I've never used the loudness meter for my music videos, I just use compression and mainly listen to for any clipping or distortion even if momentarily the meter hits the red. I've never had a problem with that method.
Hi Mike, thank you for all these videos! I am a newbie to video and audio. It seems to me you should use Audition as Primary as you can see the wave forms and spot healing etc, am I right if I have time, to edit (clean up) audio do in Audition and then put into Premier Pro? I ask this as my house is quite old with old poorly insulated windows so sometimes I can hear planes, kids playing in gardens, central heating pipes and the occasional police siren and cats. I am using two mics (Rode Video Mic Go 2 (shotgun mic boomed which picks up background noise which is behind it) and Rode wireless Pro which picks up less background noise weirdly). I have carpet and thick curtain.
Yeah, that's a great approach, especially given your noisy environment, and using Audition to clean up the audio before bringing it into Premiere Pro can make a big difference in the overall quality!
@@MikeRussell 1 last question. I am confused with the 23 LUFs vs 14 LUFs. If Adobe targets 23 LUFs with the auto matching. Why is YouTUbe 14 Lufs target? I understand RUclips advises that too but I thought the sweet spot for audio is between -12 and -6. When I target -14LUFs for RUclips. my meter is between -6 and slightly above -3. am I overthinking this or will -14 be fine for RUclips? Thank you in advance and apologies for silly questions
Very helpful, thanks Mike! My question: if you have a project that will be uploaded to multiple platforms, is there a standard intergrated LUFS level that can be used or should you create multiple projects for each platform?
Great question! For multi-platform projects, I usually aim for a integrated LUFS level of around -16 to -18, which tends to work well across most platforms, but it's always a good idea to check the specific loudness normalization guidelines for
My cousin has a talent to restore Sony Cassette Decks to it's finest quality like I got it from the shop in year 2000. I had trouble rewinding audio cassettes. The cassette would start rewinding in left and right deck then it would auto stop each time when I try to rewind. So I took my Sony cassette in Summer of 2024 to his house for repairs and he orders parts online and restores them to it's best. I am hopping to have my Sony Cassette Deck from year 2000 back by summer of next year. I told him you got plenty of time to restore it to it's best condition take your time do not do it in a hurry and check A to Z what else is faulty inside plus what ever the final cost is at the end of restore service I will pay you.
That's amazing, it's great that your cousin has the skills to restore your Sony Cassette Deck to its former glory and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait!
I use Corel Video Studio X10 and for audio editing Cool Edit Pro 2.0 I edit my audio in Cool Edit Pro 2.0 plus while editing I watch my final sound levels on Sony’s Last Flagship Cassette Deck from year 2000 I plug in my audio cable in Headphone Jack on my windows laptop then in to Sony’s Last Flagship Cassette Deck Line In Stereo from year 2000, but first I need to have Cassette inserted in to Sony Cassette Deck then I push rec button together with pause button then I watch level metters on Sony Cassette Deck my final leveling mix while I do the editing in Cool Edit Pro 2.0 when I am happy with final mix editing I save it in to 128 kbps mp3 stereo. Then I insert my mp3 audio final mix in to Corel Video Studio x10 together with pictures slideshow or home video slide show then I render it to dvd or mp4 video
1. Excellent video, thank you. 💯 2. Why oh why is Audition not getting any attention! Can't really control anything in wave/spectral view in Premiere Pro. Can't preview what I'm doing to the audio visually either. It's a shame really. Again, thanks a lot, Mike. Talk to them, please. You've got more credibility than us! 😅
Thanks Mike. As always a very helpful video. Im pretty sure everything I know about Premiere and Audition is because of you. Thanks again...
That means the world to me, thanks so much for taking the time to let me know I've been able to help you out!
Mike, the Master! Thanks for this tutorial!
Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful!

That's a great approach, and listening for clipping and distortion is a crucial part of the process, thanks for sharing your workflow!
I would love to see a tutorial on some more of the audio effects being explained in more details.. Your videos have been a great help
I'll definitely consider breaking down some of the more advanced audio effects in future videos, thank you for the feedback!
Dude... thats not just a guest... thats another legend of youtube like you! Unmesh Dinda... photoshop guy! Nice tutorial Mike thank you
Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial with Unmesh, he's an amazing guy and a master of Photoshop!

Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!
let's go sir love it
Thanks for the enthusiasm, glad you're loving the content!
Thank you!
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video as always. What about background music ? What should the -LUFS be ? Is low pass needed ? Can you make a tutorial on that ?
I'll definitely consider making a tutorial on background music best practices, including LUFS levels and low pass filtering, in a future video!
@@MikeRussell thanks. Will be waiting for that tut.

You could have just downloaded the song instead of doing all of that.

Cool edit? That’s a blast from the past.
That's quite a unique workflow you have there, I'm impressed by your resourcefulness in using a cassette deck to monitor your audio levels!
I knew it, it's pixelperfect guy. hehehe
Thanks!
I've been doing this manually on my videos. Dang.
Glad you found a solution, but yeah, automating it can definitely save a lot of time and effort!
I wish I'd have been able to access his wisdom 3 weeks ago 😭
I'm so sorry to hear that, but I hope his wisdom can still bring you comfort and guidance moving forward!
Why is this channel only doing one video a week?
Small team working hard to bring you high quality content and one video a week is what we can currently sustain while maintaining great standards!

I totally agree with you about Audition, it's an incredible tool that deserves more love.
