I recently got some nice pieces of plumbing for free and I didn't know what to do with them. Until I found that they may be good clamps, and because I'm in a lack of clamps anyway, it was worth a try. they are no particularly strong plamps but also really not the weakest. They operate very smoothly because of the fine threads but of course they are not the fastest.
Tools reqired to make them: Hacksaw, powerdrill, wood (jig)saw, file, rasp, hammer, chisel.

Cosmas, I loved your method of nut retaining, not quite what I was expecting from an engineer from Germany, it cracked me up - great stuff and a great idea. Thanks.

It's always fun and informative to see a good mind at work! Great design for all sorts of custom sizes, made at a reasonable price. Thanks for putting this out there.

Yesssss !!!! Thank you ! I just disassembled an inversion table I build 15 years ago and now I have lots of short pipes and was wondering what to do with all of them.... 'course I used the four long ones for long pipe clamps, but this is the best idea for the short pieces !!

Great job Cosmas. I don't know about the cost of pipe in other parts of the world but here in the U.S. the 3/4" pipe and the threaded rod would only cost around $15 per clamp. I'd also have the flexibility of making it any size I wanted and also out of any size pipe I wanted. Thanks for sharing your idea.

yeah tabbing with my little drill press would end in a real disaster :D I once worked on a like 1 ton drill press and it had a low speed and reverse feature for tabbing, that was cool.

    Oh, this is brilliant!
Hm, I wonder if this could be modified to clamp across a large area, say for laminating, by closing off the open ends and making a long rectangular clamp, with several threaded rods and pads along the length of the jaws.

Brilliant, Love the way you start the tape, and the way you handle a B.F.H. wunderbar. Thanks for saving me some dough! i'm going to use your idea.... To those that don't have this stuff laying around, If you are going to need to get your local machinist to mill your parts you might just want to order a C clamp.

That's got to be one of the easiest and most effective DIY clamp I've seen. Great job man! I will definitely be making some of my own... with a few modifications
mod 1 put a jam nut o.k. the bottom of the handle so that it can be undone or done quickly with a drill and socket
mod 2. add a pad to the clamping points
mod 3 make the moveable clamping able to free spin a little more so that it doesn't scar the wood being clamped.
    thoughts?
    thanks for the inspiration!!

Congratulations and thankyou for your idea!. I wish to make one . There are many countries in the world where this clamps are very expensive and the pipes are inexpensive. And the money, isn't important at all, the need itself, yes it is. I'll see your future new clamps! :)

Nice video. I have 1 thought about it to make it better. Glue a nut on the end of the handle so you can turn it with a cordless drill. It would make it a little faster when you have to close or open up the clamp a long distance.
