I have to smile when I hear anybody saying "Too much tech...nanny features" etc. When I was very young, back in the 1970s, we had a motorcycle meet-up every August & truly ancient stuff would turn up. One was a pre-WW1 Norton (I think) that had fuel mixture & spark advance controls. The equally ancient owner could be heard lambasting "modern bikes" & how riders don't need auto-advance & carburetors that give the correct fuel/air ratio at all times "if they know how to ride....what're you going to do when it breaks?" Etc etc etc.
I have a 2022 Tracer 9 GT, it is a brilliant motorcycle. Before I made the purchase I did research and looked at the Tiger 900 GT Pro, Kaw SX1000 GT, Suz GSX1000 GT+, BMW F900, Suzuki VStrom, and The. Kaw Versus. The Kaw SX1000 and Suzuki GSX+ are great motorcycle but the insurance costs are very high. From a performance standpoint, I think the Tracer is better. The one motorcycle that I was torn between is the Tiger 900 GT Pro. I think Triumph makes one of the best motorcycles on the market. The Tiger 900 is nicely equipped. I ended up choosing the Tracer 9GT. In reality, I am not going to be doing the " Long Way Around" trips anytime soon. The performance, safety features, cruise , heated grips, and pillion bags as standard plus yamaha dependability you can't go wrong. It is a great sport cruiser that you can crush a lot of miles on it.
I have both, the Tiger and the Tracer. Tracer is much more comfortable for long distance trips on paved roads. Much smoother engine and no vibrations on highway. However, Tiger will be more comfortable on lower speeds and dented roads.
I already have a 900GT and I'm totally fine with the bike I have so for me there is no point in upgrading to the current spec but if Yamaha launched a Tracer 1000 based on the CP4 I'd be first in line. Now that would be a smashing bike with all this tech!
Contrary to what you say, Yamaha claims the bike to be a sports tourer, not a tourer. Something with better wind protection would be the FJR1300, although Yamaha also claims that to be a sports tourer
@@jatinthakur3491no matter how tall screen you get, the wind management is bad on the tracer. I know,i own one. Installed 3 screens untill now. Great bike. I`m a owner of GT+ since 3 weeks, coming from 2016 Tracer. The handling of GT+ is awsome and create a big smile in my face at every km. Personally, I have the Tracer 9 GT, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The engine is an absolute delight, and the versatility it offers is unbeatable. Incredibly fun.
I think the Multistrada V4S cruise is tied into the lean angle sensor - it applies a slowing of the bike when leaned to a certain degree to ensure traction. This is most likely why the Tracer slowed on cruise in the corners. Of course it may also could have been because you were bunched up in corners, being on a press ride and all. Anyway, always a good review, Motobob. 👍🏼
I've just done 500 miles over a little under two weeks, mix of moorland an motorway riding on mt09 GT (no cruise control), it's a very easy bike to ride and comfy too, plenty of grunt and a joy to ride on the twisty roads, it's pretty tall and heavy to drag around your garage or car park but other than that 👍👍😃😃😉
Gr8 to see adaptive cruise in an affordable bike ! which is a godsend in the busy motorways in UK. Anything that reduces fatigues is a safety feature. Not a fan of the front end .
I'm not at the stage of getting a touring bike yet, but starting to consider it. I think this is an all round great package, except for the upright seating position. I suffer from periodic lower back pain. Sitting upright on an office chair, dining chair or car seat causes too much compression and I struggle to stand up and walk around afterwards. Riding my GSXR = no back pain
Once I saw the Tracer 9 GT overalll styliing and addtional technology, it just didn't work for me and I hurried and found a new previous model Tracer 900 GT. I love that bike.
I just got my Tracer 900 GT ( previous Tracer 900 for sale now) 2 weeks ago and I agree with you absolutely about styling. Don’t see the point paying thousands more for the new model. And it doesn’t look like bargain anymore.
