    Excellent vid as always. Couple of weeks back, got the dreaded low oil pressure warning light in my roadster on the way to Halford's ironically. Mistook it for low oil level, bought some oil, put it in, still got light. Drove home (I know, I shouldn't have) but less than a mile. Did not drive car again, waiting on mechanic to sort. In garage, no warning light, 3 hours on diagnostic bed with constant oil pressure monitoring, oil pressure all good, until it failed after 3 hours. New oil pump, sensor, strainer, and oil filter fitted. Phew!!!!! Engine lives to tell the tale.

    Had that low oil pressure since i got my 2000 TT. Got it checked as soon as it popped up the 1st time. My mechanic told me oil was fine and it might be the sensor, as you mentioned. Now i gotta find a brand new. But yeah, oil must be the most important thing to take care on a 22y/o car.

Thanks for this Dom, great heads up, will get pick up pipe changed at next service. Hi, I've a 2002 225 with 200k+ miles on the clock. The Red Oil warning comes on some mornings when I start the car. It goes off after about 15 seconds. Is is safe to drive after the warning light goes off?
    I mentioned it the last time I got a service and the mechanic seemed to think it was not a problem

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  Год назад +1

      That oil light is for low oil pressure. Have you ever had your strainer checked? It could very well be blocked. The oil pump could be on its way out. Could be a bad oil pressure warning light

  • @jockneyranger
    @jockneyranger Год назад

    I have this on my 2003 3.2. It is intermittent and by the time you pull over it goes out. It also only happens when the engine is up to temp.
    It goes into the garage tomorrow but it’s looking like it’s the 1.2 ~1.6 bar pressure sensor.
    Fingers crossed anyway.

    Dom,
    I am always very impressed with your insights. One thing that I have found odd is the yellow Oil Sensor warning. My TT has afresh oil change and otherwise behaves fine, but that light is annoying for an OCD guy like myself. What would you suggest as first steps to diagnose? Many thanks and keep up the great work you do! Cheers, Sam

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  Год назад +1

      Hey Sam, thanks for the message and the kind words, So you have a yellow oil level warning? if so i would check the level, if ok then it could be the sump sensor or the wiring to it, often the wiring gets covered in oil and can degrade ( from where a leaking rocker gasket leaks oil down the back of the engine :)

    Hello, good morning, you know a lot, thank you for helping, I have the 225 too, the other day I went to the circuit I did a couple of laps at full speed and it got a little hot, when I went to enter the pits it stopped, the warning light came out. the battery and it didn't start until it cooled down, it's like it went into safety mode and then when it cools down you can start normally. It did that to me twice on the circuit, and yesterday doing a normal route with some accelerations but the perfect temperature it stopped but this time with the red oil and battery light too, I waited 10 minutes and it started again perfectly. What could it be? ?

    • @TheParrottBros
      @TheParrottBros  3 месяца назад

      Hmm thats interesting, usually the red oil light is a sign of low oil pressure, which usually is followed by a horrible engine noise. If you will getting the car really hot it could well be something with the power cables, often they get Poor resistance and can get very hot, it could be a sensor like a Crangle camshaft sensor the winner gets very hot fails which will kill your engine also, I would certainly look at getting your oil drained taking the samples and checking your strainer is not blocked before you swap with oil pressure sensor

    • @u.f.u.l.s2023
      @u.f.u.l.s2023 3 месяца назад

      But could the camshaft sensor be the crankshaft sensor? It stops and doesn't start again until a while passes.

    The problem is this, changing the oil pump on most modern cars is a time consuming and tedious task, even for a season veteran mechanic, yes the part is $40, but it costs $1200 at a shop for a reason..

    Tasmania Australia 2000 Quattro TT roadster ( convertable) 1.8 turbo 6 speed manual. Dark (sherward?) Green and tan baseball interior.
    I just gave it a full service as well as replaced the rocker cover gasket as it was weeping down the back of the motor.
    Recently took it for a decent run and when it rained the oil pressure light came on.
    I have degreased the lower oil sensor area and dried it out but another run and it came on again.
    I have had this car since ... ?? 2015?? And it just clocked 200, 000km.
    I will keep checking things and let you know.

    How the hell do you replace the drive belt for the rear wind deflector without going insane as im 64yoa and the arthritis is not good and it looks like the belt change is going to cause me a lot of pain.
