    Jan, some golf clubs that use a graphite shaft are quite flexible and they do bend when the club is swung, so the bend of your club in the photo may mean that they are using the graphite shaft on the club.

    A mirrorless version of a D500 would make sense. It would also push Canon towards upping the quality of the R7 lineup. Any one of these companies "hitting it out of the park" with a model is a huge incentive for the others to up the quality of their own offerings. Competition is GREAT for the consumer!!!

    • @David_Quinn_Photography
      @David_Quinn_Photography 7 месяцев назад +2

      Competition is key for the consumer, Canon is the top dog right now and you can see their anti-consumer actions, they have photo cameras that suck at video and we have very little 3rd party glass on the RF mount while Sony continues to give photo cameras that can do video quite well and now a 120FPS camera. I have used Canon EF for 20 years and if I was buying a new platform now I would be leaving Canon.

      The current R7 does not feel like it is on eye-level with the R5. It feels more like a consumer-level FF body. Would love to see an high-MP APS body with the same features and button layout as the R5. And while I am day-dreaming, make in the same form factor as the R5 for compatibility of accessories (battery grip, l bracket, etc.).

    One of big reason why I still use my Nikon D500 is that they do not offer anything that can compete with it in aps-c size. Z50 is not it, since the autofocus is not that good. Especially for birds and action

      I actually do not think it is true that the D500 has better AF than a Z50. I had a D500 and a Z6 for several years and the Z6 outperformed the D500 with the same lens. The Z50 is very similar in AF to the Z6.
      Especially the 3D tracking of the D500 is bad and very erratic. The subject tracking of the Z6 is really on another level.
      The only advantage the D500 has over the Z6 is the optical viewfinder, the electronic viewfinder of the Z6 is its weakpoint or rather design flaw: Slideshow when shooting in H+ mode. The Z50 has the same issue, in fact likely all Z cameras except for the Z8 and Z9.
      So I guess you actually never used a Z50.

    I shoot the canon r6 mk.2. I'm all about 3rd party lenses. Love it!! But I believe canon needs to start concentrating on making enough lenses to begin with. As they put out the 200 to 800 and I'm looking at a long time before getting my hands on one. Yes I could have pre ordered. I guess I'm just frustrated that everywhere I look it's on back order. Anyway the prime is much lighter and easier to operate. In some reviews sony fe 200-600mm is better at 600mm than z180-600 and in some reviews they are equal. I can not see any practical difference. Those expensive over 12K euro primes surely win z 180-600 outside the center but they are too expensive for me, cheers

    An APS-C camera from Nikon would be great, because as others have said, it would force Canon to get at least somewhat serious about crop sensor cameras. The build quality, readout speed, and features on the r7 right now are way below where they should be to be a 7D Mark II replacement. I'm cautiously optimistic that the really good sigma glass will come to RF, but knowing Canon I'm sure they'll find some way to screw it up.

    A D500 mirrorless equivalent requires a dedicated APS-C compact lens lineup to take full benefit of the smaller sensor. That market is gone to MFT. They have all the high quality compact lenses one might need.

The A9III is an amazing camera. I am sure you will enjoy using it. I have just optimised the configuration on my A9III for my genres, the same way as I did for the A9 and A1. It would be great to see a mirrorless D500. I loved my D500, but when I wanted to upgrade to a mirrorless, I ended up switching to Canon because I felt the R7 was the closest mirrorless equivalent to the D500. Seems like Nikon really ignored the crop sensor action market with their mirrorless lineup. The Z6II may be getting better with firmware updates, but when I tried one it just didn't compare for fast action.

    I have just got a Sony A9iii (replacing an A7Rv) and look forward to seeing how it compares to the A1. The pre-capture and new AI autofocus are the big attractions to me rather than the global shutter or 120fps - as the 30fps of the A1 I think quite fast enough for most situations and I have never noticed rolling shutter with the fast readout speed of the A1. For culling the large number of images I am using Photo Mechanic before loading to Lightroom. I think the A9iii may be the perfect wildlife camera EXCEPT the 24mp sensor rather limits cropping.

    I am 67 and hope I live long enough for affordable global shutter to trickle down to decent video...lol... Despite many YT authors saying they can eliminate rolling shutter, none do the ultimate test. Lightning video is the ultimate test of rolling shutter, even with the best rolling shutter and high frame rates you still frames that capture only a portion of the lightning bolt. My Nikon 780 has around 50% "munted" frames at 4K/30p, maybe 30-40% at 1080p / 60p. Therefore I cannot wait for global shutters return, I say return as the first few video cameras i had all were global, but they had crap SD resolution or even worse.

    The prob I see with the Nikon updates is ; Its telling me that I shouldn't buy one of their cameras in the first year of launch as it seems the bodies are just launched with missing features. Why did the Z8 get launched with out Bird AF when the Z9 had it ?? The Z8 now has features that are not in the higher priced Z9 , its a bit of a mess.
    I also have a feeling that features are being held back at launch to be added later as an update so Nikon are perceived as the good guys with giving customers updates.

