- The #LegionSlim7 is another take on the thin & light gaming notebook formula, but in stark contrast to many other competitors, the folks from Lenovo have been able to keep the necessary compromises to a minimum, and the subtle gamer looks good, feels good AND performs like a much bigger notebook.

First time seeing one of your reviews - excellent man!
Welcome aboard! And thanks for the kind words!
Asus and lenovo make the best gaming laptops....just wish lenovo would use more mini led panels
Sure if you wouldn't mind paying an extra $500
At least giving you the option would be great!
@@joelconolly5574yeah lol. People want everything but don't want to pay the associated price.
Purchased the slim 7, amd 7840 / 4060 and set it up today. Appears to get quite hot just sitting on the desktop all at the rear base, . Is this normal? Power set to balanced and cpu just at a percent or two load. Graphics set to hybrid mode. My older Legion 5, 4800h, 2060, has no heat at all in just normal use whilst silent , browsing etc. Surely it shouldn't be heating up like this.
My brother
i have the legion slim 7i 2022 and i believe inside 2022 it is as similar as 2023
My legion slim 7i 2022 lid screen doesn't close properly and i believe its because one hi ge is tighter thsn other i i want to reach upto hinges do is need to remove all heat sinks thernal paste fans? can u plz tell me asap
I am planning to buy. Is it good for rendering 3d elements? And which one is the best in this category?
Is it possible to upgrade to 64gb ram?
Which one should i pick Acer Predator Helios 16 i9 13900Hx RTX 4070 vs Lenovo Legion 7 i9 13900H RTX 4070
Please give your suggestion to me
Brother Can i buy this laptop for 4k video editing perpose??
Actually i Don't like mac system 😢😢
I just got my AMD version this week. 7840/4060...It's amazing. To my door for 1250US. Only the Slim 5 can beat the value. This Slim 7 runs circles around my Gen5 Legion (10750/2070S) and can achieve double the battery life. Immediately I added a 24gb dimms (40gb total) and a 2TB lexar 790. Love it. Please update the title to say Slim 7i.
Sweet deal, our sample is in the mail, so we will do a review update pretty soon!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Awesome! Look forward to seeing it. That model would be the Slim7, this one is the 7i, just for brevity. Cheers!
@@J.Wick. how is the battry life for and varient
Hi ya, I've just got the same one, does your get hot on the base of it Just sitting on the desktop not doing anything? Mine seems really hot like I'm running a heavy load. . I have the older Legion 5 4800h, 2060 and that is cold on the normal desktop. This just doesn't seem right with nothing running. Cpu only shows a few percent etc. All drivers are up to date. Power set to balanced.
@@carling5214would you be up for a purchase of you 5? I'd like to get it
his words are true im using this beast
Where did you get your awesome wallpaper from? 😍
Great review and right on time, since I’ve been considering an i7 variant (with otherwise the same specs) for 1999 EUR. I believe it ti be a great bargain.
The performance difference should be marginal, so that is definitly a good deal!
That’s good to hear, I know what my buy will be then :)
Let us know what you think about it once you got it!
Does it suffer from overheating?
Lenovo website says the WQXGA panel with 240hz and 500 nits does not support advanced Optimus. Im talking about legion 7, AMD version. However Intel does support Advanced Optimus with the same panel. Is this true? Any technical explanation for that?
Also, they state that 3.2k panel has more battery life than the other options. Any insights on this?
I am currently testing the AMD model and will look into it.
I can not imagine a higher-res panel having better battery life.
Unfortunately, we have not yet had a chance to test the 3.2k screen.
Do you need the extra cooling of the slim7 VS the yoga 9 pro? With the 4060 both might perform similar, or does the latter one thermal throttle?
I am working on a review about the AMD Legion Slim 7 with a 4060. So I can answer that very soon!
Really excited to buy this laptop for black friday. Seems pretty good and I don't mind gaming whilst charging it. it's going to be my first laptop everr!
Nice, let us hope Lenovo will have some sweet deal for it. I am also about to test the AMD version.
