Why nobody uses the Clone Jutsu in Naruto? There are several clone jutsus in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden such as the Shadow Clone Jutsu, the Wood Clone Jutsu, Water Clone Jutsu, Lightning Style Shadow Clone. But people overlook the most basic one: The Clone Jutsu.
This jutsu was taught in the Ninjas Academy of the Leaf Village and Naruto had to perform that jutsu in the test to become a Genin. The clone jutsu is actually a genjutsu that creates hologram-like dopplegangers that can be used as diversion during fights. But only a small number of characters use the jutsu. Let's find out why.

It was showed that this jutsu is relying on your mental capability to use it, because you need to move it yourself, like a doll.
So, maybe it's not draining your chakra, but it's draining your ability to focus.
Basically sakura is one of few that was mentally challenged enough to use it in real fight.
And lemme remind you that she has a very strong mentality, and yet the best she can do is two/three of those, while still retaining mental capability to fight.
So adding that information into the mix, now you know why it's an e-rank jutsu. Even in its mastered version, it's barerly usefull.
Also even a noname ninja, that is there just to be beaten up, can have air-nature jutsu.
This shows, that even nonames doesn't stop at e-rank jutsus.

One very underutilized technique was Itachi’s explosive clones. If Naruto started using that he would barely have to do any work. Would love to have an explanation on how it works

@@dannylopez8059 He used fire nature, it ain't exactly very easy for Naruto. It won't work on people like Hidan and Kakuzu bcuz Durability, and it won't work on Pain Sasuke or Tobi bcuz of their visual prowess. Nonetheless a kamikaze clone is useful ability to have.
The byakugan under normal circumstances can tell which is a shadow clone, Naruto was smart and split the chakra evenly. That's y he couldn't tell
He even baited Neji to attack the clone from the far back thinking they were protecting the user.
This actually contradicts the jutsu's rule that a shadow clone cuts the user's chakra in half, and each aditional one cuts that half in half again. So the fact that naruto can make a hundred clones and conjure giant rasengans for each one means that 1% of his chakra should still be vastly more than 100% of pretty much anyone else's chakra reserve.

This simple jutsu. Is underrated.
Sometimes a simple distraction in a fight that normally would last minute.
Having ten illusions. Is actually quote good. Sometimes drawing vision away from the real one could give a second
Even one second of visual distraction.
It can actually change the tide of btl real fast when a lose can be measured in seconds.
If I were a ninja in the Naruto verse I would basically never really go through any man made path myself, but always move parallel to my clone who would be on said paths. I'd also always create one before an interaction with somebody cause you can't trust anything in this damn universe.

The clone justu is useful but there are just more effective justu to use instead. Under certain situations a character just wouldn't bother using it. Like if the person went up against a sensory type or character who has big AOE moves.

I always wondered why Kishimoto never had an occurrence where a character used both regular clones and shadow clones to throw off an enemy? Seems like a perfect way to use of both techniques to discombobulate people without a dojutsu. It's would essentially be a guessing game seeing what attacks were real or not.
The counter would be a neat giant aoe :D

I can just imagine the enemy noticing that multiple of the person interact with the environment and assuming it's all shadowclones when 2/3 are normal clones to preserve Chakra

The clone jutsu is classified as a ninjutsu google it for 5 seconds. Genjutsu is explained to disrupt your chakra flow/influence your mind you can't cast it on objects like in your rewrite it makes me so mad xD and if you cast a genjutsu on your self it only affects your mind and not the mind of others
I think it would have been really satisfying to see Naruto use the clone jutsu during one of the bigger battles towards the end of the show in conjunction with his shadow clones.
All his enemies know he uses shadow clones, so hiding a few extra clones in there for a tricky surprise attack would have been great to see
Plus, it would make for a nice moment to show Naruto had finally mastered his basics. Not being able to do the standard clone jutsu was a big deal for him at the start.

