C-mon Doug!!! Here, let me break it down for you: Flaherty and Maeda both have has major injury issues the past 3 years. Just that fact alone would limit their value no matter how they pitched because the clock is ticking and it's only a matter of when - not if - they'll get hurt again. Canha and Urshela are both utility guys with mediocre bats. Their versatility is their best asset. However both guys are on the downside of their careers. So their trade value is limited. Then you've got Chafin, Miller and Carson Kelly who pretty much do nothing except add veteran depth to any team. So their trade values are minimal as well. If the Tigers were serious about rebuilding this team quickly, here are their top 6 trade candidates in this order that would inject a large quantity of talent into the organization overnight:
1. Tarik Skubal - Dominant Ace but knocking on 30 years old.
2. Riley Greene - Solid bat and glove but injury issues are a concern.
3. Matt Vierling - Most improved player on team; can play 5 different positions and can hit a little bit.
4. Jason Foley - Can hit triple digits and be a quality late inning relief option if not occasional Closer.
5. Spencer Torkelson - Loads of untapped power potential; just needs change of scenery and a smaller ballpark.
6. Andy Ibanez - Crushes lefties and can almost play anywhere on the diamond.
7. Tyler Holton - Very solid LHP with the ability to be a long or short reliever.
Now! You might say we'd be insane to trade all those guys. My question is why? We're a below .500 team with them. Most of them have multiple years left on their contracts which only increases their trade value. And we need more talent! With an emphasis on MORE!!! In this case quantity matters because it increases our margins for error depending on how many of those young players we'd receive back don't have success.
It’s been a revolving door at the hitting coach position
Skubal will need to be traded in order to get bats in this organization. Do I hate the idea? Yes but lets be realistic. The Orioles have a great farm system with ready bats. I would send him to Orioles. I hear the dodgers want him but the farm system stinks. The tigers pitching is far better in the farm than the hitting.
