The bears are free to come and go but human visitors are kept in an enclosed, raised viewing area. Seeing all of the cubs and the interaction among the bears and especially the protective mothers is well worth a visit and a donation.

      It happens. But its extremely rare. In 240 years, theres only been 66 times a black bear put down a human. On the whole continent.
      Minnesota, where this happened, has never had a fatal black bear attack.
      And in terms of nonlethal bear attacks... theres about 10 on the whole continent per year. Possums hospitalize 300-400 people in the USA alone per year.
      Things can always go bad. But the risk is so much lower than youre making it out to be.

    Bears are one of the most intelligent animals.They are very adaptable;so much so, that they can lose their fear of humans, and their fear of other bears.
    They tried this "feeding time" at Yellowstone Park in the 60's and it was a huge failure.
    It is fun to make "friends" with wild animals,but it can quickly get out of hand.

      No its not. Bears have a natural and healthy fear of people which causes them to avoid us. If you feed them, they'll lose that fear and get more bolder with approaching people and wandering into our neighborhoods looking for food which causes more bear/human encounters which is dangerous. The bears will eventually get more aggressive towards people and start dragging off small children. We have to let them know we are not a food source so they'll keep their distance and stay in the wild where they belong.

    • @marcush4741
      @marcush4741 3 месяца назад

      @danelicker317
      Thats all old wives tales. "A fed bear is a dead bear" is only true because of that belief.
      The reality is that bears who associate humans with food come into human settlements... which means more people see them. It increases their risk of car accidents, being confused for a predator by a vigilante parent, or being accused falsely of aggression when it tries to bluff charge its way out of a stressful situation.
      In the last 240 years, there have been 66 lethal black bear attacks on the whole continent. Virtually every one of them occurred far away from human settlements by bears who were never socialized around people. Bears who are fed by people are LESS likely to attack people. But theyre virtually guaranteed to be dead within a short time of making human populated areas a regular part of their life.
      Feeding black bears is wrong because it is often a death sentence for the bear. There is virtually zero risk to the person doing it.
      However... this is also a black bear sanctuary. Very different from an old man just feeding bears.

      In all seriousness we need to ban all trophy hunting and we need to stop hunting bears in general because its not right to hunt an intelligent creature of any kind. If solitary creatures like bears possess the intelligence to call other bears for a free handout i could only imagine that they are fully aware of the actions of trophy hunters. This video of a guy feeding just one bear proves they can spread the word across a very large area. Could senseless hunting be part of the reason why some bears are very aggressive towards people?

      ***** I do not feed trolls so i will only address this once hunting is no longer necessary except to track down dangerous animals that have harmed someone. We live in an age where people no longer need meat for food and besides trophy hunters usually don't even keep the meat anyways. People are the most wasteful, evil, cruel, sinful, polluting, and not to mention the most ungrateful species on the planet bar none.

    At the Wildlife Research Institute in minnesota they' feed bears to gather scientific information on them. In summer when wild food is available out in the Forest they do not see most of these research bears because they have discovered bears actually prefer the wild foods the forage in the woods to what people offer them. They have discovered that feeding bears does not make them "Forget how to find wild food" which has been proven to be a myth.

The bears after awhile would figure out "Hey man, these humans are pretty cool, we see them, they seem happy, they feed us and we feel included" the bears would pass a new Law among themselves stating NO MORE stealing from the humans, no more rummaging in garbage, breaking into homes, pretending to terrorize children when all we want is their Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, bears can eat old food and they never even Sue you if they get a little sick ...........Humans and Animals Unite !!!!

These Bears will end up being 'problem Bears', and likely be put down. . .If there was a way to help them without them knowing humans were helping, it would be ok IMO. Each bear could have a territory of about 50 miles. I live in the woods in bear territory. I teach my children to respect bears. They do not need to think of humans as a food source. What happens when they approach a human expecting to eat and don't get food? I'll tell you. Someone gets mauled.I wouldn't want this guy living within 100 miles of me.
