This is exactly the video I was looking for. I check RUclips constantly to see if someone has tested this setup with my specific questions, and its funny that you uploaded this only 2 hours ago haha. I love my GH6. I need a 2nd camera and I don't want to get a GH7 (too expensive). I'd rather get a 2nd GH6 for cheap as B-cam, and one of these focus units for my GH6 A-cam. Ultimately it gives me a lot more options to pair with cinema glass (I also have a set of Meike's), and completely fixes the GH6s AF for when I need to solo op. Needless to say it also lets me use this powerful Lidar unit on any other camera. Thanks for the video!
I’m so happy to read your comment, and to know that somebody out there finds it useful. I’ve just been caught by this wave of joy in using the GH6 again and had to share it. Before getting the Focus Pro, I thought about selling the GH6 for a GH7, if only for the PDAF. But I couldn’t really justify it. The GH7 sure is an amazing camera, but it just doesn’t add much value for me, personally. I need Braw, not Pro Res... And I don’t like the shape and placement of the 32-bit float recorder, as it’s blocking the cold shoe mount, making a Lidar and top handle difficult to mount. And 32-bit can be had externally anyway. I never noticed the streaking issue either or never bothered, but I do think the GH6 has nicer colors straight out of camera than GH7. And stabilization is more than plentiful, especially with this Lumix 12-35, which offers dual stabilization. I then eyed with an S5ii instead of GH6 but didn’t like the body style, among other things. The only camera I could see myself replacing it with is a future S1H successor, but that will be an expensive camera, and I would likely still miss the GH6 with smaller lenses. But that's just me and my concerns - everyone has their own specific needs and expectations.
oh wow, I had no idea! Greetings to New Zealand. I'm based in the UK right now, and Japanese cameras and lenses are definitely more expensive here, too, compared to Japan. The calculation in the video was based on UK prices for new and used gear.
@TimGraf getting hold of a 2nd hand gh6 is hard but panasonics new price is crazy 3000 nzd a gh7 is 4k and the focus pro is 1700 so it's a no brainer .. crazy prices the gh6 should be less than 2k now given the gh7 prices
It’s cheaper if already own a GH6 and you’d still primarily use it for manual lenses. It looks like the GH6 is still holding its value in NZ, here in the UK they’re cheap as chips.
Does this dji lidar support adapting canon autofocus lenses with adapters like for example viltrox or sigma mc-21 or it's only lumix native lenses that will work😢? Or there's a way to callibrate ef lens to work without focus motor with only dji focus pro.
Cheers! I appreciate your kind words. One of the most difficult things these days is trying to compensate for what RUclips's compression does with contrast levels and the shadows - I'm getting the hang of it, but still not quite there, I agree.
Yes, but the point I tried to make concerns the balance of that weight, more so than the total weight. The Sigma lens is half a kilogram heavier. Having the weight further away from the body, in a much larger size lens, feels different than having a heavier body with a 305g lens - not to mention that the GH6’s body provides better grip. With that said, you are absolutely right that the weight-differences between MFT and Full Frame have diminished in recent years, especially with newer flagship MFT lenses. MFT lenses have grown larger and heavier, while Full Frame lenses have become smaller and lighter... I’ve personally used other larger lenses on a GH6 in the past (Canon 24-105 and Sigma 18-35), but I then came to wonder why I don’t just get a Full Frame camera, which offers better dynamic range and low light capabilities etc. And I filmed myself on an L-mount Sirui Saturn in this video, which weighs less than 500g. It's just amazing how things have changed. For an anamorphic lens, that’s super light. This lens would be a dream on the S5ii with anamorphic stabilization… This is one reason why I seriously considered replacing my GH6 with the S5ii, until I tried the Focus Pro. Yet, with the S5ii I would have missed out on the amazing frame rate options, and I would have needed to invest in a Zoom lens that then doesn’t work well with my Blackmagic camera, which is arguably too close to the S5ii for me to justify an S5ii anyway. It just didn’t make so much sense in my personal case. If you ask me, ideally, it shouldn’t be an either/or question of pitting full frame and MFT against each other, but they can complement each other. To me, personally, that only makes sense if I keep my MFT camera as small and light as possible. Anyway, it's a great time of so many choices these days.
@@TimGraf I understand your points but the Sigma 28-70 is only 150g heavier than the Lumix 12-35. I think you mistook it for the 24-70. The size advantage of micro four thirds vanishes if you want fast lenses. It's those f4-5.6 lenses where MFT is really unparalleled in terms of size and weight as most FF manufacturers aren't willing to make f8-11 lenses as they're not very marketable.
You are absolutely right, I did think you mean the 24-70! My mistake; thanks for pointing it out. 150g is really not much more to lug around hmm. Regarding the fast [zoom] lenses, I fully agree. I couldn't bring myself to buying the f/1.7 Leica branded zoom... and there's just so much more available for FF. *edit: There are some fine fast primes available, though, like the 20mm pancake. That was the kind of prime I was alluding to in the video. I used to have one years ago but sold it. Now I wonder is how its autofocus would perform for video, compared to the 12-35 or others.

@@TimGrafyour video is very useful
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that. I'll do a follow-up if I find anything new worth sharing, or I'll just add comments here.
Even a new gh6 and focus pro is more than a gh7 in New Zealand ..in our market this doesnt make financial sense ... nice idea though!

It doesn't work on the OG GH5?
A little bit dark around the subjects (cameras and gear) put some more light around. Great video.

The S5II+Sigma 28-70 weighs only 80g more than the GH6+12-35.