Stunning bike! But I still don’t understand why Yamaha couldn’t design a proper headlight unit, an actual touring screen and a comfortable seat for the GT+ Thanks for another quality post MB🤘
I’d stick with the gt , to many gimmick’s ( driving aids ) taking over the enjoyment if riding the bike , been riding 51 years , cruise control ( you learn to stop every 100 miles approx , top up bike , have a break ) used to doing 500 mile trips in a day . Keeping your distance etc , you’ve got eyes to keep your distance ( defensive driving technique) , car pulls into the gap in front, slow down . Abs and traction control is all you need , go on advanced driving courses etc 😊😊👍👍👍
With you there, but I do 200mile hops(3hrs)...just brought a new VW Golf GTD up the road for a mate, terrible thing, it pulls you into potholes you are trying to avoid, slams on the brakes when making an overtake on the m/way(i literally hit the steering wheel with my head,as I wear my seatbelt clipped due to a neck/nerve problem, goes automatically onto stop/start everytime you set off(the most useless feature in Scotland, where a battery last about a fortnight, never mind the starter motor?)... why haven't they learned from the Tenere, keep it simple, sell them by the boat load?
The greybeards all over again. If I have learned anything while riding my bike is that no matter how many years somebody rides around, that is zero indication of riding skill level, knowledge or expirience. ABS was seen as a gimmick when it came out first, then dual breaking systems and now cruise control and I have certainly forgot some other stuff. Can you guys just please shut off for once and let the people buy and ride whatever they want and shove your elitism somehwere with no sun light access?
CC is the best feature I have on my bike. Even now I manage to snag some slow speed speed-camera snapshots. I try to ride every 30- 50-70 kmh zone on CC to avoid more tickets. Also on hiways great feature for longer stretches.
The non plus version of the Tracer 9GT would appeal , if they got rid of the Dame Edna / Wall-E / Groucho Marx dashboard LCD and had this one instead. I'd read some stuff about combined braking on the 2023 Tracer 9GT+, and from reading it, it didn't appeal. I'd need a long road test , doubt I'm going to get one of those !
The split screen is one of the main reasons that I'm sticking with my 2015 tracer rather than updating/upgrading to the new model. I'd also rather have the 10kg weight saving over the radar tech
The only time I use cruise control is on the interstate here in the U.S. when there is no traffic around. When I'm around traffic I just turn the cruise off, so adaptive cruise is something I would never use.
I think the Tracer would compare to the Versys 1000, which is a bit bulkier and probably better if you carry a passenger. Regardless, nothing can beat the reliability and drama-free ownership of a Japanese bike. Thanks for the video.

I have an odd question. How much heat does this bike put on the knees, legs, crotch. The reason I ask is I recently swapped from a Transalp (little to no heat) to a Africa Twin DCT which blows hot air on my knees and lower legs like someone is pointing a hair dryer at them. I love the AT but the heat is killing the experience for me. I’m a fan of the Tracer and Super Tenere is why I ask.
I have the Tracer 9GT. It's a great bike - I don't mind the twin TFTs, but the windscreen is awful. I've tried two alternatives and still not completely happy. The bottom line is that even though I love the bike the finish is poor quality. Despite cleaning and ACF50 some components look bad after just one winter. Yamaha wouldn't entertain my warranty claim (dealer supported) and said they can't take into account road salt. Well, my five year old Triumph was still like new. Unacceptable. As for the GT+, I think it's far too expensive and definitely not worth the extra money.
Good job Bob, ...I think this new Tracer 9 GT+ will soon replace my BMW R1200R of 2017, because i think seriously that BMW is now to much expansive : the same bike (R1250R) = up 22 000 € 🤬
I just wish Yamaha would stop screwing around and throw the MT10 engine in this platform. The triple is okay but a crossplane I4 would be a prefect match for this sports tourer.
Maybe so but fuel mileage is holding that back. Stopping every 120ish miles for fuel is not to good for a sport tourer. Maybe a 6gallon tank would make it viable.
I have a Tracer 9GT and find the standard seat a bit of a pain after 200 kilometres, mainly because it jams you against the tank because of its forward slope. Is the new seat on the GT+ much better. If so, is it available as an accessory to fit to the 2021 Tracer GT?
standard seat is a pain in the ass, the wind protection is screaming in my ear to stop riding and buy a different bike, seating position with bent knees is so aggressive I feel like sitting on a sport bike and thats why I sold it. Best decision ever. My Tenere 700 is way more fun.
@@meoffjack I feel like if you ended up with the Tenere then you flat out chose the wrong type of bike to begin with. Should have figured that out on the test ride or even just sitting on it.
