I remember buying 'The Man and His Music' when I was about 17 and it was the opening track.... 'Whoa, there was a woman in the Bible days, she had been sick, sick so very long
But she heard 'bout Jesus was passin' by, so she joined the gathering throng. And while she was pushing her way through, someone asked her, what are you trying to do? She said, if I could just touch the hem of his garment I know I'll be made whole" Wonderful

Sam Cooke was the passion of gospel music and a pop sensation. Having learned his incredible deliverance in the house of the Lord, he then turned his voice outward to sway others with the message in his music. His untimely death left a profound empty echo in our collective souls when his voice was silenced. But we can still hear him. And he too is so wonderful.

Yeah y’all definitely have to do more Sam Cooke music reactions. He was born by a river in Mississippi and moved to Chicago. He sang in church and actually sang on the low, because his parents felt like music was always the devil’s music. So when he first started making songs he actually used a different name at first to even hide it from his parents. Sam was one of the greatest musicians of all time. They even said he was Barry Gordy before Motown. Sam Cooke is such an inspiration in my life today. 🥺🥺❤️

  • @helgar791

Sam made a conscious decision to be the first to move from gospel music, and he took all his gospel rhythms and phrases with him into secular music. Aside from being the first black artist to own the masters and the copyrights of his music, there isn't a pop/R&B singer today that hasn't stolen something from Sam. He is the most influential singer of the R&R/R&B era.

I just found out that it's Sam Cooke's. 😲...🤣🤣...If I hadn't watched a documentary a couple of years ago, I'd still think it's Pop's song. I immediately called him & said "I thought that was you!". Hey Asia and BJ! This Song is amazing! Sam Cooke got his start in the Church. Before he went into secular music, he was apart of a Gospel group called the Soul Stirrers. There's a story on how Sam crossed over into secular music. In that time, Secular Music was the forbidden Fruit, if you were a Gospel Singer. If you sung in the Church, and tried to crossover you were kicked out. And Sam really wanted to crossover and still sing Gospel. So one day, he took the song He's So Wonderful, and turned into a love Song. She's So Lovable. And here's how he attempted to hide it from the church. He Changed his Name on the record from Sam Cook to Dale Cook. In hopes that the church did not detect his " sinful behavior ". But they heard the record, and they thought that was Sam. And the church was angry chile, so kicked him our the church. FYI: I didn't make a mistake on spelling the last name Cooke. It was not spelled Cooke Originally. It was Sam Cook. But he changed to Cooke, when his solo career took off. The Backstory of his death: Sam was a ladies' man and cheated on his wife a lot. The Night of his death, he played at a club and when he was done singing. He Went to the bar where his friend was. He had a few drinks. And at one point he flashes his money, it was a lot Like $5,000. His friend says put that money away. He spotted this Asian Woman by the name of Elisa. She was a Lady Of The Night . He walks up to her, then the next thing you know they leave the club and they are in a car. They drive to a Motel, they book a room. She tells him to a take a shower or whatever. She takes his clothes and runs to the front desk. Sam comes out of the bathroom and he's naked at this point. So the only thing he can put on is a blazer and some socks. So, he hurries to the front desk. And he looks for the lady. Him and the Motel Manager are in a scuffle , and she starts hitting him in the head with a broom. He gets up and then she shoots him. His last words were, " Lady, You Shot Me". It's so Sad. I think The Mafia+Allen Klein killed him. Allen Klein managed Sam Cooke's business affairs. When Sam Had the Flu, he looked over papers pertaining to his record label. Things weren't right. Allen switched it to where Sam was an employee of Allen Klein. And plus Allen Klein has a track record of screwing artists over. Look at what he did to The Beatles. Why I think the Mafia had any involvement in his death is. Two Years prior to Sam's Death, Two Men in Suits went to Sam's recording studio. They wanted him to do away with his record label. Sam said No. The Mafia being mad probably plotted to murder Sam Cooke. Because the Mafia means business. If you want to learn more on Sam, go on Netflix and search up The Two Killings Of Sam Cooke. It tells his life story. Anyways, Awesome Reaction Asia and BJ!

I believe if sam cook had stayed with The Lord jesus christ no weapon that formed against him couldnt prosper but hé walked away from The presence of The Lord The enemy planned for his life because hé became spiritually blinded by The things of this present world The enemy knew God had a plan for his / life /our life and when we play The blind eyes to The things of God an The blessings hé has for us thats what happen either way, all The time The enemy intention is to rob steel kill an distroy so there foreat all times we must be aware that we are no match to The devil, without Jesus christ we are helpless, some where in The bible The word of God declare that.no man put his hand to The plow an draw it back is fit for The kingdom so lets be aware The enemy duty either way christian or none christian hé comes to kill so dont am saying to someone this morning dont gamble with your soul stand you grounds serve jahovah God you have nothing to loose as rough as The road of life gets dont give.up

Sam Cooke is one of the pioneers of R & B or what called back in the day "Soul" because it was music created from the Soul of Black Folks.....And Sam wrote and sang a lot of his music.......and was considered by music critics and the public "The King of Soul Music" He hits his notes so effortlessly.....and you can hear other modern artists today hitting them same notes....this is where it comes from....Sam Cooke......Love me some Sam Cooke......and he had a hard life growing up and dealing with "racism" and the Church." The Church didn't approve him and many others writing and singing secular or worldly music....so they gave him a hard time about it....but he prevailed!!!

Sam was a pioneer in so many ways. He was a gospel superstar and there was a big controversy among the Gospel community when he switched to pop/secular soul music. He was a friend of Muhammed Ali, (they made a record together). He mentored a young Aretha Franklin. He was an early advocate of civil rights. I read somewhere that he refused to have his hair straightened. He was also one of the first, if not the first major black artist to take complete control of his own career. Formed his own record company and worked with other artists on his label. Wrote his own material as well and was a close second to Elvis Presley in terms of record sales for RCA. His was a tragic and pointless end and loss of a wonderful talent.

You were right about Sam Cooke getting his start in gospel music -- he recorded with the Soul Stirrers for quite a while before he got into popular music. One of the greatest voices ever. Since you liked this one, you have to try "Nearer My God to Thee" -- this is not the song you heard in church as a youngster, this is Sam's take on that song. This is a song that will touch you deep in your heart. Every time I listen to it, I wish I had been in the audience (or church) when he performed so I could stand and shout Amen with the crowd.

Please do more Sam Cooke!! He was 17 when he joined The Soul Stirrers. Crazily (and sadly) he was called the first sex symbol of gospel music. Women flirted and fainted at their shows. "Touch The Hem Of His Garment" and "Jesus Gave Me Water" are soooo good. And of course solo Sam Cooke is golden!

Im enjoying your reactions. Especially to the music that I grew up with from the 60s and 70s. Not sure where to request reactions, so i'll try here. Check out The Young Rascals, later changed to The Rascals. Blue eyed soul at its best. " People Got to be Free", Groovin" "it's a Beautiful morning" and a ton more hits from the 60s and 70s. Try 'em, I think you'll like them!

I absolutely love this song! It just makes me happy and his voice is amazing! He sang gospel with the Soul Stirrers before going mainstream! My Dad loved this music which is how I was introduced to the great Sam Cooke!❤❤ There is a conspiracy theory tied to his death! It’s said he was set up and robbed and the hotel manager that may have been in on it killed him when he confronted her! 😢
