I think this was a kind and honest song for its time! Freddie died shortly after this concert..not many hits but made thier mark in the British Invasion and will never be forgotten!
Dang.....I didn't know Freddie passed away. :( Back in the 60's, Freddie had a strong resemblence to the late Buddy Holly(1936-1959). And now he's in Rock-N-Roll Heaven with all the music stars who went before us(including Buddy Holly). He will be greatly missed.
In the mid sixties I was in primary school and totally in love with Freddy. What is so great about this clip is he is obviously enjoying himself. I remember reading around the time he passed away his doctor told him to stop performing. He didn't and died doing what he loved most, performing. RIP Freddy, the world is a poorer place without you.
Music was just fantastic back then, We will never see his like again, Although born in 67 i never knew this band till the 1980's 60's revival, Completely changed my musical tastes from then on, He seemed to be a gentleman indeed, I remember his passing in 2006, R.I.P Freddie Garrity
seen him 1988 in london.he was on after the bingo.because i loved him as a kid.asked freinds from liverpool and london to come the bingo that night,Was not easy to get them all to come,They were brilliant, and everyone was glad that they came.looking back now at this old footage makes me sad to think he,s gone.thanks for the memorys.
Yes I saw him in Nottingham on one of the solid gold 60's tours, must have been early 2020's I think. Freddy spent ages after the concert signing programs and stuff, he was very approachable.
loved freddie and the dreamers as a kid, also rushed home from school to watch the afteroon tv show he had for kids, great stuff, back when tv was quality tv
When I knew this band,Freddie had passed away 5 years ago...I think he had been a great show man until this concert. Thank you for giving us so happy hours,songs.R.I.P.
I first heard this song in 1985. I was a highschool girl then. Its happy melody soon caught my mind. Since then, this song has been my favorite. Freddie, Derek, Roy, Pete, Bernie, and MItch, thank you for the wonderful music. I love you all.
Thanx for that! I was in love with Freddie when I was a little girl! I still have his tv series albumns and signed photo from the early 70's. God bess him and R.I.P. freddie! Love ya!
Freddie and the Boys were always on my Turntable, In fact last year I purchased an autographed Dreamer album with only Freddies autograph. Got it on the famous ebay.
u are roughly the same age as me, i too was totally in love with him at a very young age, used to love watching his show when i was slighly older, a very lovely man and yes, very missed x
bernie was my great uncle, he died as he lived, he had a huge party and the next day booked into a hospice, he just slipped away after being there for 2 hours! his funeral was planned and payed by him, a very happy event, on friday the 13th the date his godson had also been buried, he was one of the funniest most caring people ever, and he threw the best parties, RIP uncle bernie!!! we miss you lots, look after Ryann for me x
Died at such a relatively early age. Was fortunate he was able to ride the wave where having decent songs and a gimmick would transcend the quality of the music. I’m sure he’d be the first to say he didn’t have a great voice and the band were no more than competent and because of that be grateful for the success he had.
I grew up enjoying his songs, but the highlight of his career for me was his show Little Big Time. Sadly, nothing seems to have survived of this show, but it was a good children's show, and had a segment called Oliver In The Overworld, about the adventures of Freddie and his living Grandfather Clock in a strange, magic land, which we all loved - even Mum and Dad used to join us to watch that bit. I still have the album they released (and very good it is, too), and I recall an interview with Freddie many years ago in which he said that was one of his favourite things that he'd done.
