Learn the "Secret Plumber's Trick" to Unclog a Toilet

- You don’t have to admit it, but I bet ALL of us have been in a “situation” at some point that involved a clogged toilet, and probably a lot of embarrassment. Especially if it was somebody else’s toilet! Yikes!
Well, I am here to give you at least a little peace of mind in this area. I’m going tell you the secret to getting yourself out of a “messy” situation when a plunger isn’t at hand and you’re in crisis.
I picked up this simple 3-step method to unclog a toilet from a plumber who visited our house years ago. It’s ideal for emergencies, since it calls on supplies that are ubiquitous in most bathrooms. (And you don’t even need a plunger to do it!)
NOTE: THE TOILET FLAPPER IS THE RUBBER SEAL ON A CHAIN INSIDE THE TOILET TANK THAT ALLOWS THE WATER TO FLOW FROM THE TANK INTO THE TOILET BOWL. PRESSING IT CLOSED WILL IMMEDIATELY STOP THE WATER LEVEL FROM RISING AND POTENTIALLY OVERFLOWING.
You can also shut off the water supply to the toilet as an added safety measure. Look for a handle behind the toilet and close to the floor, and turn it clockwise to shut off the water.

This video is seven years old, but it helped me today. I’ve been plunging for a while with no success, so I came on RUclips to see what suggestions are there and I found this video.
Instead of counting three seconds while I squirted out the Dawn dish liquid, I unscrewed the top of the Dawn bottle and just let three big globs fall out into the toilet bowl. And then I went and filled up two big jugs of hot water from the tap. By the time I had finished dumping in the first jug of hot water, the clog had disappeared.

This actually works!!! I had a problem with my toilet and the plunger just did not work. So I looked on line and found your video. I did like you said except I did it twice and VIOLA my toilet flushed without backing up. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you for doing this video. Keep up the great work. Thank you! I had a horribly clogged toilet! Tried plunging for 2 hours. I had to take a break every so often because the smell was awful. I then tried a TON of baking soda, and the rest of my distilled vinegar. It fizzed, but didn't unclog it. I came across your video and poured a good amount of soap down the drain.. let it sit and added hot water. After some plunging and more hot water, the sweet sound of a draining toilet was tear inducing. Thank you! What a great plumbing secret!

I accidentally flushed a couple tampons down the toilet due to me being stupid and I clogged and I for the life of me couldn’t get it to unclog. Our toilet was just clogged. Use a plunger for more than 20 mins. No Luck. Google and saw your video. Try hot water and some dish detergent. Then use plunger 1 or 2 times. It's unclogged! It works! Thank you so much!

It worked! I let the dish detergent sit for 15 minutes, and constantly keep filling the toilet with hot water(not boiling) until the water flushed. 👏🏾😌

Finally when I was about to give up I used a double amount of water and the toilette drain beautifully ... it was like music to my ears ... after this I fushe the toilette and went again, you are both helpful and classy .... Google "toilet flapper" for a visual. It's the rubber thing on the end of the chain in the tank.
Or you can open the top of the toilet and look. It’s pretty self explanatory
I'm a pretty strong and capable guy and can usually unclog just about anything. This particular instance was beyond even what I could do with a plunger. I let hot water and dish soap sit in the bowl for about 30 minutes while I also had a call in to the plumber. Within 20 seconds of plunging the clog was gone and the plumber no longer needed. Thanks so much for the video!

Thank you, was plunging for over half an hour, the water was 3/4 or more full in my toilet bowl, I put some extra dish soap in and added hot water until it was about 2 inches below the rim and soft plunged for less than a minute and it cleared. Great advice
It works! I live only with my wife and I know I didn’t clog the bathroom and she didn’t because...she’s to cute to do such a thing;) this method kicked this mystery clog’s butt! Bit of dawn soap, teapot of boiling water, 30 minutes to sit and a pot of faucet hot water. It did what I couldn’t do in an hr with a plunger. Good luck to you all out there.

My toilet has been cloggy for 3 days, slowly drains as you flush. I didn't bother with the plunger, Googled and this video came up first AFTER I seen a guy on a site saying to use dish soap. I did use hot water from the shower head THEN I did use the dish soap, let it sit for about 20 minutes, flushed, the water rose, I thought oh sh*t then the toilet just sucked it all out! I boiled some water, poured it in, let it sit for 10 secs, then flushed and so far so good. Thanks lady! 🙃🙂

Last weekend, I let a few high school girls use one of my restrooms 🚽 because one of them was kind enough to return one of my phones.
As I was leaving my uber, my iPhone dropped on the pavement. Since they were so nice to return it, i asked them what i can do for them.
They said Wawa is closed to public and all they need is some ice and use restroom.
So I did what a grateful lady, wanted to return the favor.
Long story short, I came back from a short trip to Atlantic city and toilet 🚽 wasn’t flushing. I was literally using the plunger for 2 hours at 15 minute intervals. And I went on You tube, found this channel, listened to your tips and voila. It flushed itself. OMG 😆 so grateful! I subscribed right away, to return the favor!

U r a life n money saver. Saved me from embarresment of having to call my property manager to fix toliet n money from using a professional plumer. I used a medium pot filled with hot water 2 times n boiling water 1 time, so 3 times total. 1/4 cup of dish liquid. Let it set n toilet for about 10 mintues then said a prayer n plunged it. Oh my Gosh!! Jillee thank you for this! I tried the super hot water and dish detergent method and that finally put an end to a 48+ hour dilemma. I went to the store at 2am last night just to try Liquid Lightning and even that didn't work. I took a huge cooking pot from the kitchen and filled it with the hottest water (next to boiling) and after the third pot of water it finally flushed. You saved me from having to make a very humiliating (and very expensive) call to the Plumber.
Instead of getting your hand wet, just reach under the tank and close the water valve. This also shuts water off for the rim flush. I have used the dishwashing liquid trick many times. Sometimes it takes a lot more than 15 minutes for it to work.
Unfortunately not everyone has a shut off valve, & even when there is one, they're not all in the same place. So rather than searching, the flapper option is good to know.
That is a much better solution than that "flapper" crap!

