51:55 - 'cunningly thrusting his head in' is just next-level of acting from Luke 🤣 So glad I didn’t miss the video version of this masterpiece moment, as I usually only listen on a podcast app.
I love your videos because you spend a lot of time explaining each word and its meaning. This a fabulous work! Thank you very much for this great work!
As an Austrian i am very pleased to improve my english 99% by listening to L. My favourite words are iinadvertently conspicous inauspicious allegedly and unerring..
Man, I'm listening to the podcast you did with the bilingual journalist and comedian and I'm having so much fun (and interest) listening to the pod. What you make is gold man! My hat off to you!
Conclusion: old fashioned English is way easier to learn than nowadays English. I mean to a person who speaks Portuguese because many words are similar, for sagacity-sagacidade, move a muscle - mover um músculo, and they mean the same. I loved this story, as you said, my cup of tea.
I can remember back in 2012 or sth like that, a friend of mine with A1, simple basic knowledge in English had been listening to your podcast every day while he was on his way to the gym. After half a year, his English improved so much that he could lead a decent conversation. I was amazed, wow! Ever since then, I've been on and off the podcast. Good job, Luke!
Is your friend from some other European countries? I think it is tough for people from Asia or other continents to learn English like that. But I have to admit your friends is a good language learner.
@ Serbia. Yeah, we don't have to learn alphabet. I can imagine what it would look like for me trying to learn ur language from scratch, it looks like some alien symbols to me, tbh😂
I love Edgar Allan Poe's writing. And thank you for sharing this story with us!!! Your explanation was fantastic!! From the bottom of my heart. Rosana Baytelman from Chile.
Thank you, I really appreciate this kind of episodes in which you go throughout the story line by line, for it's easier to remember new words and expressions listening to your explanations and examples rather than looking them up in a dictionary. 😊
Yes I enjoyed this short story. And what an actor you are Luke! I was completely enthraled by this psychological drama and didn't realise that the time was flying...
Thanks for the story. When I was 13, I devoured all of Poe's tales that I found in a book we had at home. If you present a Lovecraft story someday, I would be extremely happy.

Thank you for your insights on teaching English through stories. I thoroughly enjoyed them, and they enhanced my understanding of the nuances of the English language.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), "tattoo" refers to a rhythmic beating or pulsing, similar to the continuous sound of a drum. It conveys the sense of something being repeatedly struck, thumped, or tapped; it also describes "devil's tattoo" specifically as the action of drumming or tapping one's fingers or other objects idly-often in an annoying way, or as an expression of impatience, irritation, or frustration. Thank You, dear Luke,
I decided to follow you more frequently, Luke. The story was awesome in your narration. I would love to see another story from a famous writer, or it could be one of Edgar's novels.
