I had a conversation with an ex drill sergeant one time randomly at a DMV and he told me a story about being overseas and coming home to his wife pregnant with his best friend. He wasn't sour. He moved on to have 3 kids with a new wife and was very happy. He inspires me.
Everytime we came back from a six month deployment, there would be at least one pregnant spouse that was less than six months pregnant. Conversely, a good chunk of the deployed indulged in extramarital affairs them selves. Humans get lonely. Humans are fallible.
I spent 15 years trying to drink the pain away. One night I put a pistol to my head. Pulled the trigger. It didn't go off. I woke to God's love. Found a psychiatrist and doing better. Suicide is a real thing. A note from a former marine. It gets better with help.

No i wouldn't, 4 years Navy 75-79 Aircraft Electrician A-7's, Lemoore, CA. Every 6 months a different cruise would start, so 2 squadrons would leave and be attachedto the ship as it went Wes-Pac. The crowd of women at the club(s), mostly the EM Club on base would change with amazingly similar timing of the squadrons that were leaving and those coming back from deployment... as Mickey Spillane would say, "Its a mystery to me"....

I never went on a (2-4 month) deployment, and came back, and did NOT hear of a man coming home to an empty house/apartment, wife having left them. Its never the dramatic confrontation like in the video. They just leave. Being Air Force, we deploy with more females the other branches. And no, I have never, ever heard of a female airman coming back to an empty house. No judgement, just an observation from my experience. 13 years active duty.

This song hits hard every time I hear it. After about 3-4 months of me being deployed to the desert, I found out my wife was 2 months pregnant. I was sent home early to handle the situation and when I finally got home I found that the other man had been living in my house and wearing my clothes the entire time I was gone.

There's nothing wrong with shedding a tear over a song like this. This song personally gets to me every single time I hear it. Another song that gets to me everytime I hear it is, my parents favorite song, and it is called "forever and ever amen" by Randy Travis. You might want to take a listen to it if you haven't already. I could tell the moment he opened the door that you related by the look on your face. It's a look of disappointment, sadness, frustration, anger and hurt...all together. I've seen this video a couple dozen times and I still tear up every time I watch it.

Being a military wife isn't for everyone. I was also military, so i understood "how it works" when my husband had to go for 2 weeks, or 6 months just to the field. The biggest test ( in my opinion ) is actual deployment. If you can make it through that you can make it through anything. My husband went and yes I was one of those praying two officers didn't visit or that the phone didn't ring. I barely left my house or socialized because I was afraid I would miss a phone call on the rare occasion he was able to. Out of three years stationed in Germany, I saw him a total of 6 months. When he finally came home he was covered in 8 months worth of mud and sand, but I almost knocked him over when I rushed him. That was when we were only 2 years in and we have been married 25 years. I never once remotely thought of seeing anyone else, but I have seen plenty of wives doing that. The wife of one of his closest friends actually told him she'd rather have had the SGLI ( life insurance) , so yea there are some pretty soul -less women out there. As I said, I think the fact that I also served, so I knew how the job works helped.
I also survived as an Army wife during deployment. I stayed home too, mostly because every other military wife that I knew was looking to go out and get strange and I just wanted to make me a better me for when my love came home. We celebrate 24 years together today and we finally started our family after he came home. Shout out to those who stay loyal!

I broke someone's heart, because I just didn't love him like he deserved to be loved. It killed me, I lost 15 lbs. in two weeks, and I was thin to begin with. A couple years later, it was my turn, and someone I really loved left and broke my heart. I really don't know which is worse. I feel so much empathy for both of the people in this song, it's so powerful.

25 year Navy. This is a truly emotional hit, performed beautifully. Like the other commentors, had seen several sailors betrayed by loved ones at home.
I wanted to be a naval officer. A health problem washed me out but many of my friends from HS and college went on to military careers. I've seen this happen too often to them. I'm a pastor now. I deal with the destruction that betrayal causes all too often. I still tear up each time I see this video. It brings memories of real people that I know.
I'm not american, nor I'm in the military; I don't listen to country music and I'm not even in a relationship; and still felt every single word.. jesus.. a very good one indeed.
I never married while in the Navy, but I remember one of my shipmates telling me that his wife asked for a divorce the minute he returned from a 6 month deployment. I now work in physical rehabilitation at a V.A. hospital. Years ago we got a guy who had been severely injured in Iraq by a roadside bomb, and his wife left him because she couldn't handle his disability.
This happened to me a few years ago. One of the hardest things I ever had to go through in my life. But I'm glad I'm still here to be a father to my children

I was in the VA psych ward after I came home, that's when my ex served me divorce papers. Military can be very hard on everyone.

When I came home, as I walked through the airport, I was spit on and called a baby killer. I never killed a baby. I served my country, and thought I should be be allowed to be proud of it. Thank you for offering me (at least, I hope you are) some dignity. I think I am right, because I’ve watched many of your previous posts. I’m a 70 year old white guy, that loves what you do. Being cheated on sucks.... The worst part about it, is that you never question why the other person did it, but instead you question why "I'm not good enough".
Being a military wife isn't for everyone. I was also military, so i understood "how it works" when my husband had to go for 2 weeks, or 6 months just to the field. The biggest test ( in my opinion ) is actual deployment. If you can make it through that you can make it through anything. My husband went and yes I was one of those praying two officers didn't visit or that the phone didn't ring. I barely left my house or socialized because I was afraid I would miss a phone call on the rare occasion he was able to. Out of three years stationed in Germany, I saw him a total of 6 months. When he finally came home he was covered in 8 months worth of mud and sand, but I almost knocked him over when I rushed him. That was when we were only 2 years in and we have been married 25 years. I never once remotely thought of seeing anyone else, but I have seen plenty of wives doing that. The wife of one of his closest friends actually told him she'd rather have had the SGLI ( life insurance) , so yea there are some pretty soul -less women out there. As I said, I think the fact that I also served, so I knew how the job works helped.
I also survived as an Army wife during deployment. I stayed home too, mostly because every other military wife that I knew was looking to go out and get strange and I just wanted to make me a better me for when my love came home. We celebrate 24 years together today and we finally started our family after he came home. Shout out to those who stay loyal!

I broke someone's heart, because I just didn't love him like he deserved to be loved. It killed me, I lost 15 lbs. in two weeks, and I was thin to begin with. A couple years later, it was my turn, and someone I really loved left and broke my heart. I really don't know which is worse. I feel so much empathy for both of the people in this song, it's so powerful.

25 year Navy. This is a truly emotional hit, performed beautifully. Like the other commentors, had seen several sailors betrayed by loved ones at home.
I wanted to be a naval officer. A health problem washed me out but many of my friends from HS and college went on to military careers. I've seen this happen too often to them. I'm a pastor now. I deal with the destruction that betrayal causes all too often. I still tear up each time I see this video. It brings memories of real people that I know.
I'm not american, nor I'm in the military; I don't listen to country music and I'm not even in a relationship; and still felt every single word.. jesus.. a very good one indeed.

I never married while in the Navy, but I remember one of my shipmates telling me that his wife asked for a divorce the minute he returned from a 6 month deployment. I now work in physical rehabilitation at a V.A. hospital. Years ago we got a guy who had been severely injured in Iraq by a roadside bomb, and his wife left him because she couldn't handle his disability.
