now, thanks to it's very high population and being a relatively new server. Multi-account servers are just devoid of any engaging interaction between the players.
I’ve been getting that a lot in the comments, looks like I have to get over retro!

2 facts that prove the game has a chance:
1: In early 2020 they let the game free for 2 weeks because of the hard quarantine on france, and the servers just blow, they had to open more servers and a temporis server.
What happened to streamers
@@VagrantVideos From what i heard, they died out in the war against Ogrest, and their machines tried to rebuild them as a robot, which are the Steamers on Wakfu.
I heard this from some french guy so i don't know if this is canon, but this would certainly explain why they are not in Wakfu.
Depends on the server, some servers are empty some are stacked, fun game
I went ahead and subbed for 3 months it’s so cheap!
Omg the music at the beginning so much memories ❤️🙏🏼
Lovely lovely Dofus
I'm french canadian and I can confirm that the game is mostly popular for the french speaker
is it not worthwhile for an english speaking person to start playing?
That sucks man, hope things get better. Maybe one day you’ll return
Such a great video bro!
I’ve been told there was a solo account server though?
@@VagrantVideos Yup in 2.XX has two mono account servers but retro doesn't have any.
Dofus has a cartoon series too?
@@VagrantVideos Yes it does, even a movie. Whether it is in english or not I haven't a clue... but from what I hear, fans of the Wakfu series are BIG fans of the Dofus series.
Solid video as usual fam
You da MVP my man.
Just started a play through ty for this truly. And no I don't think it is dead I play on egg which is dwindling player base wise but I feel that in an instant update it'll bump up again, again ty, share your name if you ever wanna group.
Egg...is that on retro?
@@VagrantVideos no autocorrect echo it's on current lol, sorry for the misunderstanding and if possible we could use discord instead of in game chat to communicate, up to you ig.
Also thx for the quick response
Jennifer Naughton I try to interact with my community as much as possible
3:05 the shows getting a season 4
What would be the best character to start? They messed it up sooo much since the beginning
I always liked Sacrier just because I like to tank but I also LOVE Feca.
Feca is a very good class, easy to play and strong in pvm
Osamodas would be the most safe pvm class, you can just sit back and let your summons kill stuff for you
7:45 Hey for REAL. Hell, this video itself kind of implies that they seem very similar but really aren't, and I still can't say I know the difference. lol
Wakfu has a different sort of progression system but combat is still similar
So, how do I play Dofus. I already know some things but I never actually knew how to actually play the game.
Gotta go to their website and download the game!
I fucking loved this game back when I was playing it as kid. I remember map above Astrub gate be always full of players. When I tried the game again few years ago, nearly nobody was there... shame. :/
Apparently its still really popular in France though!
@@VagrantVideos I may visit it again, but I have to finish my studies first.
I think the biggest problem with Dofus is Ankama just thinks about money. Whatever they say when you download the game, it’s not free at all. When I was child, I always wanted to go to Amakna, Pandawa, etc.. but I didn’t have money, I was just a kid.. now, the magic is gone, i don’t want to spend money playing a “free game”, all my friends who were playing don’t play anymore and I can’t imagine being “prisoned” a mensal subscription MMORPG game.. sadly.
At least you had friends that played! I could never get anyone to play with me
Awesome job. Great video ❤
Thank you
The game feels anything but dead on Illy there’s queues to get into the game because so many people are coming back to it. Ankara also announced a cheaper server switch so players that can’t get into illy will probably populate other servers.
They need to make multi accounting less favorable
Well because of the current world wide situation , the queue has even peeked at 8500 in queue a most for me
It also had commercials in The Netherlands. That's how i know it. I'm happy an other guy in my village still plays it like me. So we see eachother regular just to play dofus xd
Also learned french without having french on school. Love you dofus❤️
Wow that’s really cool, wish I had that experience!
odd, i get ads for this game all the time here on youtube which is weird because i'm usually not the mmo rpg guy(granted ive never really played the genre so that could very well change)
There are tons of MMORPGs you may love, explore the genre!
This video is super dank but why was it an ad?
You can set it up to be advertised lol
Did u pay for it to be an add?
The worst thing you can do when "balancing" a game is cut the legs to all classes
If you will pick up the game again I suggest you to start playing in Izyalle, over populated server(like there are too many people here, never found a single 1 star mob in 5 months,it's crazy)
The only downside is that 70% of the people there speak french, but you can easly find an english guild if you write in the recruitment chat.
Maybe if I get some time lol
Schrödinger's Dofus! :D Both alive and dead at the same time.
Alive in my heart, but dead in the online p2p mess..
It’s only 5 dollars though, pretty cheap compared to other games but it is a 2D game lol
If they could prevent players from forming groups with themselves I think it could be really successful It has elements like players interacting with the environment to change the whole world (though this might have been more of a wakfu thing) And if they fix the problem with multiple accounts there would be a better community and I love the PVP aspects of the game too need to push it more
Apparently there is single account servers where you are forced to use only one account
the success of dofus ans the fall for ankama ,they refuse to sell stocks to investisors like the other companies so the dont have much ressources to manage ,moderate, marketing 80% of players are french speaking and after the boss tell us we dont have enough ressources to develop the game,so we have much bugs which make our experience sucks
Ouch, you sound like a developer, is this something past employees shared?
no its tot who shared this and im analyst in finance so i have some acces to some informations but my commentary is based to the boss anthony roux revelations shared on invtdrviews and his blop too ..
i downloaded the game its asking me for an id account but idk what to do i just download this today?
