If Koreans don't like this persons appearance they are out of their minds. This young lady is stunning, an absolute beauty and apparently, quite intelligent as well. Good luck to her in her job search.
Doesn't have to do with attractiveness. Probably just xenophobia. And one old Korean lady who wouldn't hire her is probably not indicative of South Korea as a whole.
It's not that she is not pretty. Koreans, Chinese and Japanese don't like people who stand out too much. They like pretty girls and handsome boys. But it must be within their so-called standards.
If you’re racist u will not see the beauty of someone from another race. They could be the most gorgeous person on earth all u see is that they aren’t the same race as you so u don’t even look beyond that to wonder if they’re pretty or handsome.
And pretty much every country - They just dont have a big media covering it lmao. Oh and the U.S takes the cake, especially since they're being racists towards their own people and each other.
Sadly I agree with you, especially elder people, they are really not used to other race, have never seen in their entire life. I can understand them. They would feel kind of scary from other race, rather than underestimating. I think it's lack of race matter
I lived in Korea for 9 months when I was in the Army, and while living on base isn't the same as living off I still have some experiences I'll always remember. My friends and I would be followed when we walked into stores and none of the Koreans ever were. The other one was when we were riding the train our Korean friend sat on an empty seat and nothing happened, but when our white and samoan friend sat that whole row got up and moved to different seats. I know that we (speaking for Americans) are pretty used to foreigners and people of many different backgrounds living in one area but in most of the world this is not common. Sure we have our problems with race in the states just as every other country does, but this whole notion that we live in an overtly racist and bigoted country while the rest of the world lives in harmony and sings Kumbaya is just not true. We are actually more accepting of different peoples and ways of life here than most other countries. I have traveled all over and it isn't until you have traveled outside the country to non tourist areas that you learn that. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
It's probably because Korea isn't a tourist country (?). I'm not from the states but in my country people don't discriminate others based on race or appearance. Since a good portion of our economy is built up on tourism , so we don't really discriminate people like that since we're used to seeing different kinds of people. I mean of course there is racism to a certain extent in every country but I'm pretty sure that ours is on the lighter side to the point that most tourists want to come back again. And the people are pretty friendly. And I'm pretty sure that most people in my country have European ancestry. You can see it from how common the sernames such as Dias, De Alwis, Rodrigo, Perera, Mendes etc are.
Most countries don't do stuff like that. If they did, you'd hear about it. Racist countries are racist regardless of how you try to normalise it by claiming most are that way.
Truth. I've seen signs in Korea that literally said, "No foreigners." I saw the same thing in Japan. Oh, they're polite about it, but the sentiment is still there. There is still a good deal of xenophobia in many Asian cultures. Mostly because these nations are high homogeneous racially and culturally, and having folks who are different is not common.
YES! I was just talking about it the other day… I have been traveling in Europe and it’s changed my whole world view. I used to think America was the worst place to be for people of color but boy was I wrong! Don’t get me wrong I think traveling is a great experience but I think if I had known how people really are I wouldn’t have been so surprised traveling to certain places. People can shit on America all they want but it is hands down the most diverse and accepting country I’ve ever been too.
America is overly racist. And overtly racist. 24/7. America has just indoctrinated people to think unless it is the most outrageous form of overt racism, that it can be misconstrued as possibly not racist at all.
Japan is very similar. I met a Chinese American dude with perfect English. However he had a very hard time finding a job as an English teacher because he looks "Asian". Super tragic cuz the guy was so nice.
China as well. I heard as long as the person is white it doesn't matter if they can barely speak English. They will get hired over an asian looking candidate who can speak English properly and have teaching credits.
Most of the time in East Asian countries (China, Korea, Japan), people do not want to hire East Asian people as English teachers. They will hire white, black, latino, South Asian, etc but not East Asian people because we don't look "foreign" enough to be an English teacher, even if we speak fluent English.
@@solarlunar689 Idk where you got South Asian from but at least in Hong Kong, that's not true. Apart from the fact that there are Hong Kongers of South Asian descent dating to the colonial era, non-HK South Asians are not considered foreign enough to be teaching English. In fact, people will pull their kids out of the class if they find out the teacher is Nepalese or Indian. An East Asian-passing Nepalese girl living in Hong Kong made a video about this issue years back and spoke about how South Asians are not seen as foreign enough to be teaching English.
Watching these videos I am sure that I am never going to a place like Korea at first it was my dream to go Korea but now at any condition I am not going

