Exposing to the right of the histogram (without blowing out the highlights) usually gives me better results than underexposing, the shadows look a lot better and i get less noise after editing. I used to underexpose because i was afraid of blowing out the sky, but after trying the first method i figured out that i could easily bring back the details of the sky on lightroom.
@@naturetherapyfilms OMG we have to talk then! I maybe have something of interest to you to help you sell your photos on canvas prints online. How can we talk?
Great video, thanks. Good comments about making photos look different than cell phone photos. Cell phone cameras are so good these days, and to be fair good photos can be taken with them, but it takes a little time and effort to use advanced gear in a way that the result is something you can't get with a cell phone.
At 24:14 she says the highlights are dropped as much as she can. She is using Lightroom so apply a quick and easy graduated filter from top to the tree line and you can easily adjust the highlights without exhausting the range of the slider. There are also a few different shapes you can use for special situation areas. You may have limited yourself however by shooting jpg instead of RAW photos. JPG is the MP3 of photos wherethe file is already truncated and compressed. The detail in the shadows may be gone already but everything is there in the RAW photo. Always shoot RAW.
I was very intrigued by the Instagram part, I found it helpful. I recently joined and wow is it discouraging. Feel like I’m yelling into an endless void of nothing. On top of that I’m afraid I’m going to run out of stuff to post or that my media isn’t interesting, especially since I live in a very boring part of Michigan, so hard to consistently create photos up to standard without making a 3 hour drive out to Lake Michigan... rant over lmao
Let me guess the pro tips, shoot in golden hour, use a tripod, use the rule of thirds, use a foreground, yadda yadda yadda. The expensive filter fallacy is also bs. I use cheap k f combo filters and get great results. Flare is a concern but I embrace it. I only wish i could afford 2400 dollar lenses though...
Lmao minute 25, she says not to blow out the ski. A minute later.... pure contradiction. The curse of the so called pro attacks again. Point is there are no absolutes in photography despite what the pros say. And no, sky replacement is not cool.
Might be good instagramer but a pathetic photographer. BHP is degrading quality of guests. Question should be how many times you replace sky :P :P Her tips for a 3rd grade student :P

It depends, sometimes the highlights are not recoverable, however, you should not be afraid of blown out skies.
@@donquique1 you have to pay atention to the histogram. If you avoid getting spikes on the whites then you can easily bring down the higlights

Dear online instructors, please quit using "secrets" as a way to describe basic techniques. Your hyperbole discredits your presentation.

A presentation with this many errors is an insult to your viewers.
