The hood springs are removed to prevent that beautiful fiberglass hood from warping under spring pressure, hence the hood prop. Nice touch, I like it.

I had one pre 2000. No springs on the hood brackets, just a prop rod to hold up the hood. Paid $500 for the air cleaner and $75 for a bent piece of rod to hold up the hood. Looked cool but fouled plugs every show I took it to. Props to Rick's Camaro for helping me out. Rick had one with some racing history.

An original CrossRam 302? Now THATS a Z-28 worth owning though a Long Time ago a company started reproducing the CrossRam Manifold.

How much H.P. Does the Crossram 302 make?
I worked for a Chevrolet parts dept in the late 70s and had some contacts. I got a copy of the specs submitted to SCCA for homologation. Horsepower with the crossram 550 HP. Can’t remember the torque or at what RPM. Mine pulled strong to over 8000 RPM though.
I also forgot to mention the HP ratings of the 302 with crossram and 140 cam over the counter. Chevrolet rated it at 490 HP in the public specs. They also did a bunch of modifications to the suspension such as relocating the control arms. All of these tips are in 1 of the early Chevy Power catalogues.
port nut of course the engine was balanced, blue printed and head work. But my 69 could pull the wheels hitting 2nd, no other engine mods. But with good traction bars that hit on the eye of the leaf springs and subframe connectors. The subframe connectors also stopped the very annoying body flex that all the early F bodies suffered from. Many times before that at high RPM the body twist causes the clutch linkage to misalign and lock into neutral gate until RPMs drop.
port nut your 70 probably had about 400, the real rating of the 302 was 100 HP more (NHRA ratings) than Chevrolet put on the specs for a stock single 4 engine.

What cam is in this engine? Makes a difference.
Paul Straney it is the 140. I am very familiar with that idle, I had that cam in mine. And from what I remember, I think it was part of the crossram kit.
port nut loved the sound and power, except no power under about 4000 rpm with the cross ram. But once there, look out.
Mine had the Offroad cam along with headers.

cee dee the stripe colour was either black or white (Z28 only),(other colour stripes other models) depending on the body colour.