What tactical advantage would there be in using the basic clone over the shadow clone? Shadow clones can already act as a distraction and their weaknesses are cancelled out by just having more chakra.
@@Appletank8 Naruto using 100 shadow clones, each of which then also uses a clone so it looks like he has 200 shadow clones total.
One throws a punch, enemy goes to counter but they go right through it because it’s a regular clone. Second one comes in for a punch, suddenly it’s a shadow clone and the bit connects. The shadow clones and regular clones take turns attacking in such a quick succession the opponent doesn’t have time to properly react and figure out what is it isn’t a clone.
Or a clone going to use rasengan against a rinnegan user, so they go to absorb the jutsu only to have the clone pass through them and get hit from behind with a rasenshuriken.
There are ways to make it work, however my main point is just that narratively it would have been satisfying to see Naruto come full circle with his jutsu.
@@xero1048 My thought was an extra weak shadow clone that poofs into a giant cloud of smoke could probably work just as well as a totally illusion clone, Naruto could just make 200 Shadow Clones, he probably has the reserves for it.
Forming a fake jutsu is probably harder with Shadow clones I'll give you that.
My guesses for your next video title are "Transformation: The Most Underrated Jutsu In Naruto" or "Transformation Jutsu : The Most Broken E-Rank Jutsu in Naruto".

Dynamo what 4:52 what are you talking about it's specifically shown that the sharingan has the ability to tell the difference between the real person and a shadow clone multiple times in series.
It's the byakugan that can't tell the difference because of how evenly the Chakra is divided amongst them.

I’ve liked the idea of mixing the clone and substitution jutsu as a sort of makeshift kamui/flying raijin. definitely makes you seem stronger than you actually are, at least.
What like using a clone as a substitution rather than a log? What if a shadow clone used the OG as a substitution? Can you use people as a substitution?
Yeah, something like that. Idk if it would be possible with a regular clone but definitely with a shadow clone, and the extra effect of needing to get hit probably won’t be an issue since Minato typically used flying raijin so last minute anyways. Also I think you can use people as a substitution but you need to be able to speed blitz them, like kakashi with kid Naruto.
Naruto had the biggest advantage that most shinobi's didn't, he could and did abuse that advantage. The IQ pool of many of his mirrored images made up for the lack of his single mind IQ or exprience(again a group of his mirrored images could make plans independent of the user or a group of clones). so the fact everyone thought he was unpredictable or surprising to others is a twist in prospective. He had multiple ways of having chakra "pools" there was Sage mode (His Shadow clones had the advantage of gathering his sage chakra infinitely but it was NEVER OVERPOWERED IT HAD LIMITS) then was nine tails form (Kurama) again had limits, and then his normal form (UZUMAKI CLAN BLOODLINE HUGE CHAKRA POOLS AND LONG LIFE EXPECTANCY I also should also mention his father bloodline was never dived into just his mothers side) . NARUTO was weak against genjutsu (using this weaken the user either chakra or physically) just like his teacher. His later lessons receive from Kakashi during the training of adding elements to his chakra aka tailed beast bombs with an element aka rasengan/wind added majorly to his capabilities and better efficient uses of clones like the passing of intel between clones (Can't forget he knew summoning jutsu as well). and I don't think there was an episode about yin (Dark) & yang (Light) so leave that up for your imaginations to run wild in.
3:40 because the weaker variant can't do anything.. the clones you seen make by Sakura and the dude with mask at the beginnings of the part 1 are fake clones ghost like, just for distract enemies who cannot distinguish them from the solid body.. pretty much all those low-level ninjas. I don't know if this is a plot hole, but I remember that Sasuke once told naruto he can tell which one is the original with his sharingan when fighting in the valley of the end (In classic naruto)

This raises interesting questions about ocular jutsu. Do the illusionary clones look invisible or do they just look different from a regular person? Could I obstruct a Sharingan users vision with a clone based wall of chakra, or could I send signals to allies that can't be percieved by someone who "sees through genjutsu?" One can't spell sensitive without sense after all. It should technically be possible to overload an ocular jutsu users senses in a way that wouldn't affect those that can't see chakra.