Wow look at him in this video, Yeah, that's how I remember Freddy! He played The Pavillion in Bournemouth, must have been late 90's? I loved the show and when they finished I just rushed down to the stage to meet him, like you do.. anyway, I took with me a pair of red cheap plastic binoculars that were issued by the theatre and I went straight up to Freddy and said "Here, a present for you to thank you for the great show!" He laughed his head off and said to me, you knick them, didn't you?!!!
@@nicohatsoff yes they were the first act on and did 3 numbers because they needed to get to the airport, missed their flight anyway Fred having a medical issue on the ✈️ flight home, I have a video of that nights show. Where you in the band?
@@AndyDEFILLIPPO yes I was in the band for 6 years and that flight home to the UK was a nightmare with a night on the floor at JFK waiting for next available flight and then Freddie being ill on the plane. That was July 2000 and the band was finished completely by the end of the year with Freddie retiring due to pulmonery hyptertension and he sadly passed away in 2006.
One thing that I have noticed while listening to their recordings and seeing other vids on RUclips is they were an incredibly TIGHT band, esp when they are doing their 'choreography' while performing such syncopated songs. They have to be very dedicated to their craft!
Derek Quinn(1942-2020), 80, lead guitarist of Freddie & The Dreamers.. (the one with the dark shades) joined his bandmates, drummer Bernie Dwyer(1941-2002) and lead vocalist Freddie Garrity(1936-2006) (who looked like Buddy Holly) on stage in the Spirit World, following his battle with Covid-19.
LOL!! The drummer lost it a little there!! Yes Freddie was very underrated as a 60's act! My band once played on the same bill as his original band in the 90's on a corporate function!!
Well...not THAT shortly mortician..he passed in 2006. Look for the tribute website and post if you wish. I chatted briefly with the lady that hosts that site and she would like it if you did.
'Do the Freddie'.... well I suppose it wasn't easy padding out those 45 minute concerts !! Nicohatsoff doesn't say in which capacity he worked with the the late great Freddie..
Thanks Freddy for making us all happy
Freddie had what others are missing today....personality..RIP Dear Freddie...
Definitely agree. AIDS took an amazing showman.
This is a great performance. As we used to say, tight as a DA, musically that is!
A one-off and total legend. Sadly missed. Love and peace.
Too sad that a man that brought us so much joy passed on so early. As delofu said, I am sure he is still making good rock'n'roll up above us.......
But he was substantially older than he claimed to be. In 1964, he wasn't 24. He was 29. Born in 1935.
I remember this song when 10 years old. Graduated in 71. Thanks for this.
Freddie, you even had 7-year-old me doing the Freddie with my friends. You made my youth happier. RIP.
The world needs another Freddie.
I think this was a kind and honest song for its time!
Freddie died shortly after this concert..not many hits but made thier mark in the British Invasion and will never be forgotten!
This is how I remember my grandad, being born in the 80s I was late introduced to his musical side, to me he was just grandad
I absolutely loved this guy from the very first time I saw him on Ed Sullivan to the end. he's been gone for several yrs now, and I still love him.
Dang.....I didn't know Freddie passed away. :(

