Rick and Morty is an American adult animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Cartoon Network's late-night programming block Adult Swim. The series follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures. The series premiered on December 2, 2013, and the third season concluded on October 1, 2017. In May 2018, the series was picked up for an additional 70 episodes over an unspecified number of seasons.

Rick took a big risk, relying on government funding, imagine if the project wasn't approved, they still would be stuck there

He probably promised endless resources and money (possibly even weapon technology) in that transmission of his.

I think they thought it was gateway to other dimensions, like the 4th dimension or something, thats why they don’t build a rocket or anything, and why rick says “we possess “forms” your mind can comprehend”,cus thats what a 4th dimensional being says to a 3 dimensional things

When you go back to watch the old episodes like this, you realized just how cruel and hateable Rick really is as a person. In the end, he really is just plain toxic, selfish and uncaring. And though he used to be a good and caring man, before his real wife and real Beth got killed, eventually he did turn into a villain. With all the attrocities he did, all the murders, collateral damage, and lack of respect for harming those in other universes, justifying his horrible actions by saying "nothing matters". All this for his selfish need of vengeance as he obsessed with getting to Rick Prime.

My theory is that the collector only collects people that hate each other. This is why the boulder people upstairs were making so much noise cause they were fighting.
