Current number of "just say fester Freund/Kumpel/ein Freund von mir" comments: *284*
EDIT (4 years later): i stopped counting these but theyre definitely in the thousands at this point LOL guys nobody talks like this 😭😭"kumpel"/"ein freund von mir" are definitely used but just "freund(in)" is still way more common, and legit NOBODY says "fester freund(in)" cause it sounds dumb as hell lmaooo (the most common replacement for boy/girlfriend i've heard is "partner") - either way none of this changes the fact that 99% of german speakers still frequently use the word "freund(in)" in both contexts and commenting telling one british guy to use a different word is probably not gonna change that they will continue to use it and continue to confuse non-native speakers and germans alike, any time soon :')

"Learning a language with a different alphabet must be hard"
Yes, as someone who lives in Russia I can say that it is difficult. There are 33 letters in the Russian alphabet and 26 in English. But in Russian there are only three tenses. How many of them there are in English, I even dread to think about.
I don't even want to talk about learning Korean.

you would mean MY boy/girlfriend.
if you say: EIN Freund/EINE Freundin...
