Whoever did like I did, and didn’t play Lords of the Fallen, after the initial frustration, but somehow one day started it again, only to find a completely new experience (pre big update 1.5), I finally got the game that I wished for. Then when the update came, it skyrocketed. Imagine having a Randomizer on console, and a boss rush mode, new quests weapons and general improvements. The developers never stopped optimizing the game, despite the huge criticism they got in the beginning (justified], but now it’s my second favorite soulslike behind Lies of P.
I recently platinumed Steel Rising and Thymesia because I read they were very good Souls-likes to start with for complete newbies to the genre like myself. Enjoyed them both and am now currently getting my backside kicked by Bloodborne. Loads of fun though!
why do people always categorize Blasphemous and Hollow Knight as Souls-like game...because they are not...these video games are reminiscent of the 80's 2D Arcade games...and with all seriousness, there were many 2D Arcade games many years ago that are way more difficult than any Souls-like games of today.

Dont even regard Hollow Knight, Remnant or Nioh as Souls-like games, only because they have that label on steam? or these games are tough? Anyone who played these games would never put them into souls-like catagory, they are all basicly different genere.
I think defining 'soulslike' games can be really tricky because the genre is still evolving, which is why everyone interprets it a bit differently. Part of what makes it exciting is how diverse the games that fall under the 'soulslike' umbrella can be! While Lies of P might be the perfect soulslike experience for some, others see games like Hollow Knight, Remnant, and Nioh as part of the same broad category because they borrow core elements: challenging combat, methodical progression, punishing difficulty, and rewarding persistence. Well said, to me metrodinavia and soul formula is very similar in many aspects, they borrow concepts from each other to the point, when my favourite games are 3d metrodinavia ( good exploration, shortcuts, well connected world ) Thats why I love so much bleak faith, lords of the fallen and steelrising @@TheNerdsGames
I’ve beaten the last pantheon in hollow knight and I feel like it’s way harder than any souls game I’ve played so far, so Difficulty ✅ Interconnected map ✅ Bonfires that respawn enemies ✅ Currency from enemies that gets destroyed if you die twice ✅ Methodical combat that isn’t button mashy ✅ I get why people think hollow knight isn’t a souls like but you have to admit the line is pretty blurry
@@beanzthumbz yeah hollow knight is definitly similar to soul games, too bad I didnt like it. I just cant finish dark souls 1, hollow knigh and lies of P. Their gameplay is too slow, kind of like do it and repeat. I prefer more chaos which gives me ds3, lords of the fallen, last faith etc
@@DarkHumor_6 well spending gold that u can get only from killing mobs for leveling up, items and all other things is typical soulslike formula. Attacks and rolls taking your stamina is also typical soulslike formula, because what is hard about souls for beginner is stamina managment. Then add to that hard bosses that are not just hard, they will kill u in 2 or 3 hits. Many metrodivania games are similar in this case

And for the stam and dodges / rolls, they are very different to souls like rolls since these ones are in 2D. For me, blasphemous and hollow knight aren‘t soulslike even if there are bonefires, and dodging/rolling (wich is only in blasphemous). I don‘t know if u get what I mean but for example, even tho zelda botw has bonefire system (shrines) stamina and dodging mechanics its not a souls like. So the same is for hk and blasphemous
@@DarkHumor_6 u dont get it, exp is your gold, no single rpg game have that. In typical rpg u get exp and gold and it is a big difference, because in soulslike u lose all gold when u die. Soulslike games punish u for many things and thats why zelda is not even close cuz its easier to finish. Blasphemous is a hard game for random players same as soul games. This formula overall shows middle finger to new players. I dont know how to explain it
Well... shit. I came here to find somethibg new, but I played and platinumed all of these except Remnant (not interested in shooters). I can also add Salt and Sanctuary and its sequel Salt and Sacrifice, the actual 2D soulslikes, and Wo Long, from the studio that made Nioh.
Mortal Shell just didn't hit with me. I was really hyped for it since it looked very Dark Soulsy but I dropped it after about 2 hours but am glad for the people that enjoyed it.
I platinumed the damn thing, but can't say "enjoyed" was the right word. It's challenging, but, throughout, feels ... "heavy"-- dark, burdensome, a slog through thick mud under a miserable cold drizzle. I finished the "obsidian" never-pick-up-a-body run out of pure pride, but felt no need to pick it up again when the roguelike expansion came out.
@@maxkalton5936 Damn, you hit the nail on the head on what I was feeling while playing I just couldn't put it into words. It is a mud filled slog to run through, couldn't have phrased it better myself and that's what was keeping me from getting into it. The aesthetic and vibe is awesome since it harkens back to the first Souls and Bloodborne in simply it's looks but that's not enough to carry the game.
Hellpoint is a true hidden gem 💎 so underrated

Nioh 2 is my favorite game of all time.
