That is no guarantee that this will continue. As for Darnold, he's having a great start, but it's no slam dunk that he will not revert to a pumpkin.

Detroit loves Goff. There's always people who look to criticize, but Detroit chants his name at sporting events that have nothing to do with him. He brought playoff wins to generations of fans who have never gotten to experience that.

Bingo, when Goff went to the Super Bowl that offense was averaging 35 points a game and was stacked at every position. I think Goff is a top 10 QB. He is also needs a lot of help, he also makes bad decisions when plays break down. If you rewatch that Lions vs Rams game Goff threw the ball in the middle of the field when he was being pressured. It could have easily been called a backwards pass and a fumble. It didn't hurt him but when it's time to adlib he becomes a bottom 10 QB. The 4th down in the NFC Championship game, the 49ers went from man to zone. When Goff doesn't know the format he is really bad.

Last year was Stafford's second winning season with the Rams and is about the same record Goff had with them when he got fired. Now Goff has the Lions winning playoff games, something Stafford could never do, and the Rams are in the basement again. So how great is McVey after all?

Every team Detroit beat y’all said was good teams at the time we played them. Don’t down play it now cuz those teams are losing now. Matthew Stafford was supposed to be a top tier Qb of a playoff team. Baker Mayfield was supposed to be a “MVP candidate” When we played Arizona They was supposed to be a tough team to beat according to sports media. The sports media are Detroits biggest haters.
They always act like their hindsight was their first take when it was nowhere near. If they were paid for accurate analysis, most of them would be on food stamps.

I dislike the dishonesty that people have when they talk about Stafford going to the Rams and winning a Super Bowl after Goff got traded to Detroit. They don’t add that the Rams also got a couple playmakers after getting Stafford which they didn’t have before trading Goff. It’s a disingenuous comparison of Goff to Stafford. They never bring up the fact that they signed Von Miller on defense and OBJ on offense that year after trading for Stafford.

However, they had a weak run game during that year, which is something that Goff has to have to be successful. The offense under Stafford was way more complicated and pass focused instead of run focused. Goff would struggle in that system. The Lions system is very similar to the one that the Rams played with Goff, which is partially why he is currently successful in Detroit. Goff has improved his game overall though, along with his confidence.
Stafford finished that season top 3 in yards and touchdowns, partially because he threw the ball so much. The offense was only successful if he was playing well, which obviously he did. He also had to lead three game winning drives in the playoff run back to back. In addition, while they gained players they also lost players. They added the players that you mentioned, but they also did not have Todd Gurley, Cam Akers was hurt, Brandin Cooks was gone, Robert Woods went down as well. They didn't add Von Miller and OBJ until the second half of the season when they were 7-2. The year before, their defense was rated #2 overall. In the super bowl run, it was not as good as the #2 defense. They were better at rushing the passer, but there were several games were they were almost blown out and allowed a lot of yards. That year was the last chance that it had to make a run. Make no mistake, both Goff and Stafford are great in different ways, but both will have different success in different systems. Stafford can handle more pass centered systems due to his incredible arm talent and football intelligence, but Goff is probably a better game manager and can succeed by not doing too much. Both ways can win a superbowl as Goff almost did.

If you had been paying attention to the Lions since MCDC took over, you'd see that his decision making has progressed the entire time. His first year coaching he had almost no idea what clock management even was, that has definitely improved. I'm not saying he's perfect, but he has shown an ability to learn from his mistakes.

A 4th and goal that the refs messed up(should have kicked it after that though) and a 4th down pass that Reynolds dropped(perfectly designed and executed up until the drop.) Both plays that hurt them in the end, but they took those risks all season, a big reason why they were even in that position.

A problem the Lions have is that they take a lot out of the teams they play. Then those teams look bad the next week. It has happened to all 3 opponents so far. The Rams got smoked by the Cards. The Bucs got beat handily by the Broncos. The Cards got smoked by the Commanders. Then people doubt how good those opponents are.
Their defense really missed Branch and Davenport. Hopefully Branch will be back after the bye.

Pierce couldn't say the Lions are the team to beat because he doesn't want to be a prisoner of the moment, then he goes on to say that team is Minnesota, which could very possibly be just a moment. 4-0 is solid, but a 4 game stretch can mean nothing in an NFL season. The year after the Goff-Stafford trade, the Lions had a better record in November than the Rams(who won the Superbowl) without having 1 win the entire year through November(1 tie in Nov.) Joy is the only one that had a realistic perspective.

Hold up ! To make the comparison of Golf v.s Prescott shouldn't be considered in a lot of categories when it comes to making a QB accomplished career thus far . Although Prescotts regular season stats may give him an edge . Golf clearly has a proven record in the playoffs. 1-1 NFC chip appearance. 1 SUPERBOWL APPEARANCE. There lies a difference.
"It was a dog fight!" No it wasn't. All due respect to Seattle, but if you look at ESPN probability tracking in their game tracker... After the first quarter, the Lions were never below 75.7% to win the game.
Detroit offense ran 46 plays and scored 42. Seattle offense ran 79 and scored 27. First 2 possessions after half time... Detroit scored in 5 plays, then scored in 1 play. Detroit's defense was gassed. Walker's a beast, and our tackling faded, but that doesn't mean we still weren't in control.
As long as the lions keep Gibbs and Monty healthy. Nobody can beat the lions. The way to win games in the NFL is to control the line of scrimmage. To be able to run the football and stay balanced on offense. Then you need to stop the run on defense. Which is exactly what Detroit does well. Nobody runs the ball against the lions. And nobody can contain the two headed monster in the backfield that is Gibbs and Montgomery. They played complimentary football. Ran the ball well. Set up the play action pass. Big play to Jamo. Highlight truck stick with great run after by Monty. Their secondary got tore up. They need to tighten that up. But lions are the team to beat in the NFC. They will prove it soon. When the play Minnesota. They also play Dallas coming up. That will show us a lot about the 🧬 ns right there

People always just skip right over the other roster moves the Rams made along side bringing in Stafford to win that SB. They signed OBJ, Von Miller, Weddle, and Sony Michel (they made varying contributions but they don't win without OBJ for sure) so I think they could've still won that SB with Goff and he definitely doesn't get enough respect

It was pretty close. They added pieces but lost pieces too. The major piece that rams team was missing during the super bowl run was a good run game. Goff would probably struggle throwing from the shotgun that much. They were out of balance that year and Stafford had to throw a ridiculous amount. Had to play some hero ball to win that thing. Goff is great through. He should win a superbowl with Detroit if he keeps playing well in the system.