Yamaha should have kept tracer as a little brother and made a seperate 1200-1300 cc 2 up touring machine. Touring on tracer 9 works fine with single rider or short day trips with passenger and weekend luggage. Yamaha has no competitor in the segment of regular full fledge touring bikes. Not sure why yamaha stopped producing or remake of FJR1300.
Perhaps I missed opinions on the following, but what about: Garage manners; easy to maneuver in the parking lot? Maintenance schedule? Seat and ergonomics still “super comfortable” after eight - ten touring hours? What’s the fuel type/range/consumption?
I really struggle with your assessment of this bikes handling. When I decided to test one of these, I rode to the dealership on my GSA 1250, hopped off it and rode back the exact same way out and back to the dealership. I then got back on my gs and immediately sensed a difference in town. Grunt, plushness and quality. Once out of town it was just night and day. The BMW was far more willing, throttle response was in a different league, suspension absorbed the bumps but was supportive. I had far better feedback and was able to ride significantly faster whilst being more relaxed. Oh and the brakes were simply miles better on the BM. The tracer is a typical attempt at seducing people with tech to cover up cheap parts. I’m not sure how specific these comments are to me. I ride a lot on the track with a zx10 and so maybe the tracer is ok for slower riders, but I hated it. It tied itself in knots, had rubbish fuelling. Brakes were ok but lacked feel and the engine is just bland.
Ah sorry, but it is definitely not an adventure tourer. It IS a Sport tourer. Yamaha made it as such. It Is not designed for off road. You can convert it, sure. But it is built to be a Sport tourer. Yamaha's adventure tourer is the Tenere.
so do you think this bike is the replacement for the FJR1300 or there will be a replacement for that bike? with bikes like Tracer 9 GT is the FJR still considered as a sport touring or just a touring bike?
Until they fix that crappy suspension settings (just 2), all this tech is a waste. Id rather take progressive manual damper setting than what Yamaha thinks is best for me. Btw own the GT and ridden around 20k kms. The good thing though is the engine - powerful and fuel efficient for touring
The bags look terrible kind of an afterthought I guess. Everything else looks good and that motor is a Gem. The price is a bargain compared to other models in the class. It’s around $5K less in my local dealer than the Tiger 900 GT🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
The Tracer 9 GT+ was launch in 2023, but the TFT dash is only available for that "GT+" model. The "Standard" and "GT" variants have divers face dash up to date. All variants of the new 2025 Tracer 9 (standard, GT, GT+) comes with big TFT screen tho.
Surely us bikers only ride on motorways or highways when we absolutely have to, we generally seek out the twisties or more interesting roads.... so the radar system is largely redundant and little more than pub bragging rights? 🤔
@@ChrisSauer-oe5ve i would but my mv store dont test ride unless you have 2 full years with license A (where you start with A2 here, so i m out but still need to have 2 years) Yamaha i have tested mt09 its nice and in fact i am considering it for changing bike.
My guy put your feet corrcetly on the pegs, anything else makes it look like you'd crash the second you met a corner on a trackday. I felt like your review was spot on, thank you for the info!
Funny how reviews kinda miss big points. So here goes:still a crappy seat, sloped forward, and you end up hitting the jewels to the tank. Do not bother with the comfort seat, still crap, and way to expensive for crap. Windscreen still crap, wind protection is a hit and miss on the tracer. Buffeting, and the windscreen mount to flimsy,if you install a tall screen,it will bend from the mouting. And you compare the bike with the big boys. Sorry, not just, yeah,it is cheaper but can t compare spec to spec to the big boys in the class. Nice screen, adaptive cruise is cool only for commuting or riding on bigger roads,i can live without it,most of us can. Same brakes as the gt,but linked now. Linked is nice. But the brakes, you say are good, well,i beg to differ. They are just enough, but not great. Semiactive still only dampening, and manual preload. But the suspension is bad. Can t really adjust preload with real measurements as the bike is not rolling, so if you do a semiactive suspension,do it all the way. Still only 2 settings? Difference is little between the 2 settings. No other adjustmens. So,i would gladly pay 17k euro for a tracer ,but with better brakes, suspension, and screen. It just feels they gave it some gizmoes, and increased the price by alot. So,i will gladly keep my tracer 9 gt, not upgrade to the +. Not worth it. To be honest, i would br better off getting a tracer 9 , when they give it the dash. Add qs and heated grips. Buy aftermarket sidecases and topcase, and do a full suspension upgrade ,with professional setting. That will get you a better bike😊
@@ChrisSauer-oe5ve thx . I say these things after 20.000 km on the gt. I really love the bike, for it s great engine, light and flickable character. But on some points ot s a miss. And these are design mistakes that should have been solved for the next generation, + model. And it got sooo expensive compared to 3 years ago... I will just pay 3k extra and get the tiger 1200 gt,then to buy the +.
