12 EUR IS... about 20 CAD. THAT is correct with the current approx. x-rate. They did not lie to you. I saw a lot of cold cuts and other things there in the buffet BUT if you don't want them then having so little on your plate is on you! Try to look more on the positive things in your travel vlogs.
