It is interesting to hear Britt say that the money is in the live shows. I have often wondered exactly where the money is in this new era of "download' and "sharing". If the money is truly in the live shows, why don't bands do a better job at merchandising? I am not only referring to Spoon. Very few bands handle merch as a business. It is usually a couple of different shirts printed on some low quality material that is a crazy price and often sold out of sizes. The best merch I have ever seen was Arcade Fire... it was an event from the time we walked through the gate!!... The merch was 4 times the size of anything I had ever encountered. The band came on stage wearing the same stuff that was for sale and it was incredible! I had never seen such a lineup at the merch table after the show!Another great idea was at The Pixies they sold the CD for the show while you entered... wait 15 minutes and bada-bing, your CD was ready and it was the show you just saw!Awesome program Strombo! Thanks!
I've heard some musician say that sometimes it feels like they're just playing live to sell some shirts. That sucks. People are showing that they think music is worthless, monetarily, and it's definitely had a huge negative impact on the quality of stuff that's coming out. A band should be able to live off their music, if it's good and people like it, and not have to pedal junk like a bunch of traveling salesmen.
These guys are criminally underrated, except for those of us that know. Yet another great group, talent out of Austin, TX.
