    Hey - at the request of friends from my Greek food blog here goes my first recipe in English (this could turn out to be a horrible mistake).
    I am making Greek frappe - the weird ice instant coffee you see Greeks nurturing for hours
    Hope you enjoy

    This is the Greek version of the #dalgona craze which is lovely but more recent.

    Thx so much for your you recipe! My dearest mother was Greek and never told me about frappe. I haven’t heard of frappe until my daughter and I helped make Spanakopita at our church, St Nicholas Greek Orthodox. The leader of our cooking group made us frappe and I enjoyed it so much which we drank while we made Spanakopita.

    Thank you Sofia - you are terrific. You need your own show on THE COOKING CHANNEL in the USA. We'd love it. Your personality would be appreciated. I was served this frappe in a fancy hair salon years ago - everyone was oohing and aaahing - they served it in a wine glass with a little straw. then I pulled my hair stylist aside one day after he handed us our frappes and I said - you MUST show me how you do this. I mean people thought there was some expensive frappe machine behind the scenes. When he showed me how he shook up a little instant coffee and sugar, I laughed so loud he slammed the little door of the kitchen we were in. Don't tell - he said -- I won't. And you tell it so well, I don't have to. But ever since whenever I make this frappe, people continue to be impressed. I heard that Israeli's were making this in the desert when they didn't have refrigeration available. I can see why - so easy! Take care. dsl

    You can also get a milkshake machine, it's the same thing, and a fixed device will do a better foam as opposed to a handheld device.
    Just remember not to keep mixing it after the mixture become creamy, or you'll end up with a coffee froth and coffee flavoured water.

    Thanks for this video.
    I've nearly run out of my Nescafe Eis Kaffee Frappe stash that I brought back from Austria. I can guess that the population of Greece would cringe at the thought of that product, but I like 'em.
    Looking for alternatives, I just can't seem to find an instant coffee that doesn't have that nasty sharp bitter aftertaste, no matter how much sugar I add. I've just bought a can of Condensed Milk to see if that would fix it...haven't tried yet, and don't think I need to.
    I wouldn't have thought that aerating the coffee/sugar would have made such a difference to the flavour. Of course it still tastes like instant coffee, maybe smoother and sweeter, but that nasty bitter taste is now gone. I was thinking maybe I needed a motor whisk for £x or to have to clean up the mess after using a bigger hand blender/processor, nope, just a jar and shake!
    I even get to burn a few of the calories when shaking it up!
    Tried so far.
    Nescafe Collection Espresso, 2tsp demarera sugar, 1 tsp white sugar, ~50ml tap water, ice cubes, milk. Damned lovely!

  • @theodosisstaikopoulos9790
    @theodosisstaikopoulos9790 7 лет назад +5

    your post was lovely. also your English are perfect. the sound. I will just want to comment.. as Greek.. 2 things. 1st that you can put also some ice cubes inside the jar as to shake it. And in that way.. you are stopping when the ice cubes will melt. That will make the foam more hard. And the 2nd is something that i didn't knew... but we learn it with the hard way.. from doctor's.. that is not good.. to put milk to coffee. Even if i understand that people love milk and want to make it lighter.. , well.. they will have problems with kidney after long time. If someone want lighter coffee... can add more water inside the jar.. from the beginning. Or more water at the end. Or take out some of the foam.. and put water after.
    I real enjoy you video. Keep doing the good job.
