This study seems to couter this. Other studies, however, find contrasting results. These latter studies are examples of a broader literature that adopts the economic crisis argument to explain the sharp decline in fertility that Central and Eastern European countries have undergone after the fall of communism. Once again, however, the evidence is mixed. Kohler and Kohler (2002), using Russian data, find, for instance, a negative association between a drop in GDP and TFR at the macro-level, but this finding is not observed at the micro-level.

It's the opposite. Life expectancy at 65 is currently around 20 years. That's how long most retirees will receive benefits that the young will pay for. Which is what most of our budget has become.
Unless the retirement age is raised to somewhere around 70~75 at this point, no one in their 20s today will ever be able to retire at all (or at least receive benefits). Everyone will be a slave.

Collapsing fertility has ALWAYS been a risk to society because there aren’t enough workers to support the elderly and infirm. That’s the point of fertility rates needing to be high enough to replace the current population.

The reason the top ten happiest countries in the world are the top ten is because they have socialized those industries, because they have put price controls on essential goods and services etc. not everything should be strictly controlled by privatization. This is why healthcare prices have skyrocketed to unaffordable levels, why our food is poisoned. I’ve lived in Australia for a total of three years of my life and I can tell you with confidence that I was far happier living in a place like that than I am here. I want what Australia has for the United States. Im not alone in this regard. I don’t like that they have extremely strict gun laws, that was my biggest complaint about the way they do things. Other than that the country is outstanding and people there enjoy a much better quality of life than we do here in almost every aspect. But go ahead, continue to think of socializing key industries as a boogeyman concept, it will only hold your generation and subsequent generations back from enjoying a higher standard of living.

I have 2 kids. I already work 2 jobs, homeschool my kids, have a stay at home wife to make it possible. We cant afford a 3rd. 10 years and we have never gone on vacation. An old house that i over payed for needing a restoration, my own and my wife's happiness on the line. Ss is a joke, old folks voted in crap and now my gen is paying for it. Just saying, it seems to me that all taxes, despite being different forms or appearances, are ultimately income taxes. For example, sales tax is just another way of getting income. The taxes are all income taxes but try to disguise themselves by using a different name or appearance. The real question is how regressive the taxes are? The sales tax can be better understood as a regressive tax that is actually quite a large amount, almost 10 percent income tax on low incomes. The import tax is added to the cost of goods and services on top of thar, or is not made available in the country at all.

I disagree. Most people under 35 are not interested in a traditional lifestyle. We have families and friends beyond those that we spawned.

For example the cost of waist went way up and we are forced to pay with our property tax bill. They say it’s because we are working from home. But last time I checked I didn’t get a bigger garbage can.
Point being, by saying “it’s cause of billing fraud” you are giving corporation validation as to why they should jack prices. I always push back against price hikes. If more people thought the same, we would be in a better place, as a consumer.

I'm Gen X. Been aware that I might not be able to retire since Social Security will likely dry up while inflation continues for almost twenty years now. By the end of this video though, I had another realization: The government NEEDS my generation to work until we die and ALWAYS KNEW they would.

At least you potentially had a chance before the 2008 crash to secure yourself or attempt to start something. I'm only 26 an back in middle school I remember having financial conversations with my math class about the crash. What always stuck with me was how the teacher said it's going to suck growing up and how it would difficult to retire (if at all) or start a family. My grandparents had 7 children, and my grandfather supported them on a cleveland cop salary. My single mother raised me alone working 2-3 jobs. I work 2 jobs with no children and still struggle. Why would I wanna add another bill and job to my life?

I'm 34. I pay into my own Roth 401K. If you gave me the option to reduce my Social Security contributions to 1/4 the current rate to receive no SS benefits upon retirement, I'd take that deal. I do not expect to receive social security 31 years from now, anyway.

But right now even a super modest home in my area (where my decent paying job is) would be near 50% of my take home, with a good down payment. When my parents were young they bought a midsize home home for 5 at 15% of their monthly take home...from a single income (my dad). I am not poorly paid...prices have gotten out of hand. Im happy you pulled this off before it started this way. I could have, but i prioritized a graduate education. I feel even worse for those younger than me.

@longjohn8341 40k salary in 2024 with 4 kids is living in poverty whether you say "no" or not. Yearly rent is already over 1/4 of that salary. That doesn't include gas, groceries, utilities, medical expenses. Basic living necessities.

Most people recognize the problems. Ask any random person on the street who pays even the slightest attention and you’ll get similar answers. Not as deep and well spoken as this guy but absolutely most people get it. Just depends whether individuals actually care or even support that so much money goes to programs to support other than US citizens. The decision makers are just so far away from us in terms of worries, or just paid to do certain things and keep status quo going on and on. Tough for us.

The person that bought the home in 1980 would have paid over $400,000 in interest alone on a 30-year loan with the interest rate you listed. Also, the loan would have been paid off in 2010 if the loan was paid over the full term and not paid off early. How would the owner then refinance their home with a $400,000 loan?

My multimillionaire father in law has multiple private retirement accounts and 8 figures in liquid cash and receives FULL social security benefits.

Reading the title, it made me think is Social Security kind of like a pyramid scheme. You buy in and the only way you get your money back is other people buying in later to pay you.

I would love to know what they’re categorizing as infertility. It’s very simple. If most Americans don’t have $500 dollars in the bank for a rainy day how the hell are they supposed to have kids. This is an individualistic decision not to have children. I am female and I see no logical reason to have children, and yes I would have no problem affording children. I do not see a point as I would have to basically give up on my career to have children. I also love what I do and I would be extremely depressed if I would have to become a mother. Women are choosing not to have children, and you can blame women’s liberation and choice. Blame birth control. This isn’t a problem for the old people of this generation alone, this will be an issue for the next 200 years, and on. There are very few incentives to have children, you cannot force women to give birth.
It already is an issue. Look at the border crisis. Look at how awful wages are. Look at how companies like Tyson foods laid off American workers for illegals to pay below minimum wage.

In ten years (2034) the SS trust funds run out, meaning people will start getting 25% less. That amount also doesn't accommodate any pregnancy complications you may have to pay for prior to giving birth because I forgot about that fun possibility in those 9 months. I been working and saving my entire young age. I started working at 16. In my 20's I took whatever overtime I could and never did anything fun. No vacations, drank at home, never went out to eat. Hell, I did leave my state until 2 years ago. Now im in my mid 30's and all that saving hasn't helped me get a home. Home prices have soared so fast that my saving now is barrly a drop in the bucket. My wife now has given up on ever having kids cause she refuses to raise a child in apartments like she was. American dream feels dead to me and I dont see the point of trying anymore... They are asking too much of the youth. It’s ridiculous. We have to fix senior poverty, have more babies and expect nothing in return but debt and homelessness
I watched this entire video. I am absolutely AMAZED by congressman Schweikert. The people of Arizona have a warrior in Washington, who will fight for the economic future of all Americans. Together we CAN tackle this debt. We WILL vote for politicians willing to slash spending 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Let’s have the tough conversations to keep America healthy & vibrant
Absolutely! I wish more people could or would listen to him. We all know how hard it is to get out of debt, and it is never fun. However, when you make the cuts and get rid of the bloat, you will have more money in the end. We need to vote for individuals, not parties. Maybe then we could get back on track. 🙂
It's mathematically impossible to pay the debt back. We have no manufacturing base and won't have the reserve currency in 25 years (probably).
We don’t need to pay the debt back entirely. In fact, economically it’s ok to have a deficit. The government does need money for certain things. The problem is, at this current rate of spending we put our entire economic future in grave danger. We need to cut *drastically* to get back in sustainable numbers
