- Big Taiko time :-) If you want to skip the ambient flute build up at the beginning and get straight to the drumming, jump to 2:53. I think the whole thing is best watched from the start though... I played an even larger Taiko yesterday briefly - about 2 metres across. You could feel it in your chest.

being half Japanese, and having been raised in England, not even knowing virtually anything about Japan, I was pretty much ignorant about Nippon culture. so, when I first heard this, I was shocked at how I felt about it. I gave me a thrill like I never felt before. AWESOME! thanks for posting!
Have you been back to Japan for any length of time?
This is one of my favorites I've seen so far. Love that ending with that yell, then the stomp and the ending pound on the drum. So badass!

I do Kali Stick Fighting, and when I am training I use, pick axe handles to strengthen my arms instead of the rattan sticks, and let me tell you, how much respect I have for these guys those are big heavy sticks and to move them that fast for that long takes some super human strength, these guys are insanely strong and very fit.

The Kodo drummers - MAKI, Japan, Jan. 1- A decade ago, the drummers of Sado Island in the Japan Sea whipped their bodies into shape for the Boston Marathon by making predawn runs along the island's snowbound roads. They no longer compete in the streets of Massachusetts, but the 23 members of the Kodo drummers' commune still begin each day at 5:30 A.M. with a bracing six-mile run. The run kicks off a 12-hour daily regimen of physical training and musical practice that is the Kodo way of life - Kodo literally meaning ''children of the drum.''

Looks like Ondekoza to me. Not many other taiko drumming schools make vast use of a bamboo flute for building tension.