Clone justsu into body flicker into any taijutsu would be a very easy mix up. Add in elemental or shadow clones, you have an attack that could literally come from anywhere. Do it on a high level opponent with any terrain changing jutsu (like mud wall, exploding water Shockwave), audio genjutsu, or even just headhunter. Your opponent could not and would not trust their eyes. Especially if they aren't Uchiha.
Don't forget to add substitution jutstu in for good measure.
Clone+body flicker+substitution+taijutsu= the best noob combo for most ninja in the verse! No wonder that's all the academy really even teaches.
Sure, it wouldn't do jack against Kage or S-class shinobi, but against everyone else? God Tier.
Personally I'm a bit miffed we didn't see it used more often in shippuden. I would have loved to see someone become kage level with just E ranked jutsu and taijutsu.
I guess Lee counts?... Eh maybe not, he only ever used tai jutsu and the 8 gates.
Chances are, you'd be facing someone with the same idea with slight variation(chakra nature or clan specific technique).
So basically its another example of a simple E-rank jutsu being actually incredibly OP if used well.
I've always said a good opportunity for character development would be Sakura and Lee training together/learning from each other (Lee training chakra control and Sakura training taijutsu). Lee finding creative ways to use entry level jutsu in conjunction with his taijutsu would be really cool.
Using a single genjutsu might make them waste time throughout the fight trying to figure out if it's really genjutsu
The funny thing is, I'm not sure that Naruto ever even learned the regular clone jutsu. Since his massive chakra reserves make the downside to shadow clones (dividing one's chakra) a non-issue for him, he never has any reason not to use shadow clones instead.
Maybe because he split his chakra he was able to use Shadow clones. One of the reasons he had trouble with most jutsu early on is because he could not get the energy ratios right and had to try to brute force it with his chakra, using way more than was needed and not getting anything of worth. An example was his attempt at regular clone jutsu.
Naruto has so much chakra he could literally make so many normal clones, that the person would be blinded. They would literally only see an orange wall in front of them.
He does know regular Clone, it's a basic skill all Genin are taught at Konoha. He's known for never doing it right though, and probably has never made a successful Clone before the Shadow Clones.
@@GweiTheLeafChild But that’s why he failed his genin test. He couldn’t do a clone jutsu. But then he learned shadow clones instead and Iruka passed him because that’s a MUCH more advanced technique. We’ve literally never seen Naruto do a regular clone.

This is why I want side stories within the Naruto universe to get made. I want to see other characters from different villages and their stories. It would give more chances for more jutsu to be used as well.

The fact that Sakura was known for spamming E-level jutus early on says a lot about her character, and I don't just mean that she was weak. She was the typical example of a book-smart character. Literally all she knew how to do is what she studied at the academy.
Well I mean, she was also one of the only characters to come from a family of normal people. Like for as many classmates as she had a bunch of them, atleast ones who got names and dialogue and fights, were from families that were established clans that had likely been taught both the basics and their unique family jutsus from a very young age. By the chuunin exams Shikamaru's trio was using their family jutsus at a level that could be called a casual action for them, Sasuke was taught how to breath fire at like 6-7. Sakura for all intents and purposes was a normal person surrounded by people brought up to be ninjas. Naruto himself wasn't in too much different of a position there, not having a family at all.

Frankly, even using a Clone to do fake hand signs while you do real hand signs would be a handy thing to be able to do in the midst of battle.
Or even just fake what you’re actually doing. Fake arms, hide your position, fake weapons. Hell, just throw a clone at people’s faces to blind them.
Hypothetically Nagato has Shadow Clone Jutsu via Pervy Sage writing that book as Nagato being the og protagonist. Imagine the guy who choke slammed the strongest Jinjuriki coming at you from both sides.

None of the Otsutsukis can tell the shadow clones from user. Only Freaking Madara Uchiha could tell which is the real person(except bIack zetsu who Madara thought he was his will and clone).

