Today we flew to a small town on east coast of Kamchatka, 50 nm SE of Sheveluch Volcano which erupted after the earthquake on the !8 August. From the heliport we were given own navigation and flew between Koryasky and Zhupanovsky volcanoes and then past Avachinsky volcano - all with the new snow hats. All the way north we had the coast one side and a string of volcanoes the other with a green, forested and grassed landscape below us. A 30 kt cross wind made it uncomfortably bumpy all the way. The views for the helicopter were fabulous. We arrived in Usk’-Kamchatski under an ash cloud blown from Sheveluch which made horizontal visibility poor. We flew low level into the airport to be greeted by our personable hunting and fishing guide, Alexey. Feast your eyes on this scenery. Wonderful.
