    When I look around I see old Mazda cars from 1990 to 2000 like the 323 and 626 even rx7 and b2500 but I don't see any old kia .the Elantra, sephia,avella and Spectra are all covered down in someone garage,but this is just my country not sure about others places

    I drove an Optima and a Mazda 6 when shopping for my daily driver. The real difference between them is the driving dynamics. The Kia is numb and dull with a droning exhaust note. You can feel the difference before you exit the dealer lot with the Mazda 6. The Optima has a larger interior volume, but the materials and ergonomics are WAY behind the 6's interior.

      I think it all depends on what you want in a car. I'm a mom & want the extra room, better range & less road noise, I'm sure a single person would want the "Fun to drive" option though.

      I know I'm late but as someone who test drove the Mazda from this year and owns a 2016 optima, materials in the mazda are slightly better but, not much better. Now, the 2018 Mazda 6 is where it's at. That's whe model year where we saw the extensive refresh.

    What's the point? Specs tell me nothing about how comfortable and quiet the car is. How are the seats? How is the dash, instruments, and multimedia? I chose the Kia hands down. For 22K, I got a LOT of upscale options (leather, push button start, remote start, automatic trunk, auto retracting mirrors, heated steering wheel and seats, etc etc.) It's quiet, comfortable, and not loud and buzzy like the 6. The 6 does drive sportier, but hey, these are mom cars and my wife couldn't care less.

      Thank you for this review. I am a mom looking at these 2 cars. After driving a minivan the "fun to drive' option is a bit tempting, but I commute pretty far so noise & comfort and gas mileage are all more important than "fun to drive". Which trim option did you choose?

    Hi Dave, I enjoy these videos a lot. One thing I'd suggest is to combine fuel tank & range into one line as well as width/length in order to give yourself more space. Will make it easier to read I think and these pairings go together naturally. Keep up the great work!

    Kia - Quieter. Mazda 6 - Louder.
    Kia - No.2 in 2017 Consumer Reports Reliability(up from No. 3 previous year). NUMBER 1 in J.D. Power's. Mazda - No. 12 in CR (down from No. 6 previous year).
    Kia - Ventilated seats possible. Mazda - Nope, can't do it. We don't know how to put a duct in and some holes in the seat leather.
    Kia - Balanced dynamics now - will improve soon with Albert Biermann from BMW M division in coming years to lead N divison for Hyundai and GT division for Kia. Kia says - Our customers wanted, so, we found the best man for performance that we could!!! If you want it ASAP, buy the soon-to-be Stinger base model instead - comparable to Mazda 6 prices and blows the doors off the Mazda 6. Mazda - How do we make it thinner and lighter? And use less materials??? --- BUT let's get real people -PERFORMANCE WISE-THESE ARE FAMILY SEDANS!!!
    Kia - Warranty - YES. Mazda - let's keep minimal warranty as long as possible like all the other manufacturers even though we seem to be on the verge of bankruptcy every year.
    Kia - Heads up display - let's put the best most crisp in that we can find. Mazda - Eh, just stick a piece of plastic right about there.
    Kia - Dealerships everywhere. Mazda - Let's stay small and not take risks.
    Kia - Engines let's give our customers a choice. And try new technologies like GDI for fuel efficiency. 245hp sounds good. Mazda - Eh, we'll turbo it up a bit and change it up only when everyone complains so much we can't stand it anymore. Ehhh, cut that piece off, to make it lighter, CLUNK! That'll make it faster. Let's give it a marketing term - Skyactiv!!!
    Kia - Less rust issues. Mazda - Known rust buckets.
    Kia - Sales - 120,000-150,000 Kia Optimas sold per year in USA. Mazda - 40,000~50,000 Mazda 6's sold per year in USA. And last year one of the poorest selling family sedans. Consistently the car every youtube car reviewer says "Why doesn't this car sell well?" Yeah - well - duh.
    Kia - Let's put in as much options as we can per every dollar to beat our competition. Mazda - We'll put in what we have to, to keep up with our competition.
    Kia - Along with Hyundai the 3rd largest Car manufacturer from near nothing in a couple decades, and growing. Mazda - We may go bankrupt tomorrow. Quick, we sold only like a 1000 Mazda 6's last month in USA, we gotta stick in a turbo engine for next year or we will lose to Honda Accord and Camry and Optima and Sonata when all of them will have 250HP engines!!!!
    Kia - let's try to beat the industry leaders, and beat our past perception of unreliability; Let's beat NOT ONLY Honda and Toyota, but BMW and Audi and MB in performance and luxury too. If we fail, we will still have learned to make better cars next time!!!
    Mazda - Eh, let's keep marketing via our lying dealers that we have good customer retention when we actually have some of the lowest customer retention in the industry. (Yeah, they do. Look it up.) Let's use fancy words like Skyactiv that none of our dealers know how to explain what it is... and no one in our company can explain either for that matter...
    Don't get me wrong - I REALLY want Mazda to do well, but when they didn't make a Speed3, or a Speed6 as their customers wanted because they are now "too grown up" a brand and thinks those cars are too immature, and keep chasing the stupid rotary engine they can't create and not listening to their customer base... got rid of their brand names for alpha numerical names when customers said not to... Spent nothing on increasing their dealerships... Acts like a turtle in addressing NVH and Rust problems which are the number one and two complaints Mazda owners have with the vehicles while Kia bends backwards to improve every year in every way they know how???? No contest which car company I want to support... Stop the badge snobbery, people. Look at facts.

