    As a long-time amateur card mechanic myself, for people who don't know, Richard Turner is considered the absolute cream of card mechanics. Experts Steve Forte and Jason England, extremely well respected and skilled in their own rights, look up to what Turner can do like a child does to an adult. Moves that many fantastic card mechanics can only do 1/20 times, e.g. the Perfect Table Faro Shuffle, Turner incorporates into the beginning of his routines, and does so flawlessly. His tactility is beyond that of any other card mechanic that has probably ever lived.

    Yes, he did mess up the false cut in the beginning of the video with the deuce, but even the greatest slip up once in a thousand times. He is in fact just a human. That being said, to me, the man is a legend and a great inspiration. Since I was a child I have loved cards and anything to do with them, rummy, poker, and especially magic. If I can one day do a quarter, with sight, of what he can do blind, I will be a happy man.

      You can believe it, he holds a fifth-degree black belt in Wado-Kai (or Wado-Ryu) karate and started doing karate AFTER going blind, which is friggin' amazing. This style of karate is particularly suited for blind people as it emphasizes on joint locks and throws, meaning that if a blind person was to get into contact with their opponent, they could crush him just as a non-blind person could.
      There's that one conversation at a tournament where he tells a guy he's blind. The guy then proceeds to say, "You're legally blind, how could you possibly fight?". Turner's answer simply was, "I don't know, find out!". The man is a badass from head to toe.

    • @rays5163
      @rays5163 4 года назад +25

      It’s just the brand of playing cards. Richard pretty much exclusively uses bicycle cards in a traditional cut. You would probably recognize them if you see them. They’re pretty common. The backs have the angel riding a bicycle. The bees have that argyle back. They’re actually both made by the USPCC so it’s really just a matter of preference but the card stocks are different. Even without being blind you can feel the difference but since he is blind he likes to keep it consistent. I’ve heard him say he goes so far as to not shake peoples hands since it will affect the moisture level in his hand. Sounds crazy, but USPCC actually uses him for quality control specifically because he can judge the moisture levels in the card stock better than their machines can

    • @maulcs
      @maulcs 3 года назад

      I think he has some kind of braille on the cards, and depending on whether he wants to keep the card to deal it to Tim, he deals seconds if necessary. By having a wild card in addition to the ace, it raises the chances he's going to run into one of them (to deal to Tim). Having the person give him a smaller stack and continually mix it maybe helps him do that as well, he has another chance for the right card to be on the top or something.