It's good to see that there are still plenty of fans who remember and love the music of Freddie and the Dreamers.

I love Freddie and the Dreamers and Freddie Garrity must have been one of the nicest guys ever. At least that has always been my impression.
It was definitely my impression when I met him after a show
My mom met him bk in the 60s said he was lovely so friendly
I met him in the 60's in Chicago and spent some time alone with him in his hotel room and he was quite the gentleman! I'll never forget him. R.I.P.
Charming guy....he autographed one of my CDs joking while he was doing it.....👍🌹

Well done Freddy you are loved...you made a difference featured in four films. number 1 billboard
my grandad is the drummer of freddy and the dreamers
THAT'S AWESOME!😉
Your Grandad was an excellent drummer. Many thanks for the memories .
Howdy from Dallas Texas

During the 60s they were a great fun band! Thanks for the memories
Great guy, I interviewed back in 1967.
Aways a dreamer...
R.I.P., Freddie.
I remember him doing the freddie on the ed sullivan show the next day at school everyone was doing the freddie in the schoolyard
thanks for posting, last heard this when new, summer 65
Thanx for that!

God bess him and R.I.P. freddie! Love ya!
Great band and a great man! They gave us a happy feeling at a time when it was hard to be happy. RIP old chap.
I love all these reminiscent posts and I know Freddie does too.
I remember this gig well - it was at Foxwoods, Connecticut in the USA. I was there performing with the Dakotas. Did many gigs with Freddie.
Freddie and the Boys were always on my Turntable, In fact last year I purchased an autographed Dreamer album with only Freddies autograph.
Got it on the famous ebay.
The joy of sing-a-long and music and the dance. This group first performed for children music shows in the UK.
Just wished I could have been at this gig. Fantastic
One of a kind,RIP,ty for great memories
I remember Freddie when I was 8 years old!
He "did the Freddie" till the end.R.I.P.
Had the pleasure of meeting Freddie when he toured Australia - what a gentleman.
I willing to bet that everyone in heaven (including god himself) is doing the Freddie. God Bless you Freddie.
I heard Freddie on two occassions and he always gave 100% performance, he will always be remembered

A lovey showman RIP dear freind
Nice video ,of a top artist of that time
Hi, that was a really moving tribute,
Best wishes Mark :)
I wish I'd seen him live - looked great fun!
They weren't as big in the US, but they were a fun, light hearted group. We liked them at my house.

@emz5790 Brilliant. Sounds like my wonderful dad.
YES AGREE A GREAT ARTIST SADLY MISSED
Freddie had a great voice.
Great times, when music was fun!
Now they have to look like there sitting on a rusty drawing pin.
This version is as good as the old one!
great man
I'm sure he's up in heaven doing The Freddy.RIP Freddy
Sad. I liked them. Too bad Freddie's gone now. A big difference from 65 even though he tries.
They don't make em like this guy anymore, childhood memories of the 60's.
Christ what's happened to this world ?
The last U.S appearance and I was there
So was I lol ....will never forget it. Especially the journey back with Freddie having a heart attack on the plane.

P.s. Im the guitarist standing between Freddie and Simon the keyboard player.
It's sad that all the band bar one are all died
Freddy Forever.......
Rip Freddie
yay my bud Alan Ed on drums, great bloke :o)
I was also checking up some info on the web and found that the band's original drummer Bernie Dwyer is also gone.
He passed away in 2002.
Derek passed last year, there no information on Pete and Roy

Bless his heart......he was short winded rip
Freddie Garrity appeared in minor tv roles in the 80s and 90s
RIP Derek, Freddie, Bernie.
Derek Quinn(1942-2020), 80,
lead guitarist of Freddie & The Dreamers..
(the one with the dark shades)
joined his bandmates, drummer
Bernie Dwyer(1941-2002) and lead
vocalist Freddie Garrity(1936-2006)
(who looked like Buddy Holly)
on stage in the Spirit World, following
his battle with Covid-19.
I made a song based on Do
the Freddie only changed the lyrics to Do the Leda about my discovery to walk have MS since 1978
by putting my elbows 🆙 it creates balance & I can Walk!! I immediately thought of beloved Freddie’s song that is what came out of me here it is
sdaly missed
they do a great version of run for your life on the beat club
Freddy is great - the point ‘ don’t take your self too seriously - a musical Peter Sellers
Not my sort of music but it would have been a good way to spend an evening. Yeh, I like it
All the way to the end! He never lost it! Missed by all!
good pop band I perfered the original dreamers of the 60s but people retire or die but the music lives on
What was the drummer doing on Do the Freddie? Went out of time and couldn't get back in! LOL! Yes Freddie was a great performer! RIP!
Drummer fine should go to specksavers
No he should go to drum lessons lol
It may be toned down from their youth, but they're really playing here.
LOL!! The drummer lost it a little there!! Yes Freddie was very underrated as a 60's act! My band once played on the same bill as his original band in the 90's on a corporate function!!
Freddie was one of the good ones....unlike this crap today, or for the last 20 years!
What happened to the music scene anyway?? RIP Freddie.....
My namesake... gotta love him. I often encouraged girls to 'do the Freddie'
ACE
Or even BLESS him! :-)
Well...not THAT shortly mortician..he passed in 2006. Look for the tribute website and post if you wish. I chatted briefly with the lady that hosts that site and she would like it if you did.

Bongo
Is your Dad John; ex St. Bede's school?
I know...silly and gimmicky and all that...but damned if that's not a catchy melody.
Truly a Great Merseybeat act
Manchester music actually.
