Actually I seen it. Worked several projects in the San Juan Islands a few years ago. One of the coolest things about the ferry ride was seeing the Orcas now and then. Even saw a gray whale one time.
When I was 14 my uncle had a house on the shore of San Juan island. We went out on a Boston Whaler to fish for salmon and a massive pod of Orcas swam through, for like 45 minutes we witnessed them coming out of the water and spouting and slapping their tales on the surface. They were as close as 10 feet from our little boat but we were in no danger. It was spectacular.
In 1916 we went to San Juan Island on our family Summer Holiday. We were lucky to see Orcas and their all games. As if they knew that we were all watching them.
Commercial fishing doesn't have that much to do with it, the real thing killing the salmon is urban development. Places like Seattle and Olympia existing are the worst things for salmon.
No. Youre thinking of the "Washington, District of Columbia" the federal city. This is Washington state which is ironically on the oppisite side of the country.

Such a joy to see them in their natural habitat as intended. Thank you for posting.

YAY!!! Orcas are coming back!!! Most beautiful intelligent sentient beings!
Could home grown salmon be released to replenish their numbers? Probably naive idea but we gotta do something before it's too late.
no
def need to cut back on commercial fishing if that's happening there. Ppl should catch and release. Can they zone the areas creating a salmon refuge?
