Rae seems to be the kind of nice person that tries to see every side of an argument, which I appreciate but don't always agree with. Yes, sellers *do* have to make money... But no one is grabbing them by the neck, putting a gun to their head and forcing them to set up as a drop shipping scalper.
I don't feel charitable enough to call them middlemen, middlemen are people like distributors that spend time and money getting stuff onto store shelves, and keeping a stock of things for customers to have right then. They have to manage things like supply lines and employees, pay for their location, so on and so forth. No one really likes a middleman, but there are actual legitimate services that many do perform. They have a function.
Dropshippers are either people desperately trying to hustle to escape poverty (understandable) but doing it unethically, or they're people that don't have any conscience/have fooled themselves into thinking they're necessary as the guy managing supply chains. I do really feel for the former- I know the fear of going to bed terrified that you won't have the same luxury come next evening.

So one element that's not being factored in is pretty much any item on Amazon that's like under under $15. You can normally find for cheaper in person or on other sites before shipping.
Because of Amazon for prime and free shipping as well as other policies that hurt sellers. It pretty much forces sellers to calculate the price of shipping into their price so they are losing money.
Like both the paint brushes and the pastels are more expensive by how much shipping would cost. There isn't really any room for profit.

You got one thing wrong by adding shein there. Temu is not a manufacturer like shein is. Temu is just a giant marketplace with different stores and sellers. There are very similar websites to the temu like aliexpress and Amazon. They virtually operate the same. They host sellers and you can visit their shops. I was actually looking over there for a nail polish stand but I have no place to put it. I use that website sometimes for things I can't find anywhere. The difference is shein manufactures the things that they sell. The clothing is made by them. So you can imagine they underpay their staff or abuse them in some way. For the other two the difference is since they are a marketplace they don't make their own stuff. They just host sellers. So we can't get mad at them for work ethics because none of them make the stuff they sell. I got a phonecase (I have a Chinese branded phone a Xiaomi so they're hard to find on the market in Italy) from a store called nice store. Ali express did not make the phonecase. It’s gotten to the point where consumers need to do their due diligence before buying. For example, right now there is a tiny watercolor palette being offered on Facebook, along with a water container, magnetic clip, paintbrush, and watercolor journal. Their package deal is about $120. I just bought the exact same thing from Temu for $30. The only difference is the more expensive option also comes with tiny dabs of paint preloaded into the palette. Buyer beware! Do your research.

I could be wrong, but while reading these comments my ideas seem to be confirmed, Temu is NOT probably legit. I feel like the artists sell it to amazon or wherever amazon finds these things and Temu finds a new way to take them, but instead way underpays and mistreats their workers just to make us happy with a lower price. Not only that, but I know that they likely will steal your identity and/or credit card info, because after buying on Temu my sister all of a sudden had someone(not her) using her card and had to cancel it etc. This is a warning for anyone who wants to buy from any fast fashion website/shop, they are very likely to not be super legit.

The worst was when I recognize stickers from the amazon bulk sticker packs and they're selling them for $2-5 each and passing them off as their own. Really putting the Con in Convention.

So, even if the comparisons might make sense to the US, I can say that it's different in Europe. I can get a sketchbook I like that works for me for cheaper than the "cheap" one in this video.
Cheap watercolors aren't worth it if you plan on using them to make art, only worth it if you've never tried them and want to experiment with something cheap before trying something of better quality (just go to the equivalent to the "dollar store" from the US and you should find cheap watercolors). Plus, since when it's "cheap" spending $30 on a watercolor set, just buy a winsor & newton cotman set and you'll be able to 1) have good watercolors, 2) only spend 15€, 3) actually learn to paint with watercolors, since you'll have to mix the colors to get what you want.
If you still want "cheap watercolors" just go and get the cheapest children's set instead of buying off of temu.
The pencils????? Sorry but why buy an almost $10 set of mechanical pencils when in most places you can buy a basic and good pencil for $1 or $2? Pretty sure you can get a set of pencils for even less than the the temu set (in fact, I found a set for 1,53€ with 12 pencils on amazon).
And last, the fineliners. Just buy the ones that work for you. I got some brush pens years ago from wish to try them out without suffering the prices, liked them and switched to better ones that last me longer and do exactly what I want. You need fineliners that will work with your pieces, not just cheap ones.
In the end, what I think is that there are really cheaper options out there, but you must know what you're doing with the materials, and if you plan on using them together (example: fineliners that are water resistant not always will work with alcohol markers, and viceversa).
Don't buy from temu just for funsies.

Perhaps add shipping costs as a warning to look at. Buying from chinese companies adds always a ton of shipping costs that make the price difference with Amazon not that big. I also feel like it's easier to return items through Amazon and less hassle when things go wrong with a delivery.
Don't let the critical comments get you down btw. Guess Temu stirs up quite the strong opinions, which doesn't have to do with your good intentions. It's nice how you try to think of ways to help those with less to spend. Perhaps a video about controvercial ways of using cheap supplies to make amazing art with would be interesting? Or a video on how to sell art made with cheap products? Kinda missed you making art in this one. Looking forward to the next one!😸

No, not meaning OUR money, more the quick fix situation that is harming the environment and is not really sustainable. Just how LONG will we buy junk stuff till we realise we are being duped.
