    Very helpful vid Dom, I had my underside refurbed at my local garage who were more than happy to do it, always worth asking. Well worth doing if you intend to keep a TT on the road for any length of time.

    Nice tips, as usual. Already did the front arms bushings. One of this days, I plan to work on the front sub frame, and the rear arms.
    I found a very good rust converter : Ferose.
    2001, 225 BAM coupé.

      Its worth pulling the liners off as mud builds up quite badly against the side skirts :)

      Thanks buddy, it’s a question I see often where garages dont want to take on a refurb they just want to fit parts.
      The issue with doing it your self is once you’ve disabled the car on your drive or wherever then it just sits till you’ve got everything sorted, so could be off the road months 😂

    great video from new home. I am a Mk2 TTS owner and bought a complete rear sub frame from a breaker for the reasons you outlines. I also used a fine ceramic sander on a multi tool to remove all rust quickly before smearing all surfaces with a thick layer of lanolin. This I bought in 1 kg tubs off ebay. Providing A cheap thick layer which takes loads of projectiles.

    Did mine on axel stands two months ago. Wire brushed, rust treat and then brushed on POR15.

    Im not gloating, but that salt smeg must eat at everything 24-7..!!
    Here in Australia, they just changed the classic road registration from 30 to 25 years.
    My 2001/1/1 is close to a classic.!
    LOLs the Mk1 TT has all the early groundbreaking technologies to make it an ultimate classic.
    Sure it took deaths on the AutoBahn, but they collaborated to make all cars safer.

    Thanks for the video Dom. One thing I am unhappy with is my suspension (I have bought Gaz coilovers about half a year ago) and I may be blaming coils when it could be caused by suframe and bushes. I may start with the back myself or give Bryn a call (I'm also in the middlands).

      Hey buddy, what seems to be the issue? Gaz are extremely good suspension, a little on the hard side but they are built for performance

      @@TheParrottBros I found it much harder than your usual coilovers but a very solid build. Unfortunately, car doesn't seem to have a good grip but don't have other tt to compare the driving feel to :P
      Mainly my problem lies in feeling every little imperfection on the road, and slight wobbliness when at higher speeds

    Live in Oz and currently breaking a roadster. Subframes are near new (no salt on roads). Storing parts in roof as they will become sort after in the future.

      100% keep hold of them! even in the uk now the roadster subframe is far more expensive than the coupe ones already

      That’s well timed! Haha I think quite a few are taking a similar route to you this year, makes sense as it preserves it for many years to come.
      I don’t but there is quite a good video online already, I will be doing another video in the coming weeks just waiting for a car to get to my unit 😂

    Great video and good timing, this is my winter project to drop the rear subframe, blast and rust treat it, replace the bushes etc. I was just going to hammerite or chassis paint the frame once the rust was removed and treated but considering getting the powder coating done now, does it really offer a better level of protection than paints ? Thanks!

      The right powder coating should be tougher than most paints as its heat treated on, its likely what was on most parts from the factory it just deteriorates over time, you can use a good quality rust treatment then just use POR15, that is my go to paint if your not going to powdercoat :)

    Great video, I've just bought an Audi TT 3.2 roadster.I love it so far but the MOT came up with an advisory. 'subframe corroded but not seriously weakened' I'm a bit worried about how to tackle it as I dont have the practical skills or knowledge. I don't even know what the advisory means. Help me please lol

      Hey Beth! firstly congratulations on TT ownership, So basically the subframe corroded means that its rusty but not enough that its dangerous, However left untreated will rust and a hole will appear which will then be a fail, Depending on how bad it is you have 2 options, get your one treated and some rust prevention paint /coating applied or if its past that over the next year you may need to get a new one fitted.

    I have a mk1 225 recently had a noise coming from the front on drive.. Looked today and oil from left hand front inner drive shaft.. Nose getting louder coukd this be the bearings?

      Hey dean, TT spares have newly powder coated recon ones on the shelf i believe, a fraction of the cost of new ones unless you want to source used off ebay and get them refurbed yourself :)

    Wondering if you could help. I am searching for a front subframe for a 3.2 V6. I have come across a few on eBay, which claim that they came from a 225 and they will fit the 3.2V6 will they fit? Thanks Dean

      The 1.8t & 3.2 subframes are different, only slightly but none the less not compatible if you want to have an undertray!
      On the 3.2 subframe it has 2 raised blocks with threads in them to hold up the Metal undertray, the 225 one does not have this as it has a plastic undertray thats a different shape

    Ive just put on adjustable top and bottom rear link arms, so I have four arms with no rust here in the driest state on the driest continent on Earth. Are they worth sending to the UK?

      So you have the opposite issue to what we have haha. Does that mean bushes and bearings wear out quicker due to the dry heat?

      You’ll never get to 100% of it but you can get to all the bits that will get salty if you know what I mean

      I done my truck this way, basically what I can advise is get it on some stands, and go to B&Q and get a cheap (£2 ish) decorators overalls, get under there with scrapers and wire brushes etc. and if you take the time you can get to most of it with a bit of time and patience 👍

    how hard would it be to convert a v6 undertray to fit a 1.8 you think?

      Not easy as it had multiple large bolt fixings that a 225 just doesn’t have the threads for. Plus isn’t really benefitting as it doesn’t protect the underside much more than the 225 one, still has an open slot at lowest point

    Do the non Quattro TTs have a different front subframe ? Are the front trailing arms different?

      Front subframe will be the same as it’s shared with mk4 platform. Not sure wether they will have cast arms or not though, I’m sure all tt’s had cast arms. The golfs / Leon’s have pressed arms

      @@TheParrottBros Thanks for the reply, I think it depends on the hubs with relation to the cast or pressed arms, had this issue on a mk1 Octavia it has the 312mm discs but the TT cast arms wouldn't fit the hubs.

    Completely different question to the video. But is it worth upgrading the coil pack to the 2.0 version? What benefits will it give me?

      Upgrading your coil packs to the latest revision is the best option, there is not much difference between the 2 L and the revised 1.8 ones. They offer a more consistent Spark is all

      Unfortunately it’s a Europe based car for the most part, I’m sure others feel the same here who love big v8 fords / chevys 😎. I’ve seen a few posts recently where there is multiple tt’s in a meet in America. I know America is a little bigger than the uk so could well be miles and miles away 😂