But the way she used it was highkey pretty cool. Apparently making them actively move and copy a user's actions takes precise chakra control, so the fact that she made her 2 clones coordinate a fake attack is impressive. I would imagine it's like coordinating hands to play an instrument, taking a fair bit of practice even if you are naturally gifted.
Not to mention that we rarely see clone-coordinated attacks from anyone besides Naruto. And sometimes he sucks at it because they just run in one at a time.
sakura using the most basic clone jutsu and substitution was enough to have the enemy with a flashy and strong jutsu at her mercy, her "fight" is actually very good and actually feels like a ninja fight, if only more fights were like that. oh and a fight with more competent ninjas because sakura have a free shot and couldnt kill zaku, she stab her kunai in the arm instead of her fucking neck

I guess she's less disappointing in a way because she had nothing going for her to begin with, but Lee and Neji were awesome and memorable characters who all but disappeared from the story after Part 1. Truly a tragedy.
The bunch of clones that kakashi made were stated to be normal clones unlike naruto's, and kakashi explained how he did'nt have enough chakara, so kishimito did'nt have bad writing, you just don't remember bro

Yes the hand sign he used symbolized shadow clone but he didnt use shadow clones, it was just to fool the enemy, like he said in the video it doesnt use a lot of chakra. skilled ninjas tend to use less hand signs when they have good mastery over a jutsu and well its an E rank

No, what he said is that he only had the chakra to make the clones... but if they actually had to fight with that amount of clones he'd probably get clapped because each has essentially 0 chakra.
He actually made the clones, they were just worthless because he doesn't have the chakra to actually split and put them into clones making them effectively worthless. Most people can use multi shadow clones, but it's been explained many times that no one uses it because they don't have enough chakra to.
There are some characters that would be so broken if their used clones. Konan would be broken, deidara, ohnoki, damn obito, minato. These characters that have fast speed flying powers or just really destructive attacks.
The thing is, make one shadow clone and you've lost 50% of your Chakra. And they're gone in a single hit. No wonder it's a forbidden jutsu.

I don't remember other elemental clones being tougher. But it's been years since I last saw Naruto, so it might've slipped my mind.

But Ohnoki's jutsu is a Kekkei Touta. Release of three elements at once. Only two are known. Muu and his student Ohnoki, who's so distrustful that he never taught anyone.
Why would they use deception when their jutsu can atomize anyone?
I used to play D&D and my rogue had a skill that allowed him to make a single clone that could not fight, an illusion just like the E-rank jutsu. DUDE, that got us out of MANY situations that we were basically about to die. Display a decoy, get time to recover/organize srategy/runaway. It was basically a very op table turner lol

I think it was mentioned here that the shadow clones Kakashi made only had a miniscule amount of chakra divided among them. Remember clones can make their own clones and those secondary clones have their chakra divided even further.
I don't believe Naruto even learned to use the clone jutsu properly, instead just spamming the shadow clones every single time.
Ebisu explained this to Naruto before the appearance of Jiraiya, Naruto at that time had bad control of chakra and he wasted so much to summon one simple clone, however due to his massive reserves he won’t even notice. I imagine later one he was able to figure out how to have a better control.

@@aarohalme1020 I think he managed to achieve control once he was able to handle the Chakra from the Kyubi after knowing Jiraiya. At some point of the anime he started to use more Justus that needed more chakra like the summoning (when trying to invoice gamabunta) and the Rasengan while using the Shadow Clones, so it was required to him to control more his chakra, even if he counted with a large chakra supply.
@@Havs122 Yeah, his control certainly improved a bit as the story went on, though he still never needed to learn the jutsu anyways since he had a better version regardless.
@@aarohalme1020 I think that at the end it was something that he mastered once his control over chakra kept improving. He did learn the Justu at perfection (otherwise he would not be able to create the clones), however his performance was bad considering the amount of chakra he wasted.