We can only hope 😢that's what am waiting to see
Was on sale a few days ago for 1700
Out of curiosity, how does this compare to the Slim Pro 9i? The Mini Led seems to be the big incentive to upgrade.
Yeah, but you get less IO, less performance and I personally like the chassis of the slim quite a bit more.
But yes, I wish they would offer the Slim with the Pro's MiniLED panel.
Yep. I think that they should offer more Mini-LED options.
Lenovo seems to be forcing potential buyers to go for a "9" if they want a Mini-LED. The Yoga Pro 9i, Slim Pro 9i, and Legion 9i are the laptops that Lenovo has the Mini-LED.
They do have a few other OLED options, but it seems that they have positioned the mini-LED as their flagship display laptops. It's deliberately segmenting their products and trying to upsell their potential buyers.
As an older gamer, I would like to thank you for the valuable information presented in a charming way ❤
This channel gives you hands down the best notebook review videos on the internet. You should start reviewing other gadgets.
I'd suggest you check Jarrod's tech channel which is also a reference in the laptop world with very detailed reviews! But yes this channel is awesome as well 👌
All versions of this laptop I saw on the website only have the GPU at 115W not 140W
is it worth it paying more for the 3.2k screen when it got a $250 difference? I want to buy the i9-13900/4070/32gb variant and it had a price difference of $250 between 3,2k and QHD screen in my country. I'm not any kind of editor of sorts, mostly use it for office, light coding works, and gaming
I would say for your needs it is not really "necessary" unless you really want a display with richer colours or a higher resolution.
But in your daily life it will probably not be a huge difference!
There must be something wrong with the battery life test. There's no way a HX class processor would last longer than the H version.
Great Review Like always! When it comes to Fan Noise. Is this one not loud like Schenker Vision pro 16? This one Looks good with a lot of holes for air in the chasie of the Laptop. And do you think buying the AMD Version could be a Bit more quiet with Fan Noise? Obv Performance lower but Even less Heat or? Big question what is the Most silent Laptop with a strong 32 to 64 CPU?Thank you in advance! Struggling since one Month now! Can Not find it…
You might want to check back tomorrow! 😉
@@NotebookcheckReviews Thank you!
Excellent review as ever thanks! With academic discount and removal of the OS, this brings the price down to €1900, a pretty sweet deal considering the spec is the same as your review unit.
Very much so! I could also imagine that black Friday might make things very interesting!
Did u upgrade the ram I have the same configuration with 16gb
Our european sample came standard with 32 gigs.
Will you review the AMD + 4060 version? I'm curious to see how the battery life performs.
Yes, we just got the confirmation that we will get it soon! :)
@@NotebookcheckReviews I look forward to it!
Why we opted for the new Legion Pro 5 with 7745HX/4070 with the 500NIT panel and 32gigs. Had better hardware upgrades and ports adding Ethernet.
It is also a very solid machine, but some might just prefer the overall smaller footprint of the Slim 7.
I had a legion 5 pro with a 3070 which had some damage, my insurance is considering replacing it with a legion 7i slim with a 4060, how close are these cards? Thinking i should get the one with a 4070
In our testing, for example our 3DMark rating, the 3070 is about on par with the 4060 While both are around 14% slower than a 4070.
@@NotebookcheckReviews thank you for the help
I am dying to get the glacier white variant of this!
Me too! I just asked them, fingers crossed that they will be able to send one over!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Man the white one is already there in UK and Australia but no whereabouts here in India, must it be available globally?
Apparently, availability is limited to a specific margin; I do not think you can get it here in Germany...
@@NotebookcheckReviews you can, I was able to configure that one. But dismissed the option as it was about more than 9 weeks delivery time
@@NotebookcheckReviewsthe color option only appears once you have selected i9 and 3.2k display. But I have found it only on websites of European countries. (don't know why they are screwing up in Asia)
Perfect timing!
I used the I7-13700H, RTX 4060, 3.2K display, (upgraded) 48GB RAM model for nearly 4 month now and really enjoy working with it.
Very silent in silent mode, really good for working in the office.
Also pre-ordered the 34 inch MINI-LED screen, should arrive on thursday! :)
Which monitor?
