Transition from flesh > vegetarian > vegan: I was vegetarian since 1970 and vegan since 1981. Back then, there were minimal substitutions; now they are abundant depending upon where someone lives. For example, near a Trader Joe's is fantastic. Transitions can be very different and much faster now when considering health, environment, spiritual and animal ethics. Best advice: go whole-food plant-based most of the time; allow some vegan junk foods only when you go out to socialize. Naturally, that strategy would change if socializing is the norm.

I did bodybuilding in my 30's.(over 20 yrs ago) I'd do 2 hours/day 6x/wk. I starting lifting at 14 & still lift 3-5 x/wk. I don't have the strength I had, especially my legs. My upper body still responds better & faster, like it used to.

@abjkl Keep the quality of your nutrition is high (greens, potatoes, legumes, whole grains, a few seeds like chia) and by simply eating more greens, you'll lose weight and get LOTS of protein. You'll get more than you need, actually, by quite a wise margin, if you're eating lots of steamed greens and legumes. There is absolutely no reason to count macronutrients, if you understand the fundamental nature of the food you're eating.

@@CHEFAJ Thank you, I see it now! I just wanted a short, direct answer how to lose fat and gain muscle in the same time on vegan diet without measuring everything and looking for macros.

I wonder if he considers beauty pageants to be a sport, as they seem as sportly as body building to me.

There are definitely some similarities between the two! One of the main differences is that bodybuilding requires a large amount of physical training and exertion, which is what makes it a sport rather than just a competition.