Your source on the clone jutsu being a genjutsu is what exactly? because literally every source I know states it's a ninjutsu. there are similar genjutsu that create illusions like that, but the basic clone jutsu is a mirage, not an illusion.
edit: and the one you showed when you said it was the mist servant jutsu, not the clone jutsu. even more, once the genjutsu of those Ame-Nin is dispelled, they use the clone jutsu afterward, EXPLICITLY calling it a ninjutsu.
Yo. I think I've got a better headcanon for Kakashi's shadow clone feat. Basically, the more clones you make, and the more complicated the assigned task, the more chakra it uses. This is directly confirmed during Naruto's clone training for the rasenshuriken. When he first started, all he had to do was split a single leaf, so he was able to make hundreds of thousands of clones. (as many as there are leaves on a tree.) But once he had to mix wind element with the rasengan, he was limited to only 200. The complexity of the task was specifically sited as the reason he had to lower the number of clones. So my headcanon is that Kakashi was able to make that immense number of clones because all they had to do was stand still. Low complexity, low limit on the clones. This was also supported when sage Naruto was only able to make 5 shadow clones. Again, the stated reason was the complexity of the task at hand. This even explains why Naruto can fight people one on one just fine, but for some reason, those same people can strike down hoards of his clones. It's because the clones are limited in how complex their actions can be, or in their number. Naruto has to choose when he makes them.

He already had his arm ripped off by Minato if he came back that night , hiruzen would probably be enough to finish him off

I like the idea of mixing regular genjutsu clones with a ninjutsu ones. Probably won't wok on smarter opponents unless they loose their cool or you combine it with some other visual trick (i mean worst case scenario, smoke bombs are a thing). Lull someone with a couple fake out clones, then send another batch but mix in an actual clone.
Like few Kakashis are trying to tackle you but you find they are just holograms he throws few kunais at you in a meanwhile so they seem like a distraction. Then he sends them again after a while but not there is a lightning clone mixed in.
TEchnically can summond ninjutsu clone go hide somewhere and make a clone cast genjutsu clones. There's a ton of headgames you can play with just this combination but I understand you wanna limit even more clone spamming given that's the whole schtick of main character.
Speaking of busted. Not throw basic transformation jutsu into the mix. That one is also pretty damn busted and also basic academy technique given the fact you can apparently not only change your shape but also weight and we rarely see them.

No one used shadow clone jutsu because they didn’t have the chakra output to make them worth the effort. Naruto had an abundance of chakra because of Kurama, and he could equally distribute his massive amount of chakra to make them actual combatants and impossible to distinguish against Dojutsu. Even Sasuke’s chakra output only allowed him to make about 10 if I’m not mistaken. It’s all about chakra pool.
I can think using a E rank jutsu such as The Clone Jutsu at higher rank would be like using a level 0 spell in a level 20 fight in D&D.
I want to see clones of other chakra natures like a fire clone or wind clone. It would also be cool to see Shiikamaru make clones from his shadows

Kakashi can make a lot of shadow clones, but fighting with them is useless because he doesn't have the chakra to maintain them for long and splitting his power that much pretty much makes him useless in battle. He used it for intimidation. But Kakashi does have a decent chakra pool.
This is a mistake in the anime in the manga we see his thought that states they are just illusions and he called them shadow clones as a bluff to intimidate his opponents.

Sasuke also uses a clone in his fight with Gaara, wish he did it more often. Also Guy can summon a huge turtle, I'm sure he can make clones with no difficulty

I thought Kakashi literally said that he was just using a couple of shadow clones with a bunch of regular clones, because he was banking on them just freaking out over all of Naruto's actual Shadow Clones enough that he'd fool them with something cheap. Unless I am misremembering the episode and manga, I am pretty sure Kakashi has an internal monologue along the lines of "well, maybe if I throw in a few shadow clones of my own they'll be too freaked out by Naruto to notice my bluff."

