  • When I first moved to Germany I thought it would be a good idea to learn the language.. little did I know the class would be taught entirely in German. Here's a 'lil animation about my experience at the school 0:

    Current number of "just say fester Freund/Kumpel/ein Freund von mir" comments: *284*
    EDIT (4 years later): i stopped counting these but theyre definitely in the thousands at this point LOL guys nobody talks like this 😭😭"kumpel"/"ein freund von mir" are definitely used but just "freund(in)" is still way more common, and legit NOBODY says "fester freund(in)" cause it sounds dumb as hell lmaooo (the most common replacement for boy/girlfriend i've heard is "partner") - either way none of this changes the fact that 99% of german speakers still frequently use the word "freund(in)" in both contexts and commenting telling one british guy to use a different word is probably not gonna change that they will continue to use it and continue to confuse non-native speakers and germans alike, any time soon :')

    That's pretty cool. I'm trying to get better at romanian as I live in America and my parents come from a Romanian speaking country, Moldova. It can get a bit nerve racking when I actually try to speak it with my family that is over there.

      @@InnocentPlayer Since you can't tell from the word directly you will need some more information. So If you want to tell that the Girl is a Friend you can use terms "eine Freundin". So you discribe her as one of your pool of Friends. If you want to tell that she is your Girlfriend you would use "meine Freundin"
      Hope with my Limited English this was understandable

    • @maciiiiiiiiiii
      @maciiiiiiiiiii 5 лет назад +39

      @@pred1312 it is weird indeed. we often only know the difference between a friend (freund) and boy/girlfriend (freund=male/freundin=female) on how you use the words in a sentense. :D for example if you would say in german:
      MEIN Freund/MEINE FREUNDIN....
      you would mean MY boy/girlfriend.
      if you say: EIN Freund/EINE Freundin...
      you would mean A Friend of mine. not always, but most of the time this can help you decide if someone means a relationship partner or just a friend. keep in mind that if someone male says: MEIN FREUND he will probably mean a friend of his unless he's gay....then he could mean his boyfriend as well😄
      i am hoping this makes more sense to you ^^
