    I tried this watch with the metal bracelet today at our local dealer, very well executed and you can really see the level of qualitiy.

    I particularly like the looks of Oris watches. Very handsome. What strikes a person most, it seems to me, is the quality of Oris and their very modest cost. This Oris Aquis Date is a superb timepiece for the price. This watch is on my list.

    I bought the 43mm Aquis Date with blue dial and metal bracelet after watching this video last year. It's now my everyday wear and it's also my favourite watch, even though it's by no mean the most elaborate watch I own.
    It's not faultless -- the metal bracelet's clasp is not great and I still wish they allow me to replace the bracelet with a NATO or leather strap.
    Apart from these, the watch is superb. I don't know how Oris did it, but mine is accurate within 5 seconds a day -- that's top grade ETA 2824 range and almost chronometre accuracy. I have watches that feels cheap, but are in fact no that cheap, and this Oris feels expensive even though it's not that expensive. It's no surprise that people notice it and thought it's a Seamaster 300 at the first glance.
    Also, the watch just feels so versatile -- I can wear it with my suit, and it doesn't let me down when I'm in the sea in the middle of night catching fish and prawn.
    I love this Oris. Thanks for recommending it.

    One of the things I learned in photography with grey objects, to show the beauty of certain grays or blues and greens, you can use a red, purple, or yellow sheet (velvet is great) to show the silvers and gray's precise shading and beauty. Thought I'd share a tip. Grays, blacks, and whites sort of blend on camera and people may not appreciate the beauty of the shading. Great vids!

    Wow, I think that 40mm version a great looking watch, beautifully designed aesthetically. Nice lines and proportions. I love the steel bezel insert, choice of finishes through out, the short lugs and their profile, the case shape, the tool-like crown and guards. It ticks so many boxes for me I'd want one except for that it will only take proprietary straps. That makes it a deal breaker for me. Wish the distance between the lugs was 20mm and we could put whatever strap on we wanted.

      Hi Spartan
      Thank you for the compliments.
      Yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean, I am a little obsessed with them too. I am so glad you like my videos on them and that I am not alone with the addiction! lol What do you feel about the black dial/bezel version? Its a really tough choice, and I think thats why I ended up going a bit crazy and getting two. Oris are spot on with the colour choices as well as the overall design, please let me know what you decide!

    • @DarkSpartan062
      @DarkSpartan062 10 лет назад

      The Urban Gentry
      I actually was going to purchase the black bezel version initially. The grey one caught my eye a couple weeks back and then when you made the review I had to pull the trigger! I love the black bezel as well but the black always seems so common these days. I'm happy to have something not everybody has and has a nice classy look but still rugged. I too am disappointed with NATO straps being impossible. So I'll probably get the metal bracelot as well to add a little variation. Who knows maybe someone will make some aftermarket straps for the oris one day! I hope I haven't missed it but you should consider doing a full collection video. I'm sure we'd all love to see all the beautiful pieces. Thanks!

    I've had my TT1 diver with the same rubber strap and an extra titanium bracelet that I use on occasion for several years now. Between that, a ceramic Sub, and a few automatic Tissots in my collection the Sub and the Oris get the most use. I really adore the Oris. It is my favorite in my collection. I'm hoping they make a 40mm Ceramic Aquis at some point.

    Hi TGV. Both watches are incredible in quality and design. I think, The Oris Aquis 43 is more beast looking and would be worn more in casual occasion like hanging with friends, running day to day errands and of course in pool/sea/ocean conditions as they are design for. But, the new grey dial 40mm one is more classy, more elegant, and could be worn in dinner and some formal occasions. No doubt, it is also a nice piece for travel and can be worn in ocean. I prefer the 40mm version. Thanks.

    Guys keep in mind the 43 is actually not a big watch by any means. At least not on me! It wears alot more like a 42 and I personally would not go anything smaller. Awesome watch none the less in blue!

    Came across this classic, and man I wish the blue came in a 40mm size. I think that is the reason I have begun to "loose interest" in it. It really is a gorgeous watch in grey, but looking at it in that blue... I am not going lie I am afraid to buy a 43mm watch which you are partially responsible for (and THAT'S A GOOD THING). I didn't really think about what size what would suit my frame and wrist size best until some of your recent videos, now it's something I'm thinking about. Even though I want to stay around the 40mm range, I might just have to go for the blue.

  • @toddstrong6902
    @toddstrong6902 8 лет назад

    Thanks so much TGV for this video! You sold me on the Oris Aquis 40 mm with the grey dial. I bought this exact watch, just after Christmas. I've had it for almost a month now and absolutely love it. I also loved the blue color on the 43mm but my wrist is only 7" so I went with this one. Interestingly enough, it's almost the exact size and feel as my first watch the SKX. Would I buy it again if I could do it all over again? Yes, there is no debate there.

    The 40mm is the way to go as the big watch fad begins to fade. On the grey one, the numbers are carved into the bezel then? Any other color choices in 40mm?

    Thank you TGV, mate! Just helped me make up my mind, with this beautiful review. I am ordering the 43mm (diameter) blue Oris. I am always mesmorised with blue. Warm regards. DisabledPrepper
    p.s. you can put it on a NATO G10 - you just need to cut out the part where the watch will sit. So the strap will (unfortunately) become dedicated but that should not be an issue too much.