    I think a flagship APS-C camera from Nikon would be great. It has to be a professional camera with all of the qualities of a professional camera (like the Nikon D500 had), just with the 1.5 crop factor of an APS-C camera. That is where Sony made a mistake (they should have made a baby A1, but that is not what the A6700 is). If they could just slightly bump up the megapixel count beyond 20.9, so that when you do a minor crop (i.e. straightening the horizon), you're still left with at least 20.9 megapixels, that would be perfect (a 24 megapixel APS-C camera would leave enough room to do something like that... that is still less than the Canon and Sony APS-C cameras). I understand why, economically, it makes more sense for Nikon to be focused on a Z6III, but if they're wanting to keep up the reputation for professional products that they've been building with the Z8/Z9, all of their great lenses, etc., to me, a mirrorless D500 seems like the way to go.
    For firmware updates, Nikon should add some form of highlight alerts to the Z8/Z9 that can be turned on/off. Even just a thick line (although there is probably a better solution than this) that shows up on the right side of the electronic viewfinder when a highlight is clipping, and a thick line on the left side of the electronic viewfinder when a shadow is clipping would be helpful. That way photographers who are using an expose to the right strategy have a quick way to determine when they've got an optimal exposure.
    I suppose an expose to the right exposure mode that could be turned on/off would also solve this problem (the camera using an expose to the right histogram as their default target, instead of the neutral histogram that they opt for on the assumption that some photographers are shooting JPEG, and won't be able to adjust the exposure in post-production). They could even create a sub-option with a title such as "Link Shutter Speed Dial to Minimum Shutter Speed", where the camera will start to move the histogram to the left when the shutter speed drops below a default set by the shutter dial. This would ensure an optimal exposure given the minimum shutter speed needed to guarantee a sharp photo in a given situation. I know that sounds kind of experimental, and in the weeds, but that would be amazing.

    I still have a D500 as my primary camera. I really want an R7mkii with an R5-level readout or stacked. But Nikon still has a chance. An APSC flagship at 24-33MP could sway me since the 180-600 is internal zoom, vs 200-800 and R6ii/R7. If Canon comes with an R7mkii before Nikon gets an APSC flagship, IDK. I like Canon AF.

I wonder how the 300mm performs with the 2x extender. Are you also trying to get the new Sigma 500mm f/5.6? • @WernerBirdNature
    @WernerBirdNature 7 месяцев назад

    Hi Jan, good to see Sony also invited photographers specialized in non-human action sports ;-) But I'd guess the a9iii would struggle against the R3 in your dark rainforrest ..
    With Canon only giving weather sealing to a few non-L lenses (like the 200-800), they leave plenty of room for third party glass below L level, but a notch above the cheaper non-L options.
    Nikon should indeed bring a Z90 to compete with the R7, but given the D500 only came out after the 7Dii, they might wait until the R7ii to be certain there's a market for a birding APS-C body 😛
    By the way: my beloved 100-500 is on the way to Canon Germany .. the tripod collar no longer tightens (not enough to rotate the lens by holding the foot when swapping lenses), and because they hadn't seen that issue they wanted to check it out for themselves ..

    • @jan_wegener

    • @WernerBirdNature
      @WernerBirdNature 7 месяцев назад

      @@jan_wegener Hi Jan, all headlines about the a9iii do point in such direction. I must admit not reading/watching all details because as far as I know, no one of your level in our niche already tested it. And having now 4 L-zooms covering 14-800 I guess I'm pretty fixed in camp Canon ;-)
      About the Canon CP+ Phototrend interview, CR quotes Canon about global shutter as "there are negative points and the image quality is affected. Sensitivity management is not very good and the dynamic range is less extensive. And I think we would have difficulty optimizing this, because of the very complex structure of this type of sensor"
      It seems RED is able to make high IQ global shutter sensors, but in the market below 10k$ the global shutter comes today with significant compromises. I would guess Canon will first try it on the R3ii in a few years time ..

      well, I you like to wait several years, you may miss a lot of opportunities. I heard the same argument, when the A9 came out. While I was shoot with a fast camera, others where waiting for several years.

      @@chosenbydesign9007 The A9III has many ways to define the zones for a good reason. There is a certain overlap outside the selected zone. It's up to you, to select the optimal zone for a given situation. It is still hard for any camera, to read your mind. I think Jan understands that very well.

    Global shutter just not that critical for me. It doesn't matter weather the golf clubs got a little bend in it or not everybody knows what's going on, and it's just not worth that kind of money to see a straight Golf Club for me. One main thing to me is having 45 megapixels are more to be able to edit my photos in different ways. So it comes down too, do I want a camera with 22 megapixels to 33 megapixels and a straight Golf Club. Or do I wanna be able to crop and edit my images for best overall results. It's just a no brainer for me and it doesn't seem to affect bottom line on my profits. I can't just justify $6000 to straighten out my bat, my golf club, and make my balls look rounder lol. That goes for Sony, Nikon and Cannon. Oh, let's not forget the 80,000 shutter speed. and 200 frames to get the right shot at that moment, edit and send to your editor?

      I guess it highly depends what you shoot. For certain sports and applications it makes a lot of sense, for other it’s more of a luxury

      reducing it to straight Golf Club, is like putting barn doors to your vision. There are many reasons, why a GS has a lot of advantages. Of course, there also many reasons, why you don't need a GS. As long as you understand your needs, its fine.

    Canon is a business and is there to generate profits not to give you what you want at a discount price.
    why don't people talk about the fact that sony is OVERPRICED by thousands of dollars there's too many models with only small frustrating differences and although there's third parties lenses, the good lenses are not cheap and lots of people use canon lenses with adapters.
    nikon well there's not much quality unless you buy the pro stuff now.
    canon gives you the best choices for your budget if you find another brand to be better just buy it
    we all would love to buy Leica but almost no one can afford them let's make videos about how they don't give you enough for your money. i haven't seen a quality difference big enough to justify the thousands of $$$ they cost