Crazy how this has too much tech while their middleweight (MT07 and XSR700) barely have anything aside from ABS. They at least should add traction control, slipper clutch, or even a better suspension to these aforementioned bikes for the price they are sitting rn.
I may have missed this, but is the suspension the latest version? Reviews of the original (semi active) were not overwhelmingly positive. Just wondered if it’s been updated since launch. Great review. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Unfortunately they put all of these gadgets and still have that absolute rubbish screen and seat that you need to replace just after buying it ! It is a disgrace for Yamaha not to solve this basic trouble well known by all their users at probably just a minor cost.
All these gadgets controlling the bike, people taking autostradas, sat nav…I don’t get it. Where’s the “adventure”? ,ignore as well get a good virtual reality headset

Cardo breaks and doesn't stand by their products. I use Sena now, i hope their products will be of better quality and won't break within first year of ocassional use.
radar is vastly overrated..... who wants to sit in traffic droning on behind whatever is in front....... cut through the pack and get out into clear road, never sit in traffic relying on tech that makes you part of the traffic jam. i had a KTM 1290S, i tried it, turned it off, its not the wunder tech its touted to be. Versys 1000 SE+ for the win
@@JtwizzleI agree with you 👍😂🤣
Makes me love my ealry 2000 bike even more.
Still waiting on a Tracer 10 😕
Guessing calling it the GT$ is a bit too bold.
@pointsonly They discontinued ST because of emission regulations. Same related to FJR. Hope they will introduce something new any time soon.
Perhaps I missed opinions on the following, but what about: Garage manners; easy to maneuver in the parking lot? Maintenance schedule? Seat and ergonomics still “super comfortable” after eight - ten touring hours? What’s the fuel type/range/consumption?
That's the pilot...wrong Y/T channel
Buy one & give us your thoughts 🤡😂
I still hate the fact that it has only one light, It just looks odd
Love to know what you'd think of the adaptive cruise if added to 1000sx? Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx+???
It has front full active suspension ...
Yamaha always king ❤❤
$16.5k starting price in US
Another excellent vid! Nice "job" if you can get it... Good Day, mate! ✌️ Out dp.
I say by the style of the bike, it's more adventure tourer. Definately not a sports tourer.
I do like the new dash instead of the older split dash.
Call Yamaha and ask they 😂🤦♂️
Gsx1250 bandit best all-rounder ever for price tec just spoils the ride
Until they fix that crappy suspension settings (just 2), all this tech is a waste. Id rather take progressive manual damper setting than what Yamaha thinks is best for me. Btw own the GT and ridden around 20k kms. The good thing though is the engine - powerful and fuel efficient for touring
Well said 👏
I want this bike. All the tech/rider aids. $10K less than other bikes.
The bags look terrible kind of an afterthought I guess. Everything else looks good and that motor is a Gem. The price is a bargain compared to other models in the class. It’s around $5K less in my local dealer than the Tiger 900 GT🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
9:28 Yamaha 🎉 from 150cc .
What year did they change from the divers face dash?
The Tracer 9 GT+ was launch in 2023, but the TFT dash is only available for that "GT+" model. The "Standard" and "GT" variants have divers face dash up to date. All variants of the new 2025 Tracer 9 (standard, GT, GT+) comes with big TFT screen tho.
Hi, is the 23 identical to the 24? Thanks
Yes exactly the same 😂🤣🤦♂️
I want more HP, I’ve been dying for a sport tourer with 200hp
I’d rather get rid of the fluff, i.e. adaptive, cruise control and pay 2K less for this great motor bike
How much do you rekon it would cost without all the tech? That’s the interesting question.
Maybe you can special order one 👍
Let me know how that works out.
Looks the absolute business !! 🤤
Far to many manufacturers going down this Road
Learn to ride Your bikes, concentrate on the road, and take regular breaks
This comments seems to be very out of context, in regards to what should people learn to ride their bikes?
