When I took an ESL course at College the first thing that my teacher said was “There’s no secret how to speak English, only practice, practice and practice”
Absolutely... Consistency is key. You gotta watch yourself and stay hungry (and humble). People take language learning lightly. It takes a hell of a time and effort to not only learn it but also keep it. Whenever someone tells me they gotta learn English quickly because they need it for work and so on, I just give them the truth. It's a long and windy road, my friend. (And it pays off)

A lesson like that should be of pivotal importance in every English course 👍Well, it isn't though, much to my awful chagrin 😥 In my country, teachers are completely unaware of the problem, which is due to the fact, that instead of learning English by listening to native speakers, they learned from other teachers in my country, who were also unaware of the problem, etc., etc. As a result of such an 'education' system, we have generations of people over here, who desperately need subtitles in their first language, in order to understand what actors are saying in Hollywood movies - and they need those subtitles after twelve years of studying English in school... That's wild, ain't it? Thank you, Brittany, your lesson is really so helpful! 👍👍👍
@@michiv334 Thank you! I’m so happy you found it helpful ❤️ Please don’t be too hard on your teachers. Most native speaking teachers are also unaware of (or just don’t have the time or experience) to teach this type of pronunciation in class. @@EnglishwithBrittany Thank you for answering my message, Brittany. Many of my friends who moved to English speaking countries found themselves unable to communicate with native speakers, and they ended up learning English from scratch again. But, back in the day, they earned excellent grades in English at school! In a classroom, people learn how to pass tests and exams, but they still cannot communicate in day-to-day situations. Thus, teaching English at school in my country (not only mine, I believe) is a really good way to waste people's time, energy and passion, and that's why I bash them teachers so gladly 😠 Again, thank you for a great English class, Brittany, and have a fantastic day! 😀

I'm Brazilian and an EFL teacher. It's also interesting how the sound of 'd' in the end of some words changes when the next word starts with a vowel. For instance, 'watched' (ch-t) and 'watched it' (ch-di/ch-dit). Most of my students initially think I'm saying the former when I'm actually saying the latter. They think 'appreciate it' is 'appreciate' (because the 'e' at the end of a word is not always silent in Portuguese [depending on the accent]).
@@rchrd_sn So interesting! If I’m not mistaken, we’re talking about the “flapped t” sound which changes “d” sounds to “t” sounds in many cases (in American accents anyway!). This can truly be so strange for learners, and probably should have been included in this video. Thank you for your comment!
