    Thank you! Years ago, I figured out how to upgrade my late 2011 MacBook Pro (Intel Core i5) with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, but sadly MacOS support ended a few months after. I just got Cinnamon running on it, and its breathing new life. This is my first experience with Linux in any capacity. Thanks again!

    A couple of weeks ago I installed proxmox .. But..... I added xfce as a stand alone front end. I wonder how linux mint or other heavier distributions would peform. This is if you don't want to stick the computer in the corner and forget about it. This allows you to have a actual desktop and if you want to pull up proxmox web interface you can simply go to the IP address in the browser to control all of your VM's. This worked great until I changed my proxmox box into a full time opnsense router. Since I had to change network settings, I could no longer access the internet for the life of me. Still working on a new setup with proxmox separate from my router to test this out. If you could that would be great!

    Nice video, but what about the webcam?

    • @tommy1460z
      @tommy1460z 4 месяца назад +1

      Probably the same issue as with my 2014 MacBook Air, there is no support for the built-in webcam when just plainly installing Linux Mint. There is a work-around available which requires downloading FaceTime HD and PCIE drivers from GitHub and installing them via Terminal/Command Line, but that usually only works until the next Kernel update, then the webcam is gone again and it can not be fixed by simply running the installation of this work-around again (at least it does not work for me). As much as I like Linux Mint and its performance on my old MacBook Air, the webcam issue is extremely annoying. Linux Mint should find a way to automatically and permanently support the built-in webcam after installation.

    Hi, don't know fo anyone can help: I've tried everything to create a bootable usb key on the mac. The mac will not see the key when booting with the option key held down. It will only see the mac hd itself and not the usb key at all. I've tried with the key formatted as FAT and GUID, Apple journaled and GUID, FAT and MBR...you get the picture. Nothing is seen by the mac on boot except for the main HDD. No firmware password on the mac. Oh, and this applies for a couple of usb keys, so it's not the keys.

    Hi. Installed Linux Mint on my 2016 MacBook Pro. I followed your steps. I searched for drivers to connect to my wireless router, I got a message "no drivers needed." However, I still cannot connect wirelessly. I can connect with a wired Ethernet connection. Also, for some reason, I have no sound. Program works great on my computer. How do I fix these two problems?

    Howdy from Texas! I saw your last video on installing Manjaro and just curious do you prefer Linux Mint or Manjaro on your MBP 2012? I'm a newbie on Linux and can't decide which to use. I installed Linux Mint on my 10 year old Toshiba laptop and it runs great. But I'm worried if the keyboard layout (command keys) will be recognized on my MBP 2012. And you mention the all the ports were recognized on Manjero, are the ports recognized on Linux Mint with your MBP?

      That's part of the reason I do these types of videos. I love keeping older hardware alive and showing how others can do the same with tutorials to get around common issues.

    Hi, my question is somewhat irrelevant to this video, but after searching for hours on the internet to solve my desire this is the closest I`ve got the the solution.
    So, I am running the latest Linux Mint version on my DELL 7720;
    Codename - Virginia.
    And, so I have an old HDD from my PowerBook G3 Pismo that I would like to access to review my old photos, etc.
    It has a security access code that I know. But I was wondering if is it possible to emulate the MacOS 10.2.8 environment on my Linux Mint or somehow access all files that are present on my HDD.
    I have installed the "sudo apt install hfsplus" and found no relevant topics on the internet regarding this issue of mine.
    Can, anybody help me, please?