It's not bad to just like someone because of their appearance I was not good at English, so I used a translator. Please understand if it's awkward
What the person did was just as the Koreans did, positive or not. They deemed her to be their "dream girl" by appearance alone and knowing near nothing of her personality. Of course, it was all in jest, but we should watch ourselves irl for preconceived notions based on how you look. Looking back, I'm confused on what you don't agree with. You don't agree with my opinion saying they're judging by appearance but then say it's not bad to judge by appearance?@@user-RIPX
Her Korean is so great! The country is actively trying to improve in this regard while it is insufficient, I think there has been progress on this front especially in the last few years.
As a person who's being in Korea, I can never understand why they're so obsessed with whiteness. Many of them even wear white makeup and skin bleach, straightened their noses, and make their eyes larger. You have to love yourself. Otherwise, you will always chase an idea of beauty. I personally like darker skin, but I love and appreciate all colors. I live around and shared apartments with all races. I just love people, mostly inner beauty.
I can understand why if they grew up in a society where it was encouraged for these women to make themselves look as close to European standards as possible. However, this encouragement we put on even people from our own race to look as unnatural as possible definitely needs to stop. We are all most beautiful in our natural state, we should be spreading that message instead of encouraging others to be ashamed of their natural looks.
Honestly people are so dramatic about korea. Sk is just another country in the world where good and bad both exist. I personally live in a country as a foreigner. So i know, no matter what these problems people mention about korea are literally everywhere. We should judge human individually. Not by any country, continent etc.
It is so cool seeing all these people master this language. I don't know Korean but if I was not to see them and just listen to them I would picture a typical Korean speaking. It must be an amazing experience.
Honestly, I just came to realize that people who can't even accept themselves and their loved ones for their natural appearance , won't ever accept a foreigner for her natural beauty. I mean in order to offer love and acceptance to others, you must love and accept yourself first.
Rightly said! A country where plastic surgery is as common as getting spectacles, what else can anyone expect. Though I agree dat unfortunately every country has their own share of racist behaviour to offer!

@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthos it’s kind of like in the states if you don’t speak Spanish and look, Hispanic, because Hispanic people get preferences for job hires. That’s ridiculous and so sad. Unless you’ve been through something like that, you don’t understand how humiliating, demoralizing, & shame-inducing it is. You also feel anger bc you know it isn’t fair. And also sadness bc there’s nothing you can change - you may even believe them a little bit, that you’re not worthy of as much. Sometimes you also feel fear, bc the racist person is violent or maybe they control your future or livelihood in their hands. Racism is a such a blight. 😢
Oddly enough, Koreans faced their own issues. After the Tokyo earthquake (1923), native Japanese blamed Koreans for it and beat many of them to death.

So many race massacres, esp in my home country of the US, have gone unnoticed throughout history 😒. As for my post, it’s awful that people are still dealing with it in 2023. It affects jobs, housing, social status - racism is pervasive.

For them pretty means white skintone and perfect face alignments with doll like figure
Koreans still have varying degrees of xenophobia. Even if your fluent I'm Korean, if you don't look."Korean" you're still an outsider.

Anyone cam speak a language but accepting a foreigner as a Korean is something else.
Such a toxic society 😪
No sensible society.

My English Teacher is from China here in Australia and she teaches well. Judging the knowledge of someone due to appearece is dumb and closed minded.

Darker skin is associated with lower social class.
