Thank you so much for having my brother on the show. He’s been one of my biggest role models and heroes my entire life. Love they touched on how far back Dad & Winston go with the Earnhardt’s around Concord/Kannapolis & the spelling of Kelley’s name. Jr. always has some of the best interviews, appreciation and insight to the history of NASCAR.
Great Interview, we are so lucky to have Winston Kelley involved in our sport. I can tell he really enjoys his work at whatever capacity he contributes. Thanks for having him on your show Dale.
The best compliment I can give to MRN is this. I had a friend who worked at a radio station that carried MRN broadcasts. He was no kind of race fan, had no interest at all. I remember him telling me in the early 2000’s the MRN broadcasts were of such high quality that he actually became interested in the races.
Winston Kelley, Eli Gold, Barney Hall all the original MRN announcers were my only way to follow Nascar back in the early days...loved listening to them bring the race to life! Thank you!
This is another example of a great person being humble. Winston is a great guy but so quick to give others the credit they deserve also. I really enjoyed this interview.
One of the best conversations/ interviews I've ever heard. I grew up in Oregon in the 70's- 80's. All we had were radios to listen to the races. Moved to New Hampshire in the 90's. Still just the radio. Loved all of MRN's coverage. They painted a picture so we'll. Awesome stuff.
I always listened to the races when I was a teenager on the radio. I don't have cable so I still listen on the radio. Most times when racing is on TV I turn the volume off and the radio on. 👍🏁🙏🙏
At the top of my favorite episode gift, just because he's the coolest man at my job😊 I truly turned into a fangirl the morning he told me he was coming on. I thoroughly enjoyed working the event with Dale and Kelley. The best part of the job, is being surrounded by the stars who makes this sport so freaking amazing!!
I say it every week, but these guest segments are goldmines. I’m a professor, and I’m looking to do some academic research projects on NASCAR. This type of long-form oral history storytelling is super valuable. Can’t thank Jr. and Dirty Mo enough!
Damn. You keep raising the bar. Just when I thought it couldn’t get much better after Gary Nelson, you get Winston Freaking Kelley. Hall of Famer in the car, Hall of Famer in the Media. Keep making America proud
Winston Kelley Pit Reporter For MRN Radio From The 80s And Early 90s 1988 To 1993 2nd Behind Jim Phillips NASCAR Winston Cup Series And Busch Grand National Series Thanks For Uploading
@DirtyMoMedia After moving from Charlotte back to Florida in late 80’s The @MotorRacingNetwork was the only way to get Live Racing. Great Video today Dale! A Winston Kelley interview is:“Food for your @Nascar Soul” 💯 🇺🇸☮️
I just got to visit the H.O.F. and JR Motorsports last week. The Hall was so much fun. I didn’t know Winston was running it. He was always such a great pit announcer.
1:27:50 Junior, you've won 2 Championships. Don't sell yourself short man. You are not only a 2 time Xfinity Champion, but a BACK TO BACK Champion, and that harder to accomplish than people think.
Always enjoyed WK’s work and I’m looking forward to this interview!!!!! I’d rather listen to racing stories about old nascar than watch a current race.
I feel bad that I only found out about MRN in my return to Nascar in 2021, so I missed the bmulk of Winston Kelley's broadcasting days. But I'm fortunate for the handful of times he comes on when they rotate the crew, and need extra people on deck when the 3 series go racing at different tracks during a weekend. The first time I heard Winston on pit road, my ears perked up - who is this guy? I just knew he was a man who is knowledgeable, articulate, and has a pleasant accent to boot.
I wear my scanner to listen to MRN when at the races. You get to hear the side banter, during commercial breaks, inside action and great coverage of the event!
Great interview Dale. Winston’s modesty is genuine, that’s the way he is, who he is and why it’s where he is. He’s provided us with many great interviews through the years. It was pleasure to hear Winston RESPONDING to (as opposed to asking) some good questions for a change, sharing his passion for the sport, and of course some great stories. I’m all for a “Part 2” and your asking the selection process. Enjoyed it! Rick L.
I really enjoyed this interview, I worked with Winston's dad Earl for many years and I loved hearing him tell stories about his early days in Nascar, Hearing Winston telling a story was like listening to his dad all over again. Mr Kelley was always a class act and its obvious that Winston is a chip off the old block.
One of the most enjoyable interviews I have seen in a long time, glad you got a chance to interview Winston what an icon in motorsports ! Thanks for a great download, surprised not more upvotes❤
Great interview. As a completely blind race fan, I exclusively listen to the motor racing network and performance racing network to know what is happening on the track. I remember the first race I ever heard, which was the Mrn classic races race, the Miller high Life 400 from 1986. From then on, I was hooked.
Used to listen to MRN Radio a lot if I didn't have TV or the race wasn't on regular TV. I remember hearing Winston a lot talking to the drivers, he knew how to get it straight from the horse's mouth. Him, Joe Moore and Barney Hall were right next to Bob Jenkins, Benny Parsons, and Ned Jarrett the voices of NASCAR.
Before I could afford a race scanner, I bought a cheap set of headphones with am/fm radio and would listen to the radio broadcast while at the race. Those guys are unbelievable with the play by play.
