OK but does anyone realize that this episode specifically calls out DISNEY and their exploitation of young performers?? In the end it all comes together: when Ashley and the girls ride in to expose Asley's aunt(=Disney) with the MOUSE car that has MOUSE CONTROL written on it and then stepping out of the car, Asley throws her the middle finger (which was by the way one of Cyrus's signature moves after she broke away from Disney). And then they really hammered it home once again when Cyrus is performing 'Head like a hole' about her "shitty aunt" and when she sings "head like a hole; black as your soul; I'd rather die than give you control" they cut to the girls' father talking about a mouse and waving his mouse control device. Very gutsy episode, I even remember creator Charlie Brooker saying that Cyrus gave personal details about her life and that the episode is going to piss people off. Well done! Why is nobody talking about this?
@Cassie I think this episode was not about technology or AI but about how messed up and exploitative - to the artists and to the fans as well - the music industry is (and obviously they called out Disney specifically through Miley Cyrus). I think the technology in this episode was used metaphorically, the Asley Too robots were meant to symbolize that by controlling the artists and taking away their freedom in many ways, they make robots out of them in order to "sell them better". And that the fake, unrealistically perfect facade doesn't benefit the fans either (Rachel humiliating herself after the Asley Too doll convinces her to dance in front of her school). The point was that the people in control only care about money and don't give a shit about artists (they think of them as merchandise) or the consumers. And I think this was why at the end, the aunt broke the fourth wall and spoke right to the viewers when she said "fuck it". This episode was not about the future but the present, this is going on right now and it has been going on for a very long time. At least that's my interpretation of the episode and I think it was great!
