- Today’s guest on Danger Close was described by President Ronald Reagan as “an American hero.”
Oliver North is a combat decorated U.S. Marine, #1 best-selling author and American patriot.
He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968 and served twenty-two years as a United States Marine. His awards for service in Vietnam include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for valor, and two Purple Hearts.
From 1983 to 1986 he served as Counter-Terrorism Coordinator on the National Security Council staff. He helped plan Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, the capture of the Achille Lauro hijackers, and the raid on Muammar Gaddafi’s terror bases in Libya after which he was targeted for assassination by Abu Nidal’s Islamic Jihad.
His first book, Under Fire, chronicles his Vietnam combat experience and his involvement in what would eventually become known as “Iran-Contra.” Iran-Contra was two secret operations carried out by the Reagan Administration in the mid-1980s linked by their financial connections and participants, including a Marine Lieutenant Colonel named Oliver North.
For seventeen years he was a syndicated columnist and host of the award-winning “War Stories” on the FOX News Channel. In 2018 stepped up to serve as the 66th president of the National Rifle Association of America.
He has authored seventeen best-selling books and is the co-founder of Freedom Alliance, an organization serving wounded U.S. military personnel and their families, providing Hero College Scholarships for children of service members killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.
His latest book, We Didn’t Fight for Socialism, is out now.

Wow!! What a life Lt. Col North has had. As a former Marine that enlisted in the 80's, I knew of him and his exploits while involved in the Iran-Contra affair. I did not know that he was such a stud during the Vietnam War. Just ordered an old copy of "Under Fire". Can't wait to read it. This was a great podcast!! You can see and hear the admiration that Jack has for Lt. Col North too. Thanks for posting.

This is a really good interview. For all of those who either weren't around or paying attention in the 1980's this video points out all of the incidents or "conflicts other than war" those of us who were serving back then were dealing with if you were serving in theater or Area of Operations in the East Med and Middle East. Gonzo/Camel/Beno Stations.

What I live about you interviews is it’s just like two old pals talking and you really seem interested in what the other person has to say. I really appreciate LtC North's example using Colorado. The man has obviously been on our highways lately. He's not picking on Colorado. It's one of the far left's most entrenched denials in our state.
Cannabis is a real benefit to many people, but at the same time we have so many completely stoned 50 year olds on the highway that if you don't have "great situational awareness", you're going to get hit, constantly.
