  • Now then, welcome back to the channel. I little later today than normal because I've been frustrating over a guitar that should have only taken me 2 hours, still not done after 5hrs!!
    Anyway, today we are building the circuit for the Acapulco Gold from Earthquaker Devices. This one with a gain pot on the input to make the pedal a little more user friendly. Its so loud!!
    Thanks for tuning in guys! Hope you enjoy this video. Its a bit long. It was much, much longer but shortened it and sped it up where I could, but I still wanted you to get a full understanding of how much work goes into even a simple circuit.

    Just finished the build. It sounds good but still getting use to the sound. I used two JRC386D. It was very noisy at first, but it turned out to be the power supply. I switched to a battery and things cleared up dramatically. I used regular single sided perf-board and a regular schematic circuit. Thanks for the video, cheers.

      Yeah I noticed a drastic difference in noise depending on power supply and cables. Thanks for watching man!

    Good video but I couldn't hear a fkn word you were saying because of the music lol.
    Not sure if I like the acapulco gold pedal, it's a very fuzzy fuzz and has a bit of the low battery type effect (I watched a video earlier of an actual acapulco gold pedal being used). I'm sure there are plenty of mods you can do to the circuit. I'm gradually learning a bit of electronics from watching videos and reading bits and pieces. I think trimmer pots can be handy for fine tuning circuits and capacitors in certain places can lower or get rid of noise. Also there is the thing of biasing transistors though I don't know if amp chips would need biasing or not, but biasing could be done with trimmer pots and if you didn't want the trimmer pot in the circuit you could measure the resistance at the setting that sounds just right and then use a resistor of the same of close resistance.
    I recently bought a load of different components and stuff off of Ali and will be bread boarding effects circuits. I do enjoy messing about with electronics.

    I've had 2 attempts at this pedL I'm starting my 3rd I keep cutting the tracks wrong on the veroboard. Hopefully I get it right this time. I also wanted to see what I can add to make it more narly.
    Thanks for the video dude!

      @@goliathfx if I use lm386 instead of jcr386 will it make much of a difference?

    • @goliathfx
      @goliathfx  3 года назад +1

      I use the LM386 but I've read they need to be specific ones or the circuit is really noisy, hence why this demo is a touch noisy. I bought some LM386N-4 which were recommended on a forum.

    What are the holes used for with the blackmarker and drillbit used which those holes were used for what?

    • @goliathfx
      @goliathfx  7 месяцев назад

      Hey, was it not explained well? I can talk you through it, but essentially the boards we are using are long strips of copper. And to utilise space we want to place multiple components on those strips but do not want the signal or current to flow to them all. So we cut the copper. The easiest way is to use a small drill bit. The black dots identify where we need to cut. Hope that helps.

    I actually need some tips for soldering! I’m bloody awful at it. I end up with big piles of solder everywhere but where it’s supposed to be

    • @goliathfx
      @goliathfx  2 года назад +1

      Practice my man haha. Make sure you're using good quality solder and soldering iron, and that the irons temperature is good and hot. Heat the components for a second before adding solder, only add a small amount of solder, keep the heat there for another second and then remove the iron. If you've put too much solder on, then just use a sucker or braid to get rid of the excess. But yeah, practice man, you'll get there!

      @@goliathfx Cheers. I think it’s like most things really. I just need to practice.
      It’s a really great circuit though. I prefer to stack it after a Rat type pedal for the ‘Sunn-like Sound’. Gain control is a helpful touch. Never though I’d say this but you can actually have too much gain. Rare admittedly but too much and you’ve got nowt but wool.

    • @goliathfx

      Aye mate, 100% agree, you can have too much gain, and sometimes less is more ;)

    Hi, what IC type do you use 386D or 386-N1?

    • @goliathfx
      @goliathfx  3 года назад

      Hey, yeah I used both of those to start with and had loads of noise. After a bit of research I found EQD used 386-N4s so sourced a few and the noise was a lot better. It will work with the others, just use a noise gate to mute it when your not playing. Hope that helps.