    I purchased the 43mm version on your recommendation. Fantastic piece for the money. A question regarding the 40mm rubber strap, would it fit on the 43mm? The only beef I have with the 43mm is that massive clasp.

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  10 лет назад

      AJ_ROC C I am so glad to hear you are pleased you got one. Yes, I agree the clasp is a tad over kill in size but a good one none the less. I must admit I do miss the extendible feature that the smaller 40mm version does not have thats its bigger brother has. But they are both such great pieces the rest of the watch makes ups for it. Thanks,

    HI TGV, I have a Cartier Roadster that I was thinking of selling and then getting one of these Oris watches and the Squale 50 ATM. The reason I am thinking of selling it is because it is a fortune to service. I could buy a new $500 instead of servicing it. The bracelets are very expensive and also cost a small fortune. Your thoughts on the Cartier Roadster and whether it's worth keeping to get two or three other watches. I see on Ebay they are going for about $2200-$2400 used. When we purchased it, it was in the 5k range. Thank you for your time and the great videos. By the way, saw your SAS Survivial Book on the shelf. I have the same one in my bug out bag!

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  9 лет назад

      vdenich Hi,
      I love Cartier, but I too am very aware of its expensive upkeep costs.
      I arise you sell it and buy a few really nice pieces, you can buy so much for that money, even a small collection. Keep me posted, would love to hear what you decide to get.
      Are you looking for and type of genre in particular?
      Thanks for watching,
      Best regards,
      TGV
      P.s. Your bug out bad sounds TOPS! Nice one.

    • @vdenich
      @vdenich 9 лет назад

      The Urban Gentry Hi TGV, Thank you for the prompt reply. I am listing the Roadster as we speak on Ebay. If I can get $2,200-$2,500 which watches do you think would be good for a small collection. I was thinking of the Squale 50 ATM, the Seiko Shogun SBDC007, and the Seiko Men's SNA411 Flight Alarm Chronograph you mentioned in a video. Of course, I'd add a few Hirsh straps and some NATO's. What do you think? Your help is greatly appreciated. I have about a 6.875-7" diameter wrist too and like the divers. I'm also getting a Squale 20 ATM separate from the ones I listed above with different funds but may not do that if I get the 50 ATM Squale. Your thoughts on how to spend the $2,200-$2,500?? Let's also see if the Roadster sells. I did a Buy It Now and will see if it sells that way per your recent video recommendation. One more question on top of the collection ideas would be where to order from? Jomashop.com? I'm in my 40's and of course the genre would be divers primarily.

    Hi, you have one of the best watch channels on youtube. I am curious as to what you think of the Oris ProPilot Date. You can get it for around $1000 on discount, and it seems to be pretty unique. What is your opinion of this pilot/pilots in general? Thank you.

    • @Jridgen
      @Jridgen 9 лет назад +1

      The Urban Gentry
      Sir - To clarify, I was referring to wanting to see the Oris ProPilot in HD since I can't find a good 1080p video for it on youtube ::cough, you buy and show :) :: Although I realize you can't just buy a watch on a whim to make a video for a viewer :-) Anyway, I love the fact that your other stuff is in HD. I want both the Propilot date (love the size at 41mm) and want the Oris Aquis date with black bezel. Both seem like top notch quality. Right now all I have is a Steinhart OVM with various straps and like it quite a bit but for my next watches I want a "dressier" diver (Aquis date) and a pilot, so I think this will fit the bill. I cannot afford Rolex or Patek at this point in my life...haha

    I have fallen in love with this watch. Anyone found any reliable site
    selling the 40 mm version of this watch?
    I'm having trouble finding the 40 mm version of this watch in all black
    with the steel bracelet and if I do it is not anywhere near 1K which is
    what I keep hearing people say they are getting this watch for even
    though sites list its MSRP at 1,850.
    Thanks.

    Hey, I got a Oris Tt3 on a titanium bracelet. Do you think it's a good watch for a 18 year old? And what watch do you recommend me to get next?? Thanks!

      Hi Cranking. Thats cool you have the an Oris too. Dont you just love it?!
      I would love to address this question on my next "casual sundays/viewer email" segment.

      The Urban Gentry Under 10k would be my budget. I plan on getting this watch once I graduate university. So I want a watch to show the world that I am a professional but also young and cool at the same time. Thanks!

    I have some questions about these watches. I will definetely buy an Oris diver but i dont know the size and color variation yet becuase i am not certain about the specs.
    My first question: Are the grey bezel versions also ceramic? I have heard different opinions on this matter. Some say its just the blue bezeled one that is.
    Second question: Is the exhibition glass back made from sapphire in both the 40 and 43 mm versions? I have also heard different things on this matter. Some say that the 40mm is made from glass.
    I am really struggling with deciding which size i shall get, and also what color combination i will get, so these details that i ask about is what will make me decide.
    Hope i get some answers, have a good day everyone :)

      You need to go and try it on. You can't go wrong if you do this before buying! Visit the Oris web site and check their store locator.
      Hope it was useful!
      Have a nice day.

    Thanks so much for sharing this video. I ended up going through the same dilemma and made a video about the 40mm Silver vs the 43mm Blue. The silver is a pretty cool option if you've never seen it before. Keep up the great work! Here's a link to my version of your video:
