- How to make a simple quilting design wall for your sewing room or studio. A design wall is a great way to plan your quilts and visualize how they will look. You can "audition" different fabrics for your sashing and borders and rearrange your quilt blocks any way you'd like.
You can make this design wall with some flannel fabric and a few things from the hardware store. You can make it any size you'd like. The Styrofoam comes 4' x 8' sheets and can be cut down to the size you want. (Danny cut mine down to size on his table saw. Gotta love a handy husband!)
This tutorial will show you the way to make a flannel fabric covered design wall. This works great when working on putting a quilt or quilt blocks together and you want to rearrange the blocks to make different designs.
This is what we use in our quilt shop, The Sewing Basket in Plymouth, WI. They work great.

if I have to put it up myself, I think I'll use velcro tape to hold it steady for me.... I'll mark where the studs are and velcro in other areas... that way the screws won't have to deal with it . :) thank you for making this video
The best video I have seen on making a design wall, very detailed - thank you

505 spray is temporary spray, how does this last to keep your flannel tight?
It is temporary. But, it stays until it is washed. Mine has been holding for a few years!

Was the flannel prewashed? Do you have to prewash?
We didn't because we made it here at the shop. If I was at home, yes I would prewash.