I had to fill out some contractor forms for Duke Power in early 90s. They let me use an office with the "Winston Kelley" I always wondered if it was this Winston Kelley, pretty neat.
I lived on mrn before TV and it appears with all the TV changes I will be going back to them . I know all the tracks and listening to them I can totally envision the races . They are amazing .
MRN Radio brought the races to life for me as a boy. Winston Kelley, Barney Hall, Jim Phillips, Eli Gold, and many others drew the picture for me when all I could do was imagine the hard-charging going on, on track…
U.S. 50 runs from Ocean City, Maryland to Sacramento, California. It runs right through the middle of my home state, West Virginia. There's some beautiful rural sections and some urban sections, and it definitely lives up to its name, The Loneliest Road in America.
I also from time to time watch the race, turn the volume down and listen to MRN. Always loved their Radio shows at different eating places during Speedweeks at Daytona.
I used to work shift work, Sunday races I be in bed a sleep due to working nights and I would have the radio ON listen to race trying to sleep, Winston Kelley and MRN radio would be sounding so good I jump up turn the tv on.
Omg love mrn radio legendary nascar radio for sure ❤ Mrn and nascar Sirius xm radio and tv all do good broadcast for nascar all 3 series trucks xfinity and cup series ❤
7:15 I hate to dash your hopes about finding that particular tape. I've used a magnetic eraser thousands of times to wipe clean a tape for re-use. It was very common to re-use the same tape over and over to record something new. With today's technology, hours of audio recording can be archived in pennies worth of storage space, as opposed to dollars back then. And those were pre-inflation dollars. Many recordings whose significance was not realized at the time were over-written.
Dirty Mo is kickin out some great interviews. Can you please? please get Tim Brewer on?? I know it would be a great interview because there’s no one Tim Brewer loves more than Tim Brewer!! Haha
Can't think of racing without having a memory of Winston's voice an I believe Chase Elliott is going to be in the hunt for the win at indy probably would have been this last weekend without the speeding penalty
Now with FS1 no longer broadcasting NASCAR Racehub we the fan base hear nothing about the races or the drivers anymore. Im sure I'm not the only one missing that . Surprised NBC didn't do something to fill that gap.
Dale jr on the Dale jr download let me say this inspires and reinforces my thoughts of writing articles about racing to fund my art, music, career. Which I want to make what I feel is cool and doesn’t adhere to no rules or regulations but out of basic human consideration saying something with out even saying it. With that. Man you done retired from the ole NBC broadcasting! Well hell Dale! Hah. I noticed you may have butted heads with a Rick Allen and perhaps might be why there was a Race last season you didn’t call out of blue and no reason was giving for why that was. Typical Nascar. Well You mentioned the effort and trying hard to makes good race calling. Does it? Rick may lack in a perceived type or level of passion you must certainly bring and believe in. But that is where you might have messed it. Ken squire’s broadcast where that because he had the knowledge and ability to lead and shape the show more than know racing. And what you seek is seeking you my friend. In that Rick Allen and Mike joy both will lead you and the others to a unique style and broadcast that isn’t going to sound like Ken Squire. It’ll be new and unique and buddy you do add tremendously to that. Alls you have to do is show up and give ur passion and analysts but leave the shaping and such of the overall thing to Rick. Kevin Harvick, all time favorite cup driver, and Bowyer do their part but Mike he is the Ken Squire, as is Rick. Lol maybe I’m wrong and there were no creative differences between you and Rick. He mentioned u helped design one the Alex bowman paint schemes because of the rocker panels painted or no it was lower panels anyways if they were painted you had a lot to do with it. Bruh Harvick killing it in the booth and handles Bowyer with the same finesse he did that 2020 Cup Car. And NBC feeling light but Burton has picked up on things that would be highlighted in Fox broadcast but doesn’t give that in-depth sitting in side the car ok this and that and if then X but Y does Race.
Been killing TV volume for many years and listen to MRN while watching. You know, because 99% of NBC, FOX, etc., announcers just plain suck. Mike Joy included (had to endure him for way too long; ever since he first started working at our local short track in Stafford Springs, CT in the 70's.) Let's not even waste time with Bowyer or Jeff Burton's nasal voice & ignorance. Who wouldn't want to return to the days of the legendary Ned Jarrett, Benny Parsons... all those guys who knew what they were talking about, and talked to you instead of 'at you'. Had high hopes for some knowledgable coverage with Dale, Jr. -- instead of being respected he was having to deal with lesser IQ's who consistently questioned him (and worse). Junior could have spent 50% of his time correcting his colleagues but took the high road and, I suppose, figured it wasn't worth it in the end. Glad Junior told NBC, etc., to stick it.
Thank you so much for having my brother on the show. He’s been one of my biggest role models and heroes my entire life. Love they touched on how far back Dad & Winston go with the Earnhardt’s around Concord/Kannapolis & the spelling of Kelley’s name.