Shaft drive would have put it over the top.
Surely us bikers only ride on motorways or highways when we absolutely have to, we generally seek out the twisties or more interesting roads.... so the radar system is largely redundant and little more than pub bragging rights? 🤔
Be no good for a track day either. Ho ho.
My dream
I want a three cylindred 1200cc from Yamaha… 😇🥰
Take back all this tech, and give a comfy seat
I would be curious to see it against the mv Agusta turismo véloce …. ;)
Go test ride them & find out.
We will wait for your report 🤔
@@ChrisSauer-oe5ve i would but my mv store dont test ride unless you have 2 full years with license A (where you start with A2 here, so i m out but still need to have 2 years)
Yamaha i have tested mt09 its nice and in fact i am considering it for changing bike.
Has some cool tech but the Honda NT1100 seems like a better bike
Probably is
My guy put your feet corrcetly on the pegs, anything else makes it look like you'd crash the second you met a corner on a trackday.
I felt like your review was spot on, thank you for the info!
Nice
Nicely said Sir!!👏👏
Most of the people on here are 🤡🤡🤣
@@ChrisSauer-oe5ve thx .
Not for me. I've already got this type of tech on my motorway weapon of choice, my car. Don't need it on my bike as well.
For this price I would have Ducati V2S!Much better suspension and comfort
That old split screen scuba mask screen was total shit in my opinion. Yamaha defo made an improvement with that part
RE are selling well... people wonder why 😂
Am I the only one that thinks a real GT should have shaft drive?
Yes you’re 😂
Crazy how this has too much tech while their middleweight (MT07 and XSR700) barely have anything aside from ABS.
They at least should add traction control, slipper clutch, or even a better suspension to these aforementioned bikes for the price they are sitting rn.
This one is comparable to xsr900 which has quick shifter and cruise control as standard
I may have missed this, but is the suspension the latest version? Reviews of the original (semi active) were not overwhelmingly positive. Just wondered if it’s been updated since launch. Great review. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
I'd still take the kawasaki versys 1000 gt over this anyday
Panniers are too small
5 years down the line and all that tech starts getting a bit flakey. No thank you.
Unfortunately they put all of these gadgets and still have that absolute rubbish screen and seat that you need to replace just after buying it ! It is a disgrace for Yamaha not to solve this basic trouble well known by all their users at probably just a minor cost.
Yamaha, are you listening? Produce a Tracer 10, CP4 engine with a bigger fuel tank. Thank me later!
That upper headlight kills an otherwise good-looking bike.
Minute: 2:12 is too funny 😂
Sorry dude but this ain't a review, rather is promo video for Tracer GT+. This coming from the owner of Tracer 900 GT.
Well said, I was thinking exactly same thing 👏😂
All these gadgets controlling the bike, people taking autostradas, sat nav…I don’t get it. Where’s the “adventure”? ,ignore as well get a good virtual reality headset
i have a fj09 and i think it has too much electric crap on it. just give us a bike with a throttle and a brake with a clutch
How the F is this not a touring bike? Especially when you compare it with Tiger 9? That Kawi isn't on the same planet as this motorcycle. I didn't understand this review very much.
Too much tech. Too much tech in general on new bikes
yeah acc only useful and safe on motorway
Cardo breaks and doesn't stand by their products. I use Sena now, i hope their products will be of better quality and won't break within first year of ocassional use.
Do tell 🤔
where triumph 400 review
We haven’t been able to ride it - I believe not until November 😔
@@motobob i was waiting for your review. It would be good to have a different opinion to ours here in India. Anyway, great video on the Tracer
wish it had shaft drive. ??!!
No!
Go buy a car if you want a driveshaft 🤦♂️
Seriously? 😂😂😂
Get a car
radar is vastly overrated..... who wants to sit in traffic droning on behind whatever is in front....... cut through the pack and get out into clear road, never sit in traffic relying on tech that makes you part of the traffic jam.
i had a KTM 1290S, i tried it, turned it off, its not the wunder tech its touted to be. EDIT: are you seriously relying on radar to stop you getting too close to whats in front????
The seat is junk!
There you go.
Your welcome 🤗
Lol 😂 not too much tech, very little compare to top tourers. 😂
A bike with so much of the alphabet, and then some, it should be designated it's own flag?😂