Deidara hiding a clone somewhere to setup a flood of random small homing sculptures to wait on the battlefield from a hiding spot before dispelling while the original takes to the sky and halfheartedly attacks for misdirection until it's complete, seems like a great boon for him too. His battle with Gaara, into extracting the biju, then running from kakashi and naruto while spamming, leads me to believe he would be fully capable with at least 1 clone for quite a while, and after setup he wouldn't need to keep the clone around either.
Any Nara clansman with a single clone immediately has a better chance of catching the opponent with the element of surprise, and as for chakra consumption, just have the enemy mimic their running towards the true body and tether the shadow to him from there and dispell. The only wager is running out of half your chakra capacity at that point. Even then, setting up light bombs and other tricks would help greatly (why didn't shikamaru leverage Naruto's multi-shadow clones jumping into a battle from above for misdirection, and extra shadows for range, while the misdirect is an honest threat by itself and the shadow a win condition?)
You’re telling me that Naruto learned a variation of a genjutsu? No, it doesn’t make sense but I understand why you think it can be a genjutsu. It is not a genjutsu, a genjutsu requires to be observed to fall in. The clone jutsu and transformation jutsu are complete ninjutsu as it will keep working on people where this jutsu was not performed before them.
If I was to combo this off with something, then I'd use it as camo for other techniques like Phoenix Flower or Lightning Ball.
On one hand, you can use it to disguise techniques like this and surprise them with a bit of AOE damage if it works. Then even if they can see through the Clone Jutsu and see it's a fake, you can use the fact they know the clones aren't real to trick them into letting their guard down and getting hit by the technique hidden inside of them

I just think it is too much of a risk to just split your chakra. Such a pay off move, even in video games concept would be consider a bad move. Not to mention the clones get tapped so easily. The pay off was never worth it in the first place. Think of playing the "knight" in clash royale but it has the hp of a goblin and your elixir pool gets permanently cut in half. You would never see that card gets played in anywhere competitively. ( I am trying to argue the payoff is just not worth it when there are other jutsu they can spend their chakra on)
You argue that using a clone would be beneficial in the war arc, but in reality using a clone there would only increase his or her chances of dying when the chances of them dying in the war is already extremely high. The war itself is already a testimonial of time and stamina, and using a shadow clone or any chakra splitting clone would be taxing and increasing the chances of them dying early on or mid war. (Naruto even had to supply them chakra at the very end of the war) On the other hand, using an illusion clone is also not recommended as it will also confuse your allies. As for the enemy, most of the war arc enemies are juggernaut that fought off parties alone or with a partner. To them, illusion or not, it is all the same.
Overall, only monsters like Naruto, Madara, and Hashirama can spam and use clones without risking themselves too much.
the Clone-Jutsu is not a physical clone, it's just an illusion, similar to Genjutsu, but instead it's a clone anyone can see, meanwhile the Shadow Clone-Jutsu and many other Clone-Jutsus can literally beat the fuck out of people in seconds.

I'm yet to watch this video, but to answer, it's child's play. Kids are required to do this to become genins, the lowest rank of ninjas. Chunins and jonins should be able to do much nore useful and effective jutsu.

Shadow clone evenly divides your current chakra at the time of casting the jutsu. There is no reason anyone couldn't make a million shadow clones. It'd just be unwise to lower your chakra that much for such weak cones. And the reason the jutsu is forbidden is the chakra cost. There's no amount of chakra control to make it cost less. Aine the user at risk of dying from chakra loss alone, much less whatever their opponent is trying to do to them
I'm wondering why people wouldn't use regular clones in tandem with shadow clones, since shadow clones mostly get one shotted or are easiy swatted away, it could put an opponent off balance if their physical attack ends up phasing right through, or maybe wasting chakra on a regular clone in the heat of battle where you don't have enough time to distinguish between them. On top of that if you had a bunch of the regular massless clones throw bluff punches that phase through an opponent and then eventually throw in a real shadow clone, then it should be a decently effective tactic.
What I don't get is why they can't use the clone + shadow or other, stronger clones. It would make it harder to figure out because the clones can just keep moving around near the shadow clones, making the shadow clones harder to hit.
kakashi summoning a million clones was stated to be a complete bluff by kakashi himself. They basically weren't strong enough to hurt a fly.
There is a risk in using the normal clone and it is called the opportunity cost. The enemy is going to do their best to keep you from weaving hand signs so any time you can actually do so needs to be used wisely. Yes the clone jutsu is cheap but in a lot of situations it has little to no reward and the real cost of not using a more impactful jutsu when you had the chance really sinks in. Are there moments where it would be very impactful yes but there are also a lot of situations where you would be better off doing something else. This is true for all jutsu.
I think 12:59 encapsulates the problem. everyone can do it so if your opponent gives you time to weave the handsigns, they can use that time to do the same. maybe there’s some benefit to a first mover advantage but I think it’s so marginal you may as well not bother. in-universe that is