@@joelconolly5574 Lenovo Legion Y34wz-30
Ha nice! Let me know what you think about it!
@joelconolly5574 the one I was referring to in the video. The 34" Ultrawide!
48GB RAM? You must have added extra memory but AFAIK that is beyond the max memory supported by those motherboards - so please tell me more.
This is the 7i right? I think that’s a different laptop from the slim 7, which has an AMD processor.
Yes, but really the only difference is the CPU
What's your idea about Legion Pro 7i with i9 13900HX and RTX 4070, which is currently discounted at €1850? Is it worth it or I should wait for black friday?
I've been thinking about that too
@@NewkFritz Now the price is even more discounted, on €1650!
oh wow, what website?
@@impcareer4055Lenovo. There was a 22% discount for halloween. Now it's only 10%.
Just bought mine for $1500! 32gb of ram with 512gb ssd.
I could of used an ethernet port and one more USB 3.2 gen2 port instead of SD Card Reader. which can be solved with much faster USB3.2/Micro SD adaptors.
True.
They sold me a laptop they said would support 2 external monitors, it did, but you couldn't charge it while using it. The charging port is the USBC
Which notebook are you talking about?
I need this wallpaper asap
I have slim 7.Very good.
Nice!
How is the comparison with the legion 5i pro? Both specs: 13900H (slim7) vs 13900HX (5ipro), both 32gb ram, both RTX 4070
Price point is pretty similar right now?
Which one would you choose?
Is there a Legion pro 5 config with the i9-13900HX?
The HX CPU will give you more grunt in that regard, but gaming performance or anything GPU-accelerated will be more or less the same.
I would probably go for the Slim, since its a lot more portable without any major compromises.
Yes, the legion 5i with 13900HX is currently on sale in singapore :) or atleast can be configured that way. thanks for the great Reviews! Just ordered the Legion Slim 7 :)
The cookie popup on the website blocks the website, at least if you chose the 1st option.
Do you use an Ad-Blocker? That might be the culprit ....
You forgot the "i" for 7i I was misled I bought the AMD not the Intel
Our video has misled you to buy the wrong product? I am sorry, mate, but I am sure there was a detailed product description in the shop where you purchased this one.
Nice review! I was also in your stream when you played games with this laptop about a week ago. Ordered one right after your stream that Friday. Hopefully the delivery could finally arrive the next Thursday😊
Honestly it's quite weird that Lenovo is advertising slim 7i so hard wheres AMD variant should be better for portable usage when it's unplugged from wall (much better integrated GPU performance and better battery life as well) i thought it's what slim form factor is all about compared to chunky legion pro lineup🤔
Thanks a ton, and congrats to your new machine.
I should get my hands on an AMD version, so let's see what we can expect!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Looking forward to that! I'd suggest 2k panel instead of 3k since it's already quite graphically intensive for 4070, showing roughly 50% more pixels in 16 inch form factor is definitely not worth it. Not to mention the brightness difference...
It's definitely a very complete package. For ~1700 USD, it's also priced competitively.
I will say, however, that for having a whopping 99.9 Wh of battery capacity, the time away from the wall is disappointing, *especially* because this is a machine where portability and overall sleekness are such selling points.
It's just weird, the Pro 7 with an HX CPU lasts another 50 minutes or so, same for the Omen 16 (which actually has a much smaller battery). The Blade 16 lasts a good 100 minutes more, while the G16 lasts a ridiculous FIVE HOURS more. All of these are models with higher-clocked CPUs and smaller batteries.
Feels like there is either some problem with the electrical project, or that they left a lot of optimization on the table in a rush to get it out of the door and it could, if they tried hard enough, be brought up to par.
I do get the appeal of this machine, though. For a "do it all" notebook, this is a very nice one.
Wasn't there a 4080 equipped, 120 Hz touch-enable OLED notebook in the works, by the way? That one seemed crazy good.
I am also not quite sure why the battery life is so lacklustre. It seems like Lenovo got some optimization homework to do.
