I'm just gonna put it out there, the box has the advantage here. Even though the LeMans has an extra 5 horse over the Caprice, the Caprice has the delivery and weight advantage.
@@paulsheehan5010 I had a 68 Mustang and it only had a lap belt from the factory. Had a 69 Ranchero as well and it too was only equipped with a lap belt.
I had the ‘86 Caprice, a ‘79 Impala coupe and a Parisienne around there too. All that platform but and Old dude up the road growing up had the two-door version of this Pontiac. I think it was a copper-ish color. I always wanted that car. I’d love to have any of my squares back. Even that taxi he wrecked into would suit me. Now I have an ‘87 Silverado 😂
There are two different green LeMans which gets switched many times. The one with all of the dents and which gets crashed is a hardtop and is a Luxury LeMans (2 horizontal bars on grille), the one without the dents and which interior shots are made from is a pillared sedan (non luxury model-1 horizonal bar on grille). The Luxury model did not come as a pillared sedan and the plain model did not come as a hardtop.
What you say is correct for model year 1972, which was the first year for the "Luxury Lemans", and the last year of the intermediate 4 door hardtops, that year offered only on the Luxury Lemans, unlike 1970 and 1971 when Pontoac offered the 4 door intermediate hardtop as a Lemans and as a Lemans Sport. The hardtop in this movie clip appears to be a 1972 Luxury Lemans that has been largely de-chromed.
The LeMans that was wrecked was already a wreck...probably rusted out and patched n sprayed for the scene. Notice the car the interior shots are filmed in is a standard sedan, the one in the chase is a pillarless hardtop.
George Jacob Thats because its a different car. The wrecked one is a 4 door hardtop that was likely a rustbucket with a quick paint job. So they actually didnt destroy that nice original sedan.
The suspension improvements they made on GM cars between 1972 and 1987 would have the Caprice a much better handling car. I've driven both and the mid 80's GM cars handle ten times better than anything made in 1972.
Chris Spangler Yes they’re both uses truck suspension, but the guy meant they did minor tweaks for later G-bodies in after in 1977 and later in 1986 that made them less lousy and little more responsive still, no where near the the handling characteristics of a car with uni-body technology and independent rear suspension, although this truck suspension is much more tougher.
GM never did handle.Mopars were the tight handling cars back then, they hugged corners and were ten times better !! I am a car collector and owned them all..I own many Mopars and GM,Fords..Mopars are truly better ,quicker, better handlers !!
I was rooting for the cop. Did not care for the punk. So I guess he played his part very well. I found one of them when I was 15 sitting in the field a two-door same color. I don't know if he's a luxury Coop or not but didn't I have the engine transmission. My dad talked me out of it. He was right it wasn't worth $150 back then.
The Caprice would have been on the borderline of having a driver's side airbag. The 72 leMans didn't have one and the lap and shoulder belts were two separate belts and not conducive for a thug in a car chase to buckle up even if he were inclined to do so.
If the Lemans driver had worn both the lap and separate shoulder belts, he probably wouldn't even have had a headache, but thugs aren't usually too safety conscious.
Anyone know what kind of chassis is under the lemans? I know alot of changes happened in 71' for the impala/caprice but not sure on pontiac. If it still has a similar chassis to a 70' or 60s impala/caprice, i think that 80s box chevy wouldve knocked that fckin pontiac around like it was styrofoam hahaha

The LeMans did not stand a chance with a driver with such a big heavy nose that weighs in at at least 500lbs.
IF YOU HAD YOUR SEATBELT ON, YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL!
YEAH! I KNOW!
Nah ur gunna hit it those cars seat belts suck lol
Probably just a lap belt in the Le Mans.

A basic, 4 door LeMans like that would be a fun car to own.
They could have used the 1992 redesigned Caprice. They were too much in love with these M body cars even till the late 90s

The French Connection car chase
😊
Lol don't mess up the fun of it
I didn't notice that and when you look it's very apparent!
Why do people always think the chase has to be good if they wreck the cars?
eldo59 totally agree
I agree poor lemans and caprice

Love how she puts the Rotator light on the Roof and for some reason it's making the siren tone.
Sirens are mounted in the grill of unmarked cars and the majority of marked cars.
I owned a 87' Caprice. Loved it!

You can see where the Aussie HQ Holden got it's styling from.
I prefer the early 80s Impala version of the B body of the Caprice.

Such a pretty Caprice until they fucked it up
Reminds me of the French Connection with the cop going through traffic in able to keep up with the suspect and with the LeMans getting beat up.
Ford Trucks Fan I said the same thing
Thats a good looking Pontiac Lemans Sedan.
Adrien Brody and the woman from one of those US doctor sitcoms.
And the guy from The Planet of The Apes TV series.
Welp, That was a waste of a Good LeMans.
Its weird seeing those 2 fullsize cars go at it with all these 90's cars on the road