Most villains already deal with shadow clones. Using a worse version wouldn't be very effective.

I'll break this down by rank as to why I think we didn't see it that often.
Genin: We do see a lot of use there but also a lot of them ignoring it. This is likely out of a combination of lacking experience and spending all of their time training more advanced jutsus. Kiba for example, massively benefits from using clones but he's been training this entire time to overwhelm his enemy with speed and agility. Sakura on the other hand, while written badly, routinely relied on intelligence and traps so it makes sense she'd see value in something other 13 year olds missed.
Chunin: By this point if they are going to focus on clones they've likely learned some elemental clone or a more advanced version of basic clone. Combine this with life or death battle experience you get the unique situation that it's not that they wouldn't use clones but that if its a routine part of their kit they have better options. People who specialize in genjutsu are even worse because knocking your opponent out leaves them much more vulnerable than simply tripping them up with a hologram. I'd site tameri for this as you pointed out, she only considered it after her typical tricks stopped working.
Jonin: Sensory jutsus not only exist, they're relatively common. If your specific opponent doesn't have one then they're likely in a squad with someone who does. From this point on basic E ranked clones are simply more likely to fail than work at the best of times and they have enough chakra to support elemental and shadow clones. If they're a genjutsu expert they likely have something far more potent or a better version of clone jutsu. Not to mention at this level 'mass attacks' are a lot more common making tricking someone with numbers less viable.
Kage: They are entrusted with protecting the village against tailed beast, village destroying threats. The kage aren't even necessarily the strongest ninja around as seen by the different succession structures around but almost no kage level entity in naruto would fall for anything other than specialized jutsu. These uses are massively niche from every logical standpoint and basically only someone who's trained it as a core part of their kit is ever going to continue to see consistent use.
Ninja god/madara level: Besides the fact this basically only exists as the arc finisher for naruto's family disappointment and for a very brief time while kishmoto was being held against his will down in a basement to finish naruto... It's still worth bringing up that at this point if you're using any jutsu that hasn't been refined to level of a war crime you're doing your job wrong. When the gods start coming out you need tactics that include using mountains temporary cover and releasing viruses that reduce the body to a red slushy in one of most painful and chakra disrupting ways to prevent regeneration. Don't get me wrong I actually love this side of naruto because it still shows their battles will remain tactical even if they get up to universe destroying levels, but the literal only reason Naruto's clones are still functional is because he's specialized himself so heavily into it he might as well be equated to lee in when it comes how many battle tricks he actually has. You know the difference is clones are way more versatile so he won't have to kill himself in a way not even yin yang jutsu can fully fix to do anything meaningful.

Edit: I reread and while he says shadowclone it's made very obvious that its not the shadow clone jutsu.
First he says he is out of chackra and can't make anything "solid" anymore but should have enough for a bluff and then when he does use the "shadow clone jutsu" it says shadow clone jutsu kakashi version while seemingly not doing anything different from the normal shadow clone jutsu. I think that was the author heavily hinting at those not being actual shadowclones.
The way I always saw the shadow clone jutsu was that using the jutsu didn't necessarily take up much chakra it's just the division that was the huge downside. Kakashi using a whole bunch wasn't a plot hole, yeah he was low on chakra but that just means every clone was just that much weaker.
If the jutsu only divides chakra, it can never kill you since you will never be able to divide it until 0%. But it does kill people, it means that either being low on chakra kills you or Shadow clones do take part of your chakra, not just divide it.