And yes, the Zenbook Pro 16X Review is already in the works! I did a live stream with it last week:
ruclips.net/user/livePc9pEYAarNs?feature=share
That's true! It *should* have a much better battery life. Something isn't right... Maybe you could check what was consuming more battery...
I have a Slim 5i and am having a similar issue. The GPU continues drawing about ~13 W of power even when disabled (in iGPU mode), meaning I get about 3.5 hours of battery life. I may have fixed it today, but I have to do a bit more testing to be sure. Jarrod's Tech got nearly 8 hours of RUclips playback with my exact model, so I know it can be fixed.
@nocommentarygaming2644 How did you fix it? What was the issue? If true then@@NotebookcheckReviewsshould probably release some kind of correction?
@@NotebookcheckReviews I looked at other reviews of this slim 7 laptop, they said more than 600 minutes of battery life, something is clearly wrong in your test. I remember Jarrod'sTech tested this laptop, it had 626 minutes of battery life.
Legion Slim 7i or Yoga Pro 9i?
Tough, I would say if you value the better display, and sleeker chassis go with the Yoga, but when it comes performance, chassis quality and port selection, go with the Legion!
"dimly lit gaming cave" Are you spying on me?? 👀
😅 nah, I was just talking about myself 🫣
lol, the one you review is not legion slim 7, it is legion slim 7i. Missleading Title.
The AMD version with the 7840HS is the clear winner here tho!
Why? ;) I just got the sample with the 7840HS in last week, working on the video right now ...
@@NotebookcheckReviewsWhen will you upload the video?
I'm really looking forward to it
@@NotebookcheckReviews yeah, how is the battery with the AMD in de Legion Slim 7?
Great, I've ordered one i9 / 4070 variant at a discounted 2060 € this Friday 😊
Only drawback is delivery time of about 1 month, announced by Lenovo 😒
So I'm playing around with my 7735 AMD Yoga 7 14 Gen 8 meanwhile 😁Another beautiful machine if you prefer some light 2 in 1 ...
It's Slim 7i
This has everything EXCEPT the battery life. It's a deal breaker for me, unfortunately (I don't only game, but work as well).
I totally get it, I should get the AMD-version soon, so let us see if that will perform any better in the battery department!
@@NotebookcheckReviews That would be very interesting to see if both are equally specced! Not just for the battery life but the performance and price as well. Is it Ryzen 7940HS?
@@s-plus There's a bug with the GPU drawing power when it should be disabled with this model. If you look at JarrodsTech's i7-13700H vs Ryzen 7 7840HS video, he got 8 hours of RUclips playback with the i7-13700H model, so this can be fixed (the Slim 5i is very similar to the Slim 7i and I know it's the same issue).
The AMD variant is much better
Did you try it? I guess performance will be a bit worse, temps too, but battery life might indeed be a bit better. I am trying to get an AMD SKU right now.
In some ways however I will definitely will give you a strong reason to buy Intel based with thunderbolt 4, you can upgrade and boost your gaming experience with a eGPU when titles demand more GPU power.
Why does Lenovo make such great laptops only to hobble them with inadequate memory? i9 CPU's and RTX 40 series GPU's with max 16GB RAM? Is this a Szechuan or Hunan version of some cruel joke inside a fortune cookie? I am yet to find a powerful Lenovo laptop except for the P16 that supports more than 32GB RAM. And max storage is also just 2TB. Was halten Sie davon? Ihre Einsichten, bitte...
Our european sample came standard with 32 gigs. You got one additional so-dimm so the max. RAM config should be 48 gigs.
This is not Slim7. This is Slim7i...Change the title.
Is that a demand? ;)
The AMD version of the Slim 7 should have insane battery life with that 99 whr battery
I'm trying to get my hands on one of those!
Please DON'T BUY this Legion Slim 7i laptop. You're limited to Windows 11 OS only. Lenovo provides drivers only for this OS version. You can't install any other Operating Systems on this machine. It has provisions only for two RAM slots and two SSD slots. It generates more heat. I bought one by my wrong decision. Now I regret. Please don't buy this Legion SIim 7i 16IRH8. Will Lenovo provide Drivers for Windows 10, Windows Server, Linux ?
:O