    Build quality on the Mazda is arguably best in class. Especially the interior. More options may impress the typical American car (GM, Ford) buyer, but mechanical reliability comes from the opposite philosophy... KISS. Add to that, Mazda gives me a manual on ALL trim levels, not just base. If you enjoy driving, a manual trans is essential. Throw a turbo on that 2.5 (already on the CX-9 I think) for the 6 and the KIA is not only outrun, but outclassed.
    I like the KIA, but the Mazda is better built car.
    Numbers don't tell a story, they skew to a conclusion.

      Clint Cohen Very good point but I do notice this optima is a tweaked 2011.
      So it's reliable and a staple and well known whereas the Mazda is a redesign.
      Of course the Kia should win since its been around in this skin longer but I stand by Mazda and the 6 as the better car since Kia is stagnant in design and layout.

    • @ingram1225
      @ingram1225 7 лет назад

      Clint Cohen I had a 2010 mazda3 for 6 years and have a 2011 Mazda CX-9 currently. no reliability issues at all and especially no electronic issues. I question your bias towards Kia as being superior. shall we talk about Kia's history with wheel bearings, brakes with rotors needing turned at just 10k miles or their own light bulbs needing replaced prematurely? and we didn't even talk about direct injection engines and the extra maintenance they need. your call. I will set both are beautifully designed and would not mind owning either.

    • @cdkx655
      @cdkx655 7 лет назад +2

      Optima is in its 4th generation, it was redesigned for 2016, so it's not the 2011 cycle (Granted some changes are subtle, but it wasn't mid-cycle refresh, but a full redesign). In terms of reliability, I've always read better things about the kia, which also has the better warranty in case there are problems. I've never owned either, but both are on my short list to test drive when I'm looking for a new car next year. I will say I wish the mazda had a higher engine option (Particularly when you spring for higher trims), it seems under-powered on paper but I'll reserve judgment until I've driven it.

The optima is more comfortable though and sportier than the Hyundai especially in turbo guise but i would hold off until the Kia Stinger arrives as if nothing else the price of the Optima will plummet. I'm look at cars 2-4 years old with 25k-75k and the Optima is around 13k vs Mazda 6 15k but many of the Kia are the LX. Not sure why that is, maybe there are less Mazdas. Many more Mazdas show up on carfax with accidents too. I think the "fun to drive' option attracts less safety conscious drivers.

    Who would buy a 2017 Optima when the Kia Stinger is soon to release though? The Optima is a far better car. It has even been put against the Mercedes C class but it is more expensive than the Mazda.

    • @TimothyWilliams-ce3rf

      DEVILTAZ35 good question, someone who's in college, and needs just the basic transportation, someone who doesn't want to spend a lot on insurance or gas and mainly want the dependability that Toyota is known for.

    • @DEVILTAZ35
      @DEVILTAZ35 7 лет назад

      Why a Camry though , there are far better cars . Even the Subaru Imprezza is a far better buy than the Camry. There is a new Camry coming though which is pretty much a total redesign however it actually looks worse than the current one and the sportier models have 4 tailpipes which really doesn't suit a Camry that is not really sporty at all.
      It does apparently however lend alot more from the lexus platform so it will be alot more comfortable and better sound proofed than the current one.

    • @TimothyWilliams-ce3rf

      DEVILTAZ35 well, if it was me, I love the Camry, I love the Mazda 6, I love almost all of them, except the Accord, my dad has a 2013 Accord, and I hate it, it would be better if it didn't have the dual screen set up and the CVT. I'm just a Camry fan boy, but I would probably pick the new fusion over the redesigned Camry.

    • @DEVILTAZ35
      @DEVILTAZ35 7 лет назад

      Fair enough , they don't sell the Fusion in Australia unless it is the same or similar to a Ford Mondeo? I love Subarus over Mazda any day anyway. The 3.6R is far better than anything Mazda produce. However i am more interested in the Twin turbo Kia Stinger which is set to really shake things up with Rear Wheel Drive, 19 inch 35 series tyres plus it includes 5 mode electronic suspension as standard. The new Hyundai version is out next year too though it could be as much as 10k more expensive than the Stinger. Unless Subaru plan on releasing a Legacý/Liberty STI turbo the Kia would be the one to get for this price range. There is an AWD Stinger in some markets but it's not offered in Australia worse luck.

    • @DEVILTAZ35
      @DEVILTAZ35 7 лет назад +3

      Why when it's in every inferior to the Kia? Though the best Kia is still to come. The Stinger is the one to get which is streets ahead of the Mazda but even the Optima is far better built using far better grade steel than the mazda. Even the suspension is far better in the Optima. For one thing the Kia also looks stunning . The mazda has a butt ugly front end grille that ruins the whole look of the front which is otherwise nice. It looks more like something you would expect on the CX9 but not a sedan. The Kia is far better looking.

    You pay slightly more for the Kia, but in the end, there's more standard features and the specs go to Kia. But I'd chose the Mazda because the windows on the Optima are very small and visibility isn't the best. The Optima gets better interior room because the floor is very low, yet the windows are still small. It's like sitting in a bucket.
