The guy who dies on the field at the beginning after handing over the map is the author of the tie-in novel for the Finsterwacht album. He has already written some novelizations and tie-ins for the Das schwarze Auge/ The Dark Eye game on which Finsterwacht is based on.

    You are welcome, Mate.
    I'm glad you liked it.
The surviving guards are the bandmembers.
The captain is the singer (Alea), the guy who died first is Luzy one of the backpipe players, the guy who died at the tree is the bassplayer (Brother Frank) the guy who sacrificed himself in the battle is Till the Guitarplayer. The last survivors are Jean the drummer (with the black hair) and Christian the second backpiper. The last survivor is Falk and he playes the hurdy gurdy, he also playes the flute. In fact most of them are multi instrumentalists and can play several instruments. Most of the extras aren't actors (if any) but friends and fans from our local medieval and LARP scene. They also bring their own costumes, thats why SaMo can afford such migthy videos.

We all want the movie and want the show...
In German, we at least got a director's cut, with a lot of cutscenes, instrumental background music from the Album and a narrator revealing a bit more of the story.
I really, really, really do hope that they will release this on English, too, one day, so that you all can fully enjoy it. They got a pretty good narrator for the intro here, too, after all.
Thanks for your reaction. Your joy was contagious.

    A nice reaction! :)
    A bit of background:
It's the first single from Saltatio Mortis' concept album Finsterwacht ("dark watch" or "Darkenguard"), an hommage to German tabletop RPG Das Schwarze Auge (DSA)/The Dark Eye (TDE) for it's 40 years aniversary. The box contains the CD, a novel (one of the authors - Bernhard Hennen - is the one, who dies on the field after handing out the map), a tabletop adventure book (choose your own adventure style) and dice. Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval rock band, but they also mix in different music styles. The second single (Schwarzer Strand/"black beach") and the third single (Feuer und Erz/Fire Ore) are already out, and there are 2 more. There are also (German) making of videos for all of the music videos. Rondra is the goddess of war etc.
Finsterwacht (Darkenguard) are a line of towers/beacons in the mountains of Finsterkamm, as last line of defense between the lands of humans and orcs (those are the creatures in the video) at Heldentrutz, a part of Weiden in the Middenrealm at the continent of Aventuria. Their function is to warn the people as seen in the video. Saltatio Mortis (latin for "dance of the death") is the group trying to reach this goal in the video.
The video took 4 days of shooting, with a lot of LARPers - which is why they have such good costumes. The choir at the beginning and end is from Prague orchestra. Hansi from Blind Guardian sings at the chorus, sometimes alone, sometimes with Saltatio Mortis' lead singer Alea (the blonde, bearded guy).

Thank you so much, my friend! I appreciate the info! I read the game is more popular than D&D in Germany. @@BemusingBill Video is identical, you can see this especially at the choir scene. The mouth movements match the German version, but are not lip-sync in the Englisch version. Both versions are cool lyric-wise, but I like the German version a little bit better. It feels more "natural". On the other hand, the english subtitles in the original Video are a little bit off from the actual lyrics. They're not always correct/perfect.

The one german word that is left untranslated, Orkensturm, is taken from the setting of the TRPG this is based on.
I guess they didn't translate it because they couldn't find one that conveys all the nuances.
A direct translation would be "orc storm", but that sounds a bit silly. "Orc deluge" would probably be a better fit.
Anyway, the Orkensturm is an event in the world of Aventuria that occurs every few hundred years, when the orcs unite and invade the lands of humanity (or rather the lands of all other races, they don't care whether they kill humans or dwarfs or elves).
There is an in-world explanation to it that is bound up with the world's cosmology. Basically, the main god of the orcs choses one orc to be his avatar.
The power of the gods is not endless, so if his avatar is defeated, the god has to start saving up his divine energy again, and the orcs go back to tribalism.
The current chosen one has been around for a few decades, and he has already tried invading the main lands of humanity once.
When I started gaming in the 1990s, that event was just past.

    • @BemusingBill
      @BemusingBill  Месяц назад +1

Thanks for the info, my friend! Sounds like my kind of game! I had a feeling the word 'orkensturm' meant something like Orc Storm just because of how it sounds. I figured it was using storm like when someone angrily storms off or when troops suddenly attack a building or a place hence the word stormtrooper. I like the story line of this game! I'm going to have to dig deeper into this. I appreciate you! 🤘❤️🤘

@@BemusingBill They published the basic rules, a few adventure modules, and a bit of background info in English as "The Dark Eye". The rules are a bit on the crunchy side, though.
There are a few CRPGs. The most accessible ones are probably Drakensang, and its prequel River of Time. They are not particularly new, but hold up surprisingly well.
Or if you fancy a real old school CRPG experience, there is the 1990s Realms of Arkania trilogy. They incidentally deal with the repercussions of the last Orkensturm. However, they are from the early 90s, so not exactly comfortable to play (there are so many ways to die an ignoble death in them, the graphics were already pretty dated when they came out...).
