Very helpful indeed. Not only in allowing me to set up refuelling missions, but (being a newbie) it also helped a lot in just getting to know how to use the mission editor.
Mav, just a couple of pointers. 1. Don't tick the GS box, you don't want your tanker to vary its Indicated Airspeed (IAS) when turning downwind or into wind. It should fly a constant IAS. e.g. With a 40 kts wind at 18k it would vary its speed between 180 to 260 kts IAS during the tanker race track. 2. 300 kts in the ME at 18k ft is 220kts IAS and may well be a tad slow to refuel heavily laden jets however the KC130's drogue is limited to 250kts IAS max. 240 would be better. For example, KC135 typically refuels laden F18s at 280kts IAS. Druid_
Quick question; when i do this the drogue on the 135mprs is always extended. How do i get it so he only extends when asked for fuel? (like in aerobatics online servers etc) Silly little thing but part of the fun is watching it extend on asking before connecting up. Thanks for the video :)
In single player the drogue comes out after you initially contact the tanker then approach it. In multiplayer the drogue doesn’t do this and only comes out when you call ready pre contact. If you want the basket to wait for you to be pre contact in single player, don’t call the tanker until you are actually in the pre contact position 😉
@@104thMaverick sorry dude, we have cross wires. I know what you're saying, but my issue is the drogue is extended on both wings regardless of contact. When I call ready pre contact things still work fine but the drogue is just extended from taker spawn regardless and never retracts. I'm setting up a server mission and it's the last part of the puzzle, might be a bug not sure.. 135mprs if you want to verify? Appreciate your help!
Excellent tutorial. I’ve looked at several tanker mission and so this is the first that explained how to set up the orbit. I wish you could just set tanker airspeed instead of having to work numbers off ground speed.
Perhaps you can help...your video was great and my squad likes learning how to aerial refuel. However, despite setting the speed to 400 knots (we understand DCS uses ground speed), it continues to use 300. For F-15's, 210 kts is pretty tough to refuel with! Help! :)
ED might have broken something, they tend to break stuff very often so this could be a casualty. Make sure you are setting the speed not just on the waypoint but also in the ORBIT command under advanced options too.
I know this is slightly off topic, but can someone explain why the AI aircraft I create often end up diving and crashing into the ground? Some background: I've created a dogfight scenario of F-15s and Su-27s, and when they fight, it seems atleast half just fly into the ground. I understand this can happen sometimes while trying to evade a missile, but it seems to be happening too often! They will even do this when there isn't a missile inbound. Thanks
Hi MAV. Great instructional video's. I have learned a ton from you. On the topic of refueling. Is there a way to have say the S-3 ( I think its an S-3 ) take off from the Stennis and then just Orbit around the moving Stennis? No point in having WP's if all I want is for the S-3 to stay within say 10 N Miles from the ship with a shallow bank to refuel those of us who take a while to actually land lol. Thanks in advance. Dave
Remember in DCS if you are flying a full fidelity aircraft the radio button doesnt work when you are in the air. You have to press Ralt=Radio button for radio 1 and Rctrl+Radio button for radio 2
Thank you for this, always wanted to create a "Refueling " mission, only one problem, I don't see the option to radio the tanker to join, can you help with this please. I do have simple radio enabled...
Once you place the tanker in the mission make sure his role is set to AERIAL REFUELLING (you can see the role option in the top right)... as long as he is selected in that role he will be in the radio menu when you press the # button. Press # to open the radio menu then F6 for the tanker.
Thanks, very clearly explained. I plan to use the same idea initially to set up a sitting duck target for missile and gun practice before getting into dogfights.
Yes, if you go to advanced waypoint actions there is an option to select refuelling for AI aircraft. Then you just set that action at the waypoint you want it to happen on.
You can just join our teamspeak server my friend, our DCS server is also open to the public. There is no age limit for our server however unfortunately we are not recruiting as a Squadron right now but you are more than welcome to fly with us on the server!
Thank you!!! Can't believe it's taken this long to get a proper tanker setup video. The forums go off on tangents with people debating the proper speed setup and how orbiting works. I thought you had to setup waypoints in a pattern or just let the tanker fly straight out to infinity. Someone should really explain speed conversions ias, gs, etc., to better understand how to assign correct speed for air assets when setting up a mission.
As they say in the classics: "Give a man a mish, he can play for a day. Teach a man to mish, he can play for a lifetime."

So if you untick the GS box the speed target becomes IAS?
@@boggy8557 TAS. IAS corrected for altitude
That was exactly what I was looking for. Very clearly explained. thank you!
Thanks Mav, yours was the first tutorial to come up when I searched for this. See ya in the skies buddy

Sounds like a bug mate
I like that intro with Harrier shutdown..:-) And of course the whole video.

I so everything exactly as described but tanker doesn't show in any radio meanie. What's up with that?
I'm trying this out and after I select the KC-135 and set the skill, etc....the lower menu remains greyed out....I can't set waypoints, alt, etc
Most useful thing I've seen this year! Many thanks.
Cheers, hope it helps!
Yes, thanks, except my tanker won't trail hoses?
My tankers TACAN shows up as 1X "TKR" regardless of what I set it at.

Yes, checked both...we managed to get a few short contacts but really, at that airspeed, the Eagle struggles...or with me controlling it!
Thx. I finally know how to set up a proper tanker mission!

i cant talk to the tankert on the radio what did i do wrong? I've reviewed everything I'm missing something.

Yeah i tried this and must of done something wrong. Everytime I changed to the tanker frequency and requested refuel it never replied

Look to Tanker radio frequency when you add it to the map. You can preset your craft to that freq. too.
4:52 Is it possible to make the tanker have unlimited fuel or is it some random scripting required?
N.T.C.G Gaming sadly not mate, you need to do scripting for that

Wait how do you set up a TACAN freq for the tanker?
Nolan the Simmer I believe in the advanced waypoint options

Thankyou for this i just needed to set up a little mission, and some of the RUclips videos were like an hour long! Thanks
Glad it helped
Anyone know how to change maps once you open mission editor???

@@104thMaverick got it. Thanks!!!

Is there a specific way to join 104th or just hop in the teamspeak and dcs server. Also is there an age limit

Much appreciated, I hadn’t realised about the orbit command. That was good to know.

I made mission since few month, and, I just understand how orbits works... I never get that... Thanks man !!!!
You're welcome big dog!
The 6562 feet is 2000M. Still a bit random but at least it's a round number. :)
M M M M Many thanks for setting up this mission!! It allowed me to finally connect to the tanker and drink up.
I love your vids already cause you sound like Gerard butler
Thanks for this!
My pleasure!
Very helpful, thanks!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Captain.
Great instructions but your method of explaining was rapid. I had to replay the video to catch up. Helpful anyways
Thank you