@@traceycancio1795 of course it will still flush once, it's dropping all the water in the cistern, but the cistern won't fill again if the tap is off.
To see why you're wrong, turn off the valve and flush.
This worked!! My neighbors toilet was clogged, I used a pail of hot water from the shower with dish washing detergent pods...I place one pod in the toilet bowl and dissolve two pods into the pale with hot water. Poured the hot water into the toilet and it worked!!! Thanks for this amazing tip. Dishwashing pods are meant to dissolve food and grime so actually it’s better than liquid dishwashing soap.

I can't think of anything to comment so I'm just going to post a Blueberry pancake recipe.
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/4 teaspoons white sugar
1 egg
1 cup milk
1/2 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 cup frozen blueberries, thawed
1. In a large bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. In a small bowl, beat together egg and milk. Stir milk and egg into flour mixture. Mix in the butter and fold in the blueberries. Set aside for 1 hour.A
2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.
Well.... I have to admit.... the dishsoap and hot water really did work! I plunged for over an hour and got no results. Then I saw this video. I pour in some dish soap, let it have a minute to sink to the bottom, then poured in about 6 cups of piping hot tap water, let it sit for another 5 minutes or so, then plunged. Clog gone after 3 plunges. Thanks Jillee!

2:00 a.m. bottom of the ninth, my toilets loaded and at the crack of dawn I came across this video on RUclips on how to unglog your toilet. My house is full of heavy hitters tonight and I need all the help I can get, So I tried it, pour a half of cup of DAWN dish detergent about 12 quarts of HOT water, used a thick plugger effortlessly, less than a minute, Oh snap! I’ve been in that SHITuation. I converted the flapper into a CRAPPER. Then put a stick of Dynamite... But seriously, what DID work was to add 4 cups of HOT water then 5 squirts of dishwasher fluid. Let it sit for 10 minutes & slowly use a plunger, & flush. Make sure after you flush, hold the turn off valve so should it start to overflow you’re able to turn it off. Worked 6 out of 6 times.
Used combination of soap and hot water, and it worked. After I had tried a plunger for quite a while. Thanks for sharing the tips.

This totally worked after 30 minutes and 3 buckets of hot water spaced every 10 minutes! BTW, if you have old metal pipes (not PVC), the heat expands the metal too - maybe not enough to unclog by itself but it can't hurt!

We had a long-standing partial clog, and I had been trying to clear it with a plumber's snake. I decided to try dish soap plus the snake and the toilet cleared out perfectly after months of plunging every time we flushed. Thank you so much!
How to flush out the body is easy. Always keep about 3 bottles of refrigerated water in your refrigerator. Always drink refrigerated water day and night. As you do the refrigerated water will melt your hard dried up solid waste inside you and come out easily. The refrigerated water acts like a laxative and melts your hard solid waste. You will never buy laxative's ever again!!! You will love the new you!!!! Always drink the coldest bottle first, and rotate your bottles. What ever amount of refrigerated water you pour into your glass drink it right away. It's the refrigeration that makes it work so well 😊.
A traditional mop works amazing as a plunger. Put the mop at the bottom of the toilet, flush so there is water above it and use as a plunger. I figure this out as I had party at my house and I block toilet 20 minute before everyone was suppose to arrive and no plunger.

This absolutely works!!! After snaking my toilet and plunging it for about 2days without any results, I nearly gave up and called the plumber until I came across this video....My advice to anyone is avoid using the snake Cox I caused a lot of scratches in my toilet bowl trying to snake it..... This is how I did and hopefully it works for anyone that's facing the same scenario ....
I boiled a very hot water over the stove(Very very hot) about 1gallon and poured about 4oz of dish soap in the toilet first. I then poured the hot water into the toilet and top it off with more dish soap about 2oz...I then closed the toilet top and let it sit for about 2hours Cox I didn't wanna repeat the steps again. I came back and the water still hasn't drain down like I was expecting. I nearly gave up and something told me to try plunging it one more time and lord be whole after plunging for about 1minute.....Voalaa it drained down magically.....Thank you so much....It really work's!!!!!

Thank you so very much for giving me the confidence to tackle. I didn't think about using the flapper to keep "water" from overflowing, in case it didn't work. Dawn, hot water, and the fanned plunger saved me! I was having to go in bags. Talk about humbling...🙏🌹

OMG unbelievable is actually work with 1 try, I add dishwasher soap into toilet then boil a medium pot of hot water poor it in, Problem Solve. Thanks you very much
Letting the dish soap sit for about 15 minutes followed by almost boiling water has cleared many clogs I couldn't get with a plunger or auger even!

Jennifer Gwinn so glad it helped you out! It's my go to when there's a tough clog.. Now, if only I could figure out how to fish a toy out of a toilet without taking the thing apart! I've tried the soap method, an auger, and a plunger... No luck yet 😕

If you clog a toilet in public, as you see the water rising follow these exact steps.
1. Laugh
2. Quickly open the stall door.
3. Stand at the sink to verify that the toilet is flooding from you giant wooly mammoth sized log.
4. Laugh some more.
5. Leave the premises as fast as possible.
6. Share your story over a cup of General Foods International coffee with a loved one.
THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!!! I did dawn dish soap hot water...but it had to sit overnight to work.
All you have to do is wrap a bag around a mop and plung about 5 time to 7 times
