Hey everyone, Angela here 👋 I just wanted to say thank you to you all for visiting our little cottage garden, looking back at the video I can see that the captions are way too fast to read, and I’d of been better to do a voiceover 🫣 I’m new to RUclips, so I’m trying to get to grips with editing, I’m hoping to learn more as I go, for someone who is generally rubbish with any kind of technology it’s a challenge for sure 😂 I hope you will be patient with me as I learn and grow, I really do appreciate you all being here and leaving me such wonderful and supportive comments 😊 wishing you all lots of success in your own gardens this season 🌸🐝

This is such a calming yet inspirational film. Thank you! I'm not a gardener. I sew clothes, knit, play musical instruments, ferment things, paint in watercolour, do photography...the list is quite extensive. But gardening is scary. I've felt defeated so many times! Now, I'm going to give it a proper try (we've only lived here for twenty-five years, hehe). It's kind of reassuring that your garden is so beautiful yet you lost plants despite caring for them the best you could. Perhaps I can do this!
I'm so sorry for the devastation caused by the massive ice storm. I actually cried. It must have been heartbreaking for you.

Hey Alice, thank you so much for your lovely compliment. Honestly if I can garden, anyone can! I can’t sew and I would LOVE to be able to play a musical instrument, you are clearly able to put your mind to something and achieve great things! Roses I find are so easy to care for and very rewarding, as are sweet peas, once you see things bloom you’ll be hooked! Go for it, it’s very relaxing too! Lots of luck creating the perfect garden for you to love and nurture ☺️🌿🌸🪴🤗

@@hideawaycottage thanks so much for your lovely reply. I've started transforming my garden and it's going great. We now have some beds instead of weeds (although I've completely left the far end, for wildlife). Apart from the David Austin rose I planted exactly as they said, and 5 days later lots of the inner leaves have black-spot and are falling off, which is very upsetting. But this time I'm not giving up! Thanks again.

A stunning haven. I have some of what you have (in my 100'x35' garden in SW London)but some perennials take issue with my chalky soil. I didn't notice but would recommend if you haven't got any - Salvia. Also scented shrubs if you have any room - Daphne and Sarcococca Confusa. My garden is very shrubby and with the size you have to have a lot of lawn - I'm working on more colour.

Your heucheras need a good root chop and remove the dead leaves, then replant in a semi shade spot and water regularly, until you see new leaves.
If you just leave the stem floating above the soil, it will probably die.
For any really big heucheras, you can divide gently and make 2 or 3 new plants.
    Hope this helps, Jo.😊

You havent lost your dicentra or bleeding heart plant.
They need to be mulched very thoroughly in spring to feed the corms in the soil.
Mine disappeared and after a good mulch of small bark, with slow release fertilizer in it, called mulch and feed, it came back in its full glory and the biggest its even been.
So give it a go and put it in a morning sun position.

Hi-ya, an American here. Just commenting on how small the world is….. I too have a similar size front garden (in the tiny yard of my 1,900 sq. ft. townhouse) and grow many of the exact same plants in the same style as yours! My garden is in the Southeast United States in Zone 7b. We get a full 4 seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter) but none last more than 3 months, so none are too hot or too cold for to long! Summers get to 110+ Fahrenheit with 95-100% humidity (or more), and winters can get down to 17 degrees (Fahrenheit or below) with a foot or two of snow (or more) in some years……and other years (2022), no snow at all. PERFECT gardening in my book, except for the months we get very little or No rain at all (June, July, August); only morning dew….maybe.
I enjoyed your tour. Wish it was a spoken tour not subtitled though. Maybe next time.
Also perhaps you could tell us about what you use as fertilizer and pest control and how you maintain your beds on a daily basis…I know I spend a good hour per day walking around deadheading, pulling out spent bulb foliage and popping in annuals in bare patches, etc.
Looking forward to the next one!!
    Cheers 🌼

Beautiful garden. Was interested in your comments about some of your flowers not coming back. Tonight here in the US , the news reported that the state of Georgia has lost it’s entire peach crop. The reason being is that there were not enough cold hours to help the trees produce fruit. They had about 700 hours and more than 800 are needed. Don’t know if that applies to perennials but something to think about. I lost my dogwood this year due to blight. Best wishes for you and your charming garden 😊

I would love to see a slower pace, i have to keep stopping the video to see what is growing. and especially the bumble bees as we don't have them in our State. Keeping the camera still and not up and down i think is a good tip, as i watch a lot of english garden videos, but it takes trial and error. So keep experimenting and i look forward to watching again, you have a lovely cottage and garden, worth filming and i thank you as i sit with a cup of tea and enjoy your efforts.

    Dear Angela,
Your garden is absolutely beautiful! I love all the sweet decorative touches that you have added here and there and the mix of flowers is just amazing! You are doing great with the video, but it's true that it would be way better to hear you instead of trying to read the captions :) continue your nice work, I hope to see more of this enchanting garden!

Your beautiful garden it the epitome of what a country cottage garden should look like. I am so envious of it! I love the colours of the plants and the little seating areas. I tend to go for evergreen shrubs so I have foliage throughout the year as I hate to see dead plants during the winter month. I do however plant red geraniums in pots every summer to ensure a splash f colour. Do not worry about the captions. I did not have a problem with them myself. Take care.

Hello 👋 oh you’re so kind, thank you 😊
I love geraniums! I’ve bought some little ones too this year for pots, however the tag was missing so it’ll be a nice surprise what colour they turn out to be 🥳

Me again! Also your peonies - they are so perfectly upright. Do you stake them and what variety are they please.

    • @hideawaycottage
      @hideawaycottage  Год назад

Hey 👋 no, to be honest I don’t stake them, I have got some decorative obelisks but I haven’t tied them in. The large double headed ones get quite heavy but so far they’re staying upright, I’m not too sure of all the varieties, I think I have 9 altogether, I love peonies so much, I know the one that hasn’t flowered yet is a sorbet … hoping that looks good when it blooms 😍