You all must have a Great family.
Great Interview, we are so lucky to have Winston Kelley involved in our sport. I can tell he really enjoys his work at whatever capacity he contributes. Thanks for having him on your show Dale.
Yes always a good story and /or storyline narrator
MRN used to be the ONLY way to listen to NASCAR on a beer driven Sunday bbq
If they just let MRN announcers talk over the TV broadcast ratings would be through the roof.
I absolutely agree with you. MRN is really better than watching the race on TV.
I turn the volume on the TV and stream MRN on my phone.
Great idea! My uncle used to do the same thing watching the SF Giants games on mute, but turn on KNBR because the radio coverage was WAY better!
The TV announcing is unlistenable
The greats on tv through the years came from radio to start with. There didn't used to be a big difference.
The best compliment I can give to MRN is this. I had a friend who worked at a radio station that carried MRN broadcasts. He was no kind of race fan, had no interest at all. I remember him telling me in the early 2000’s the MRN broadcasts were of such high quality that he actually became interested in the races.

Winston Kelley was the voice for me growing up!
Barney hall and Eli gold
@@roberthood6253 yes sir! Those were our weekends. I felt like I was at every race and to keep a young boy occupied for hours days a lot!
I miss listenin to Ned

I’ve always said the best way to watch a race is on radio
Yes love MRN I can't listen to NBC coverage without Dale being there. I put MRN or PRN on the radio while watching the TV.
I think if Winston read a phonebook, I would listen to some of it. Great show!
I worked with Winston at MRN from time to time. Once was at Charlotte for the Open. He was very professional. Great guest!
MRN has never called a race at Charlotte. PRN calls those races.
Always loved Winston's voice .
I remember when he left mrn. It was a sad moment. Winston is so humble.
The radio broadcast without a television available could turn a rather dull race into an exciting affair
That’s the type of gloves he used and using when he races , I say logo stays
I also from time to time watch the race, turn the volume down and listen to MRN. Always loved their Radio shows at different eating places during Speedweeks at Daytona.
Great show. I wish Junior would have Elliott Sadler as a guest.
Very cool, and Smokey Belongs
Great interview

It could be the angle but the All Star trophy behind the guests could use a good wipe down and shine
Winston, Barney would be mighty proud of you.

Surprised NBC didn't do something to fill that gap.
A.L. Brown kicked my HS’s football team’s tail a couple of times in the State championship game.
How do I get one of those t shirts Jr?
Anyone know how to get MRN radio on my phone
SiriusXM app.
They play the MRN coverage on the NASCAR channel

Love ya Junior but you have got to stop picking your nose during your show. Think it's a nervous habit
I think Christopher Bell will win this weekend at Indianapolis motor speedway and that's not a prediction it's a spoiler believe that
Yep you thought he would win last week and you'll think he'll win next week too what a surprise
@@RUclipsAuditor1 yeah I know
Delusional
Time for a chevy to win and since Larson had bad luck there in May I say he wins the 400.
Christopher Bell wins at Indianapolis Motor Speedway! Holy cow! Conglaturation!
Get rid of the silly logo of skeleton hand holding microphone. It looks childish!
