That run is my favorite part! And when he said “water, water, water, water, water” at the end. Sam was different and his voice was special. He really made the songs HIS.
I grew up listening to him. Sam singing solo and with the Soul Stirrers were high on my dad's favorites list. He loved how crisp and clear his voice was. Classic technique never fails. Accapella music was pretty much standard in Southern based gospel music at that time, even when there was a piano and organ present. Many preachers were careful about giving God glory and not having gospel songs sound like secular music.
It’s exactly like we rehearsed our group/small choir in school. You had to know your part (and often everyone else’s part as well), and do your job. It’s the best part of singing ❤️
The reason Sam couldn't make the RH Harris riff was because Sam didn't have the vocal range of RH Harris. However, because he couldn't do the Harris riff he created his own signature vocal riff. I enjoy your channel.
My favorites which I still have on 45 RPM is ( You Send Me ) ( You Were Only Sixteen ) ( Cupid ) ( You Were Made For Me ). I started listening to Sam in the Early 50's and play his music every week to this day.
Once had cassette tape of his greatest hits. Need to look for it and I only have a little bungalow I have lived in for the past 44 plus years to rummage through!!😂
I WAS RAISED LISTENING TO SAM COOKE AND I STILL LISTEN TO THE LEGENDARY SAM COOKE I LOVE ME SOME SAM COOKE, AND THAT'S ALL WE HEARD IN MY HOUSE AS A CHILD YESSSSSSSSS SIRRRRRRR. CONTINUE TO REST IN PARADISE ANGEL 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤❤❤
My Uncle Leroy Crume & Sam Cooke were the youngest to join The Soul Stirrers, my uncle Leroy joined in 1956 became the guitar player..Him and Sam went to school together
I’m 65. My parents played this song - The 2 sides of Sam cooke every Sunday morning! I remember it like it was yesterday. I had to be 10-11 years old! The other songs on the album I liked were: - The last mile of the way - Jesus gave me water - He’s my guide - Were you there
I got in to it with one of Steve Perry lover. Yes he good but can't touch Sam ! I ask him could he sing (Lord remember me ) with all the deep down home soul like Sam lord have mercy. He can't do it that's a fact! Him sing that like you thought he was standing in front of God and asking him please remember me lord . With no fucking auto tune. That singing!!!!!!!!!!
Please, brother, make more videos like this, with Sam, Otis, Al, etc. I feel alone appretiating them on my own. Maybe you could do "Nearer My Lord to Thee", live, or "Any Day Now". Any song by Sam will do.
God made plants, then water. That's what the book says. That's the Holy First Page. I went to church every wednesday and holiday with mom growing up. I sat and read the material. Looking at it now, I think about how Jesus and god are also technically the same person, according to the book. This book is crazy as hell, on the first page. The old testament is full of the devil being, like, god's conscience. Like, "hey, guy sending bears to kill kids is pretty fucked up". Anyway, god made plants and didn't even give them water. It's an example of how people can believe something crazy. There is real feeling, there, though. That's the only good thing about it. There is a human desire to be good in church. The music's the best thing about it. It's wild how different Sam was later on in what he was writing about. He always made beauty, though. No matter the genre. One of those dudes that transcends genres. He could always paint some emotional shit with his voice like very few others. One of led zeppelin's cover/rearrangements is him, you know? Bring It On Home.
The preachers were upset because they wanted them Sam was a force to be reckoned with I had an argument with Steve Perry fan that he was better than Sam. Bull shit he worshipped him I asked him to ask Steve Perry to sing Lord remember me he stop texting!
He was so clean and Smooth in that high register. So angelic
Sam’s voice was God sent he influenced so many singers recorded some great music in his short life
That run is my favorite part! And when he said “water, water, water, water, water” at the end. Sam was different and his voice was special. He really made the songs HIS.
he is my favorite old time singer he has such a unique voice that to me brings out joy. its unlike any other voice
Sam Cooke's voice was Truly Anointed. I've heard several talented singer's, but honest to God they can't come close to Sam. A true gift from God ❤
Sam Cooke, in a class by himself and I love the harmonizing of the Soul Stirrers,
I agree fam!! Untouchable!!
This is Sam's 1st song on wax, which was the Soul Stirrers biggest hit to that date.
Amazing song, amazing message, nobody does it better than Sam Cooke. Clean, simple, and ultimately powerful.

Why hasn’t there been a movie made about him? He was the Godfather of Soul! No one can argue that!
Try to watch the movie, One night in Miami. Don’t need no therapy. I listen to the music of Sam Cooke
This was the first song we listened to together! 😍
